Holmes Hobbies Crawlmaster Sport 550 12t & 15t test in the TRX4

Ойын-сауық

Out of these two, the 12t is by far my favorite, the 15t is too slow for me on 3s but would probably run great on 4s. The 15t seems to crawl a little bit smoother but I like some speed in my trucks.

    Nice job love your comparisons , true and clear ! I recently put a crawlmaster sport 550 10t in my gen8 , lost a tiny bit of wheel speed vs stock but gain lots of torque and speed control . Very happy with it ! Thanks to guys like you that help us make the right decision for our needs by putting it in motion ! 👍

    Low Budget RC stock 11t pinion. The “older” 3 slot motors have more low end torque according to Holmes, also the 3slot have a higher effective KV than the 5 slot ones do. The 5 slot are smoother but both are smooth enough I can’t really tell which ones are better.

    Not sure if you check these older vids but a question on these motors. Just getting into the hobby (built a TRX4 chassis kit) and some of the basics seem to not always apply. Stock comes with that 550 21T motor and what I've read basically is high turn = high torque and low turn = more speed. But here you are running a 12t motor that is slower than the stock 21t motor on the 3s...why is that?

  • @ExocagedRC

    @ExocagedRC

    The Crawlmaster motors have 5 slots on the armature. The other motors have 3 slots. Basically a 5 slot is slower than a 3slot and with that you can run lower turns and still have a smoother crawling motor.

    Spiffy_McAwesome it’s normal. At full turn the tires speed up and slow down twice per revolution. If you drive it slow enough you can see the tire do this. The trick it to only steer as much as you need and to try to never go full throttle at full lock. Most of the time they survive fine and most don’t even notice when driving.

  • @hinnmanfamily

    Use lexan paint on the outside, it is the same plastic as the inside. If you want to use non-lexan paint (as it offers more color choices) make a base coat of lexan paint or lexan clear on the outside first. You can then use regular paint on top of the lexan paint layer, and it will hold pretty well. I do this all the time.

  • @ExocagedRC

    Yeah and I’ve had an idea for a while. Paint the underside silver. Then paint the outside a nice opposing color of your choice. As it gets scratches they will be shiny when they are done but just paint those new scratches a rust color. That would give legit battle scars for the truck.

    @@addiemonsterrc3990 that's interesting. A friend accidentally used enamel paint once and it seemed to stick fine but wasn't flexible enough and flaked away at the places the body flexed, or so I thought until reading your response. Maybe the problem was that it didn't adhere well enough to deal with the flexing instead.

    I have the 15t on a 1080 in my Enduro kit. Beautiful combo, but too slow. I'll be ordering a 12t soon.

    @@BudgetRC_Channel it might not kill it if its considered too slow already. I think the 15 turn with a 14tooth might be worth trying, I'm going to. Edit* on a trx4 2 gear

    In a world of motors where u have enough torque to spin the tires in any situation lower your gearing to give it more pointless torque - every rc owner. Yeah i dont understand that idea
