How pathetic is it, that here in the US, there’s so many others in the same position as u? I went and looked into insurance that charges on a sliding scale. So it gets no cheaper than this. And it’s $4-500 a month. US is currently being laughed at by everyone else

At the BMW Performance Driving School I learned a vehicle literally follows your eyes, so this incident makes perfect sense. Free lesson: When attempting to avoid a collision ALWAYS look in the direction you want your vehicle go and steer accordingly. NEVER look at the object you’re attempting to avoid while trying to steer around it because YOU WILL hit it every time. We did exercises that prove it.

Matt, since you pull your share of Toyotas out it might be useful to know how their A-TRAC system works as it would have helped here. It's an ABS based traction control system that applies brakes to the tires that are spinning to transfer power through the open diffs to the tires with grip. The problem is, A-TRAC needs a little time to detect which tires are spinning and which aren't so it knows where to direct the power, and that means you have to stay on the gas for a few more seconds for it to do its thing. If you see the tires spinning and then quickly get off the gas or hit the brakes (as I saw in this vid) it'll never activate, and thus do nothing at all. The best thing to do is just keep medium throttle and wait for it do its thing. When it's working correctly it will pull the vehicle up a steep hill in 4 low even with two tires off the ground.

What I've done most my vehicles is I run a 12 Volt cable to the back and front with a quick connect for a jumper cables and then I can use the winch(with the receiver mount)from the rear or the front and can use jumper cables from the rear or the front.

@@gregparrott Any of the companies that supply jumper cable for tow trucks and roadside recovery equipment usually have the cable and quick connect plugs that are rated high enough for this type of amperage. I've never owned more than one 4 wheel drive at a time so I've always transferred the cables I have from the last vehicle to the next and I can't remember the company that I bought the quick connects from for jumper cables but they do sell them at Tractor Supply and NAPA auto parts.(stores in your area might differ) A lot of people call it welding cable. The quick connects are large rectangular thermal plastic polarized plugs in light blue or grey in color that can't be plugged in reverse polarity once assembled and are very rugged and safe. I've never had a failure yet.

@@blurglide its a safety thing; the manufacturer wants you to be pressing the brake when you let off the parking brake to ensure that the vehicle doesn't slide. it won't really let off the parking brake until you've pressed the brake first.

So cool how Matt and Rudy kind of instinctively know how to modulate their acceleration no matter what the surface or angle of incline. Where some of us would easily get stuck, they finesse their inputs and ease their way through, making it all look effortless. Dang them!!

And if he ran wires to the back for connectors he could use it from the rear hitch also. Even put plugs on the trailer winch to plug into the jeep to power it when he needed to instead of needing the portable power supply for it and remembering to recharge it.

@@grimsoul0 Agreed! Both on the Jeep front & rear as well as for use with the trailer winch... no more losing his portable power supply by leaving it on the trailer by mistake. (in a video a year or so ago?) Shortly after I bought a '99 Cherokee 8+ years ago, due to my admitted anti-social penchant for 4-wheeling alone I realized there were likely more times I'd need a rear winch than a front one, I added a front bumper with integral receiver and set up my winch to slide into either the front or receiver. Then to top it off, I installed 12V quick-connectors (front & rear... ran cables to rear bumper) so I could have the winch on and connected front or rear within minutes.

i really like that customer he seems cool and chill to hang out with wish more people were like him!

Don't know why anyone would give a thumbs down. The scenery alone is worth a thumbs up. Absolutely beautiful there.

The worst thing about that one was there was nothing to stop it if it did let go, the guy did well to get out when he did.

Used to work for seismic exploration companies. Getting stuck was part of the job on a daily basis was part of the job. You guys are good. As you said at the beginning of the video try to get the vehicle out with minimal effort and without damaging the vehicle. This guy was smart enough to call for help before he got into serious trouble.

This is quickly becoming my favorite channel. Simple no bullshit videos. What a great guy, too.

@@LuckyBaldwin777 the supply chain will be Canada/USA/Mexico/Japan. The engine facility should still be Kentucky unless that's been changed. Mexico recently passed a law that Auto workers have to be paid similar to what the other North American plants make so at least they'll be paid well and hopefully that increases the quality, not that the Taco had problems before.

Glad to see you using a winch... I do like the portable way you do it without a permanent mount because you can use it in the back as well... Consider running electrical lines to the front and rear where you can quickly connect the winch either to the front or rear.

That's how mines set up on my old 99 Cummins so I can kep the winch under my tool box an mount it front or rear if I need but also the same plug let's me use jumper cables front or rear, or run the winch on either of my trailers, an my buddy has a couple big work light that hook in to the same plug an a pretty decent sized air compressor that fill 2 40" tires at a time from around 10psi to about 35psi in around 5 mins or so (about as quick as my arb single does 1 tire an starts on my second)

Yeah, everytime I see those winching works... 🤦🏻‍♂️ As an electronic guy it would have drove me crazy already to carry starter boxes and screw terminals on the field on regular basis... You should wire the power back to the Jeep too, and mount a connector there too to power the winch at the rear when needed or possibly the trailer winch too. Aaaand don't forget the proper fuse at the battery side...

Always nice to see Ed, he just adds something no else can to the video. Another good save by the crew at MORR, looking forward to a great new year.

How bout next time you lock the rear dif? It's A TRD Offroad so when you are in 4 Low push the rear lock button to the left of the steering wheel. Lizzie was just spinning the RR the whole time LOL.

There wasn't even any brake light showing, close focus camera creates huge foreshortening, there was almost certainly a lot more clearance than it appeared

You are all a good group of people, but I especially like Ed. I could sit and talk with him for hours I am sure he has tons of great stories to tell. People like him are a resource that we do not use like we should in this country. He is a kind, polite, considerate gentleman.

I just love Ed, were a excavating and trucking company and have a guy just like Ed and his name is Harold. It made my day everyday when i got to work if he was there, so important to have people like that in our lives! 👀👍👍👍👍

@@greenlawnfarm5827 I had the 2nd gen....might be harder on fuel but more torque in low and mix range compared to the 3.5! My 13 was very reliable but not the best for towing...so I got a Tundra. It tows our RV much better.

The winch I have came with two HD cables, a long one for the back hitch and a short one for the front that you hard wire to the battery and have a quick release connector (female) on each and then another (male) on the winch. Straighten the wheels. Slowly back up and turn to head rear first down the gully until you are pointed straight up in the air and can only see sky in front of you. Now head straight up and onto the road.

I thought the same so I just looked it up. The Ford Ranger is the most American made pickup. But the Toyota Tundra is the most American made full size pickup. The Toyota Tacoma is just average.

I bought it when it had 35k miles from an estate sale, and the old girl is still running strong with the 2.5L engine and Ford tranny 5 speed copied from Mazda. My point is mainly that sacrificing the longevity and undisputed superior reliability of many “non-American” brands for the sake of buying “American” is complete nonsense. Historically, the Toyota’s and Honda’s for example have been far more ‘American’ than Ford, Chrysler, GM. Maybe not currently, with Toyota having just opened a Mexico plant; but that’s not my point. Sure, I know there are a few cars here and there that the American companies produce that are good; but when you buy a Toyota everyone knows that there’s a much better chance that you’re not going to have to dump another 35 thousand in 5 years when the truck is in the shop once a week. Nothing against people who do buy big three, I just personally won’t open up my wallet for the sake of remaining loyal to companies that build crappy cars.

I've driven one the last three years, from 100+ degrees to - 60 wind chill. Hydraulic clutch is a bit spongy that cold but once vehicle is warmed up it's fine. For the average driver aware of surroundings, you probably won't get stuck. For that type of off roading definitely need a winch and recovery gear. I have nothing but basic recovery gear, completely stock base model, 6 speed manual 4.0 4x4 with "all terrain" tires that are about as aggressive as warm butter. I've been lucky but never stuck.

@@garypowell4565 Matt has specifically answered this question. He said that up until recently, virtually NONE of his recoveries entailed using a winch. He also mentioned that the added weight substantially impaired his ability to travel travel the dunes at places like Sand Hollow (his most frequent calls are from there)

A lot of his calls are for sand hollow and he's stated before with sand you need to be as light as possible to get through it

That Toyota has a locking rear diff and A-trac system that uses the brakes to mimic a front locker. Might’ve helped to get it out easier 👍🏻

@@joshlower1 the A-Trac is an E-locker basically front and rear which can be used with read diff lock. It's actually pretty clever what Toyota did.

I'm just happy to see you've got beadlocks finally.
