My family has a lot of cats. Now. I guess I should clarify, *now*, but when we got our four cat/kitten, my dad was completely opposed, and didn't like or want to have anything to do with her. Cut to a few years later, and now she's 100% *his* cat, and she won't cuddle with anyone else nearly as hard as she doesn't with him.
Pro tip - make the drawer bottoms or shelves out of metal or have a metal sheet. Then people can magnetise the bases of their minis and they'll stick to the shelves/drawers for transport. This is common in the mini wargaming community for model transport.

yeah I don't see this as a transportation option much at all. honestly, I don't see much use for it but it's pretty and matches the dice tower. I don't have a screen, but I think the shelf one is a good idea, especially if you can make the shelves magnetized (even just a metal plate or thin shet) so that if you have magnetic minis they can stick on and not get tossed around all over the place on the inside when moving them around and risk getting damaged.

Came down to the comments to specifically mention this. That tower will be 100% worthless for transport if there is no way to keep the minis from moving around. I'm already skeptical about how usable it is for the bulk of encounters I personally run as its a lot of larger models or things with wings and weapons sticking out at weird angles. Even for most of the wizkids/pathfinder minis I'm not sure how great a magnet would be as you'd have to punch a hole straight through the bases to plant a magnet, otherwise you have the whole base resting on a little magnet. A magnetic plate would be great, but expensive. Then you could just put washers under the bases and it would at least be uniform.

@@timperkins4547 just use raised bases. I think the only other company I've seen that mirrors Wizkid's completely flat bases are Litko and the reaper minis that come with pre-attached bases. but the reaper ones it'd be easy enough to drill out a small indentation for a magnet or two because they're at least ~5-6mm in height. instead of magnetizing the plate, just use metal plates. I think the bigger thing that impacts this is that the storage space is probably too small to be particularly useful. they need an XL version, lol.

Think of what a DM needs to store. Then design something to carry that. They need Pencils, Pens, Dice, Initative tracking, Condition Markers. If a player wants to bring a mini they are not going to have a DM Screen they will have a hero vault. . if a DM shows up he needs Different supplies. A Magnatized pullout dish to hold extra beads for the paladin trackers you install on this would be an easy upgrade. Honestly when DM'ing the thing I am looking for more often than not that I have lost or forgot are my condition tracking markers to note a character is prone, on fire, poisoned etc. . . a way to get those with the DM screen is what you could have that they then place next to a mini on the battlemat!!

DMs bring minis too, just not all DMs & those that do bring them in bulk. That said, as the comments have amply pointed out, the current tower is not that useful for actually transporting minis due to the lack of padding/magnets to keep them from crashing around. Ironically, the tower would be better right now for transporting something like condition markers.
@fredmyers503

@@kgoblin5084 Yeah that is what I was pointing out. The tower would not do what a DM wants mini wise. . but engineer it to do what a DM would want in the screen!
One note. Add a leather strap to it like the tray/tower combo. You do NOT want that door coming off in a bag and throwing the minis everywhere.
Some dice storage in the tower would be cool. Kind of an all in one option for dice, minis, maybe pen/pencil slots? Competes with existing products, but I’m not putting painted minis in that without any proper padding, safety stuffs

Some metal inlays or magnets in the drawers or shelves would help hold minis in place during transport.
You guys are missing the boat on cat trees. Normally sonotube (concrete tubes) sections wrapped in carpet, make a tower with killer wood hex platforms with a carpet or fancier pad. Completely modular in height, number of platforms, platforms versus caves... food/water platform accessories, toy accessories. And then there's litter box possibilities.
Doug now has to get more work done on the cat coffins - he's gonna need one.
As someone who doesn’t magnetize my minis? This just seems like a product that will have a decent chance to break whatever is inside XD.
one other option that you might want to look at is, all my minis have magnets in the base to keep the safe during transport, so making a shelf with a magnetic sheet? so the minis be safer?

Just need some thin metal inserts for the shelves as an add on. Makes it easier to move minis with magnetic bases.
For the transport-storage idea, I don't think the solution can come from Wyrmwood; everyone's needs are too different. The Uber-Basic-Cheapo solution for everyone worried about damaged minis would be a sandwich bag filled with as many (or as few) cotton balls needed to insulate them during transport. When you get to wherever you're going to play, they can come out of the bags and be ready for use.
I see a severe lack of Jonny tooshie this episode.
1 week later, Doug: Maybe he's not so bad 3 weeks later, Doug: Yo my cats awesome! *shows him off to everyone* 3 months later, Doug: Wyrmwood cat bed, *claps hands* that's where the sch-moneys at *slams a table*
honestly prefer these over dice towers! i did like the dual use of the drawers as dice trays at the bottom of the dice tower though, one idea is to hold them in with magnets on the rear face that locks them into their closed position, but also doubles as a secure contact to the base of the dice tower?? also with the shelf option, if they were made out of some kind of metal, people can magentise their mini's bases which means they wont roll around in there during transport? PS my vote is for the name tower of holding, easy
Love this prototype! Wondering if it could somehow be designed to hold hero/TT Vaults to make it easier to safely transport minis
Okay that Heavyweights cutaway was fucking killer. Give that man a raise.
IDEA: Don’t put wings on the drawers. Make them fit the inner diameter of the tower and sit on the shelves. This will serve a couple of purposes: 1) Less space for minis/dice/whatever to shift during transport 2) Have the drawers usable as trays while gaming while simultaneously having shelving. BONUS IDEA: Put some whiteboard material on the inside of the door and it can be used as an initiative tracker.
Hands down the best tabletop role-playing game accessory woodworking vlog on KZread. Bar none.

would love to see acrylic or glass shelves. I think it would look super clean and makes it easier to find the minis especially on the bottom shelf. looks dope too!
It may be too narrow of a group, but a modular miniature painting thing would be cool. Something that could hold paints, brushes and whatnot. Something with drawers for grass tuffs and other extras.
Holy crap the Heavyweights reference. What a classic!
Crazy Ed may have caused me to cancel all orders - TAF?
I don’t put magnets in my minis like a lot of people in the comments have talked about, but I do have concerns about putting custom painted minis in this tower during transit. I like the idea of a chest of holding type product, but I want it to have some padding or compartments to protect the minis.
congrats on the new kitten
Tower of Holding is the best name, but I really like the Tower of Douchery. As a GM, you know that the moment you reach to open it, all your players are thinking it. Also, my wife and I are not BIG customers of yours, but we are repeat customers, and we'd generally opt to buy fewer nicer things from you than more items with cheaper, outsourced parts. There are lots of places to get nice gaming supplies, but Wyrmwood is where we look for gorgeous gaming supplies, especially in wood.
I don't think you should sacrifice quality for price point on the drawers. I think the shelf version that is compatible with drawers so that they are optional is the best option. The drawers may be expensive, but honestly all of your products are expensive. People are not buying them for their affordability, you could go get plastic storage from Target for 1/5 the price of a GM screen.
Figures come in all sizes so adjustability/inflexibility is a factor. For the stacked drawers being able to remove the bottoms might matter to make drawers for larger items. An alternative to slot-shelves could be a turnstile on a throughhole spindle, Clips let user position shelves anywhere along the spindle. Possibly with two openings front/back, lets DM reveal character minis dramatically. No shelf slotting needed, just through holes in the shelves for the spindle that can be done with 1 drill pass on a stack of *round* shelves. Alternatively door(s) are attached to the spindle directly for closing, so no extra magnet installation. For extra room instead of spindle through center of shelves , a bent spitrod type spindle down the "back" of shelves .
One of the best episodes, editing wise! I cracked up so hard at both the Snoop part and the Heavyweights moment!
The shelves look like they'd be VERY fussy but the drawer sets for the tower would be practical.
I love the drawers. Storage for init trackers, inspiration tokens, would never store regular minis in it.
A way to atach the cover tobtge back of the "towerkeep" would be nice Also a version with Crenelations on the top might be cool
Brother in-law was very adamant in ever getting a cat. However, his family ended up rescuing one a few years back and then he swore they would never get any more. So my sister rescued two kittens last month! The in-law warmed up to them within minutes. Grats on the new cat Doug!
the edits were on point for this episode. especially loved the "heavyweights" clip that you threw in there 😆😆
Love the bit of Archspire at 6:10 lol, whoever keeps throwing in that kind of stuff, keep doing what you're doing
7:02 Doug: Tres (correct) Everyone else: Treis (incorrect)
The tower door feels unnecessary for the majority. I bet a lot of people will use the tower as an open shelf and that door will just be stowed away somewhere I see very few people legit transportating the entire unit filled with minis.
I have never wanted a product more than that tower. It could be used for so many different purposes and looks so nice, 10/10.

It would be cool if there was options for steel trays so people who magnetize their bases can transport their minis safely. Or at least some foam inserts. As it stands right now I wouldn’t move my minis in that, I’m afraid they would move around and break
I just really want the rolling tower and tower of holding to have crenelations on the top like an castle wall.
Tower of Holding: “Storage for not poor people.”
Congrats Doug. Now you have a test pet for cat centric products. And you will learn the joys of being a cat dad.
Congrats on the new cat, Doug! Also, if you're going with the drawer design, I think you could minimize SKUs by getting rid of the facing panels attached to the drawers, so you could use the large cutout panels with either the drawers or the shelves which would also help maintain grain matching.

Good idea. This would likely also mitigate the issue of the drawers colliding with the new decorative overlaps on the corners.
To be honest: Metal floors in the Tower .. so you can have magnet bases on the Minis for transport
As someone who also plays warhammer so transport dozens of miniature at a time, I would love a way to have the trays magnetic. That way I can put small magnets on the bottom of my minis and put them on the shelves and not worry about tgem flying around and breaking in transit. I understand that the idea is to load them at the table, but if you travel as the dm that means you have to have another storage container to put it in and then move it to this.
As others have said - worried about the minis rattling around if you were to transport it
1.) Metal shelves. Should be easy to manufacture quickly, and they would let people magnitizer their mini's so they are WAY less likely to get bumped, banged, or jostled. Not only that but it means you can store minis on the UNDERside of the shelf, which is great for efficient space use. 2.) Removeable shelves are necessary, gonna need the space for those large/huge minis. might be nice if, say, there was a cut out in the bottom you could stack shelves in when they were out so you don't lose track of them. Bonus, if the shelves are metal you could magnet them in. 3.) Keep the cover, add drawers as basically just the base piece (rather than the face plate) and cut a handle (or just a pull hole) in it for easy removal. Still works as a dice tray (hole side against the dice tower), is covered by the removeable door so you don't have to worry about grain matching it, still conveniently removeable, and you can toss extra dice, or better yet TOKENS in there. Or hell, if you are a GM that uses metal coins metal coins. The drawers could be bought one at a time to cut down on sticker shock.
I’d recommend keeping the logo high to match the logo with the dice tower on both sides, especially if you want to advertise it to display monsters to the players
100% the shelves should be milled to fit in a magnet rubber sheet if these are meant to carry minis and not just storage at home
Yeah, this is just for in-game mini storage. I can't see this being used as a travel tower. Maybe if it had some way to secure the minis to the shelves or prevent them from rattling around. Also, if this was part of the Kick Starter, I'd have been on it.
Looks like wyrmwood will make a cat bed now too
What I really want is a hexagonal dice tower (to match the hexagonal party trays) that only spits dice out in one direction
Love the Storage Tower. would also love a long term storage solution. Storage tower feels like a short term solution for like a single session.
To be fair to Ed, I get it, I've two cats and I get it. I do love the shelving idea, could be extra handy putting that on the player facing side to save space: you could put dice, tokens and all sorts in those for ease of access...

make the shelf metal so ppl with magnetic minis wont half to worry about there minis moving around
Not in the market for one of these, but the shelves should be metal, so that magnetic miniature bases stick to it. That way your miniatures don't get banged up while transporting.
O.O How can you just think to shoot a kitten Ed ????! [ mind you I have been working with at rescues for over half of my life so 15-16 years]
I'm surprised you didn't do a hybrid approach with 1 drawer and the rest status quo... That way you could use the drawer for the dice tower, or 'secret' minis/whatnot, still get the functionality of the rolling tray, and get best of both worlds.
I really like the storage box design. One note, it would be fantastic if you also offered the internal shelves with a thin sheet of metal on top to allow people to magnetize the base of their models and make them more secure in transport
@dc345601
Жыл бұрын
Yeah, that’s a good idea. I would not travel with them in that tower. It’s already going to be a massive pain to get them out as it is. That way the magnets hold them in place like a drawer and you can get a little more headroom I there with the thin metal sheets.
With the chamfers at the corners you will have to make 3 versions of the drawers instead of just a single style. Seems less efficient & more costly, you might want to just take the hit on style and go with the original door design. I would just add a WW crest above the door for style points.
Drawers that double as rolling trays for the dice tower would be a awesome option. 2 towers and 3 panels with a tablet tray, 2 rolling tray/drawers, and likely some acrylic panels. Shipping to NZ is going to hurt.
The tower looks really cool, but if those shelves don't have a ferrous layer it's not storage, it's a rock tumbler
Call it the Fortress. Enough room to fit an army.
How about a metal plate on the drawers/shelves, then you can add a small magnet on the bottom of your Minis to secure them in place.
would honestky love a metal option for shelf so magnetized minis can travel
Looks Great........But A magnetic shelf option would be amazing. i store my miniatures on steel plates and they all have a magnet in the base (i am pretty sure this is a common way to store). it would make it much more portable without worrying about the miniatures clanking around in transport. EDIT: just saw everyone else comment the same thing. have a good day.
Tower of Holding is already the perfect name, you already nailed it
Those minis are gonna fly all over on the inside of that tower.
"Trez" (written "treize") is 13 in french... no idea if Doug has any notion of french or if he was just hiding his mistake in spanish :)
Cosmic Justice Doug now HAS to make Wyrmwood cat beds!! #WrymwoodCatBeds 😈😈😈
Crazy Ed, you sure are good at your job. That looks great!
Adding sliding drawers to that configuration might be difficult for the top and bottom shelves. The chamfers may impede smooth drawer operation. Unless the drawers have their own slides and will be used without placing shelves in there… but then it won’t be as modular because the drawer faces for the top and bottom shelves will be different. Just my first thoughts. And I’d think a hex (vs an octagon) would be cool for mini vaults and modular game tiles.
You do know that you already have a hexagonal storage device with your Modular Tile Rack for the Hexagonal Gaming System... you KNOW that, don't you? Don't you? Why are you not proposing using THAT with stacking storage chests that are hexagonal, and match the size of the HGS?
Minis Tirith. The Dank Tower. Octo-Pods. I could go on but I couldn't because I ran out of puns.
Loved those hex dice drawers. Need more of them
So far I'm really liking the form factor of the tower with the big door with cut corners. It's attractive. Allot of people are saying the shelves should have sheet metal or something to stick magnetized items securely to them. Makes sense to me. Alternatively if people are worried about mini's moving around and breaking then the whole tower could instead be converted into a minivault vault. Just a big container to stack them in and keep them in one place. But what I think I'd most like to see is the shelves instead of being in cut out slots being on adjustable rails so they can be positioned as needed. As for some more wacky alternatives. If you had a small one panel door on the back of it and a turnable dividing wall int he middle of it then a DM could secretly place stuff into it and reveal them to the table through the open front. That could be fun.
This seems like it could interact with the hex tiles ... maybe the wrong size? but yeah: magnetic minis and metal shelves is kinda a no-brainer as an option.
Should add a logo to the shelves so they can double as coasters to protect your Wyrmwood Game table 👀
Now we are going to get the Wyrmwood catbox we all have been waiting on!!!
Doug pronunciation of "tres" was more accurate (although still not correct )
Thumbs up just for the Heavyweights clip! Absolutely an underappreciated movie
Make foam inserts for the shelves. It's inexpensive and provides protection to loose items if you want to use the tower to transport things. Alternately you could design hero vaults that fit in each slot, but the price would obviously be much higher. Alternately alternately make the shelves match the height of existing hero vaults for people who already own them.
i would like to be able to have little shelf drawers like shown that are used as rolling trays for the dice tower, it's basically the ultimate combo to sell tower and shelf of holding. and maybe a metal sheet to insert in the shelf drawers (as optional buy, so people can put those metal sheets just inside the wooden tray shelfs in case the minis bases have magnetic bases). awesome
You shouldn't have tempted the universe Doug, insulting Cats on a platform as wide as this? Now you shall be shown the error of your ways, enjoy the kitty litter.
Combine Storage tower 2 and 3/4. To combat woodgrain matching you can remove the face of the cabinate/tower and just have the drawer as an insert that will fit on the existing shelves. No one would be required to purchase them unless they absolutely wanted to. Can still outsource them to provide a resonable price point, just drop a notch on the front/back of the drawer to allow easy access once inside. This way they can all be made the same way on the CNC/Whatever but provide that next level option?

Call it the Tower of Holding. Since the Bag of Holding is a D&D item?
If you do drawers and make it so people can buy any number of them, you need to sell different doors to accommodate the drawers. Make the top or bottom a drawer or have the top pop open for dice storage.
Tower of Organization? Tower of Sorting? It's highly impractical for on the go storage of most things, but as a way to group minis by encounter, hold your tokens, etc while keeping the aesthetic it seems decent, particularly with interchangeable drawers and shelves. If you are travelling a lot to your games with a bunch of minis you probably want light and safe carrying cases over wooden shelving anyways. If you are DMing games from your home it could probably be used to transport stuff from workshop to game table or the like, or as a display area for your favorite minis and dice in between sessions. It would be funny to just stick dragon minis and the like on the top turret during games just to make the players wonder if you are planning on bringing it out or not. ;) But yeah, vertical storage is a nice thing for in game table space.
Joking about harming animals isn’t funny in any context. If Ed was being serious, that’s horrific and shameful. You don’t need to like cats (or any animal), but it doesn’t make violence acceptable. *steps off soapbox* Regarding the mini tower, I think it adds some needed symmetry to complement the dice tower. I like what everyone’s saying about a magplate to keep them form rattling because as great as it is to store them during a game, it doesn’t seem like a safe mode of transportation for minis that are more fragile.
Man it would be great if the top section had a compartment with a lid on top. Nice little dice or padded mini storage up top.
I love the tower design! I think it would he really cool if there was an option to have the top have groves so it looks like a castle tower!
The storage tower seems pretty nice :D
