His boy's no slouch either, given the quality of the paint (way too much chrome for my taste, but hey, it's not my truck & the orange is perfect) job and the fact that he had no problem changing out the heads on a KT450 Cummins.

It is a beautiful truck, his son did an awesome job on it. Not only is the truck super cool but you wisely pulled back with the camera showing the two ten year old boys looking at the awesome truck, great job on recording. It makes you wish for these trucks on the road again, like the 1980's. He and his son should put their signature in the truck so the grandkids can see it.

I drove a '71 single-axle K100 a couple hundred thousand miles hauling overdimensional boats in the late '70s. Mine was a short wheelbase (originally pulled doubles), but the cab was identical to this one. Thanks for the video -- brought back great memories, even though I ran 46 states and went north in the winter when others wouldn't.

Goes to show even an old truck can get nearly the same MPG as today's new trucks. Not so much how its designed, it's the power plant and drive train that makes all the difference. That's awsome. Can definitley tell loosing his wife still eats at him when he talks about it. I know exactly how he feel's when getting the word prognosis.

@e020443

It's a 22-inch wheel, which is what you needed in those days for armstrong (not power) steering. The steering on my K100 was very solid, but you did need to work some spotting the trailer or parking in some of the truckstops. Remember Union 76 and Bingo?

I got my CDL in a '77 K-100, thirty years ago. Now I run around in an '07 T-800, which I want to re-body as a car when it pays for its own retirement. That would be the world's second CAT powered car. I didn't know about the Caterpillar Buggy when I first thought of doing that. The body style goal is to look something like a '35 Packard coupe with a Kenworth Shovelnose style hood and grill.

Gorgeous Restoration... Hmmmm, "center point" steering and the narrow sleeper, Not most truckers "favorite" by any means, but I guess he likes it... he didn't change it (the steering axle) and that's all that matters. With the way it's set-up with originally a single driver, center point steering and the narrow sleeper berth, my guess is, that he was pulling short doubles ("wiggle wagons") with it for some LTL outfit, or inter-warehouse grocery chain and stayed fairly close (within 500/600 miles or so) to home... definitely Not set up for long haul OTR (Over The Road) trucking. The orange and chrome is a great combination... good camera work, thanks for sharing it.
