@@NexusAuto I replaced the MAP with an aftermarket one and it actually ran worse. I decided to try and clean the existing one with MAF cleaner and it definitely ran better. I also discovered I had a bad upstream O2 sensor. Replaced it and the vehicle is back in good running condition.

Hello I have faulty air flow sensor and it caused hard shifting when you disconnect the sensor car keep running think that what caused the harsh shifting
@NexusAuto

I can't say for sure that is the cause for your hard shift, but a faulty MAF *could* cause a hard shift situation. So it may be the cause

I cleaned my throttle body with no change to the issues. It's eating gas really bad, stalling at stops, and misfiring.
What are the symptoms of a dirty mass air sensor ?
@NexusAuto
6 ай бұрын
There is a few, but other things can cause these issues too. If you have a scanner, there is a code specifically for MAFs. That'll tell you for sure. But even if you don't have a code, you can see. -rough rpm fluctuations, especially at idle -hesitation when accelerating -poor fuel economy and power delivery -in extreme cases, the vehicle may even shut off at idle -hard starts -fuel smell (from engine running too rich, too much fuel going into the engine)
Can I use that stuff to clean the map sensor
@NexusAuto
Жыл бұрын
Yes you can, as long as you are careful about where you're spraying it. But it can be used for sure
Does the battery need to be disconnected?
@NexusAuto
2 жыл бұрын
Officially, the battery should always be disconnected when working on electronics. Just for personal safety and circuit device protection. That being said, I have done these with the battery connected and it has been fine, but I'm cautious. If you do the same, you are taking risks
Just for anyone asking or curious 02-05 doesnt have MAF sensor
@NexusAuto
3 ай бұрын
Thank you for confirming! Funny enough, someone was JUST asking me about this and when i looked up some of my data and even some parts suppliers, they listed a MAF for 02-05 models. But I started to suspect this is not the case as I've seen a couple of people say they don't have one.
What made you Change out the MAF sensor ( Symptoms ) ? Was it throwing a Code , it is electrical ? Reason for the Question is I just changed the MAP sensor on my 05 envoy 4.2. it really ran rough to the point one day it wouldnt even stay running, code said MAP sensor. It did fix the Bog down and stays running , but on Stops etc. RPM wants to go High then back down etc. but no code. Im in Mn. so its a Bit Cold this year but i have not YET chased any Vacum leaks. but thought Id ask
@NexusAuto
2 жыл бұрын
I was getting no errors at all, and no codes. I made this video strictly to make the video for others to see. I didn't mind as I have never done it on this car, but there was nothing wrong operationally that led me to do this. You may need to do a throttle relearn. Disconnect the battery for a few hours then reconnect. Keep in mind, you will lose your settings on the stereo and things like that. Sometimes installing a new MAP/MAF/Throttle body causes the car to run odd until the relearn is done, or after driving for a few hundred miles.

Will it be better to just buy one .?
@NexusAuto

Depends. They can be fairly pricey, and I would say, from my experience, 8 times out of 10 a quick cleaning fixes any issues. But if it's in really bad condition or has a lot of build up, buying a new one is the better option

That's....weird. So there is nothing plugged into your air intake tube?
@chesleyserge1757

Thank you for responding. There is only the intake air temp sensor. I have watched videos others have made about cleaning their maf sensors, and where they show the sensors are, I have a flat spot on the intake tube.
@NexusAuto

@chesleyserge1757 ok, so I've been doing some research on this, as you got me really curious. I checked some of the guides and data I have, and it says MAF for 02-09. I also checked parts suppliers and they list MAF for 02-09. BUT...it looks like there is no MAF until 2006. Previous to that, these trucks used an Intake Air Temp and MAP sensors. So that explains why you don't have one. I'll have to update the description in this video. Funny thing is, I came across some people with pre-05 for had a MAF. So I've wondered if either 1. GM had these in some models, and not others or 2. These are not first owners of their respective trucks and the engine was replaced at some point for a newer engine with a MAF and the current owner is unaware. Either way, this was some interesting info. Thanks for asking the question! Hope this info helps you out too
What does it do??
@NexusAuto
5 ай бұрын
When you put your foot down on the accelerator, it actually doesn't put gas into the engine. It opens a metal flap on the inside of the throttle body (which is after the air filter) and allows a bunch of air to enter the engine. The Mass Air Flow sensor measure that amount of air coming in, and tell the computer, and then the computer figures out how much gas to put in to match the air, so it can combust inside the engine and give you power. If the sensor becomes dirty over time, it cannot properly tell the computer how much air is coming in. So you may get a loss of power, or poor fuel economy (or both).
Weird enough mine doesn't have that

Do you have the V8 model? If you have the inline 6, like this one, you definitely would. If you have the V8, there is on, but it is a whole housing, installed on the air duct hose, between the air filter and throttle body

@@NexusAuto I have an 04 trailblazer i6 😬 all it has is what I think is a temp sensor near the top part and that's it. I keep reading that they have some kind of manifold pressure sensor instead of an maf sensor
@NexusAuto
2 жыл бұрын
@@benjaminrivera117 Damn, you're right. I just pulled the spec and it looks like MAFs didn't come in until sometime mid 2005. I thought GM would have been using MAFs on these, since they had been using them for a while on other models. You do use a MAP sensor, which is on the other side of the engine. Learn something new every day. Thank you!

@@jaydadon4874 Hmmm. that's an interesting one. There could be so many causes. First, you need to determine if it's engine or transmission. When you are accelerating, does the engine RPMs go up? It can, depending if a dirty MAF is the cause of your light. It's worth a try. But after cleaning, you'll either need to clear the code with a scanner or go for a drive for a while and the car will sometimes clear the code itself if it no longer detects a fault
