Hi, I'm glad you enjoyed it, Northern Spain is one of Europe's best kept secrets, so beautiful and unspoiled by mass tourism.

Excellent CabRide video! Beautiful HD quality, solid camera mounting, and no music or other distractions from the experience of riding a train! I'm a big fan of carbides in 1-Japan, 2- Vietnam, 3- Switzerland, 4- UK (London area), and now, Northern Spain!) Maybe someday, there will be quality carbide videos of Amtrak in my native USA , but meanwhile, videos like this one keep me happy.. POST SCRIPT: After this message failed to post the first time, I returned to the video and found (around 19.00), a music soundtrack.. please, say it isn't so.. it was so good until this :-(

I agree, beautiful video but in my opinion music soundtracks take away from the true experience. I wish there was a way for users to toggle music on or off.

Just got to see this video, amazing straight a ways and fast curves! I traveled in the same area by car, never got to see the area by train. The mountains are amazing and the fishing in the streams is pretty amazing. I like the video, nice job!(I think there is a "flat" wheel on that front set!).

+Peter M Hi Peter, it's a beautiful, unspoilt place, I particularly liked Llanes, lovely people, great food and inexpensive. There is a hint of a wheel flat, once or twice the unit was required to stop quickly, but generally the train and the track was very well maintained.

A fantastic 4 part series thanks tim,Northern spain looks like a nice place to visit cheer's robert.

I placed a small camera in front of the train and left it running, whilst I traveled in the passenger compartment, then I retrieved the camera at the end of the journey. By doing this I was able to obtain the film without disturbing the driver whilst he was driving. Most railways do not allow the driver to be distracted whilst driving, hence they do not allow members of the public in the cab whilst the train is moving.

Wow, that's a lot of Ancestry, Northern Spain is quite different from the South, it is lush, fertile and very scenic and to my surprise most of the people I met spoke Portuguese.

The FEVE line goes all the way to Ferrol. Ferrocarriles de Vía Estrecha (Narrow-gauge railways). I think it is now the metre gauge as opposed to RENFE (Spain´s National Railway) which has the 1 vara gauge (1067 mm). The line along the northern coast of Spain has spectacular scenery.

Hi, I knew very little about Northern Spain until I visited. I was pleasantly surprised by the beautiful scenery, unspoiled villages, friendly people, wonderful coastline and the FEVE railways. I have read about the FEVE railways since my visit and realize there is a lot more to see, so I will return when time allows to enjoy more of this fascinating part of Spain....Tim.

Hi PhII RP. Sorry to correct you, but Renfe gauge is 1668 mm or 6 Castilian feet (2 Castilian yards or "varas").

Of course it is 2 varas, I had forgotten as the vara is no longer in official use.Both Renfe and Portuguese railways have the same width hence the Iberian gauge. Thanks Julian.

Hi Tim, This is exactly the trip I want to make in July this year but I can't find any information on the Feve system The Renfe company that now run it has their web sight unavailable in Australia (so far). Can you tell me where you got your info from?

www.virail.com/train-oviedo-santander - I took a look at the internet and found this site. Llanes is a great place to spend a day or two itchyfeet2012.blogspot.co.uk/2013/09/asturias-llanes.html. There are only two trains a day making the full journey between Santandar and Oviedo. The train is pretty slow giving plenty of time to enjoy the outstanding scenery. I hope everything goes well and you leave Northern Spain with many fantastic memories. LLanes is not pronounced lanes, but yanis, I turned up at Santandar station and asked for two tickets to lanes, eventually one of the staff realized I really meant Yanis.

Dear Sir, this tho being so much just my curiosity & I believe it can be safe enuf to assume this train set IS by no means any of those.. antiquated 'Walschaert crank-driven coal+steam powered tractor unit, but why do we constantly hear "clanking" sounds what's usually associated with those ancient crank-driven Loco(motive)-s ?

Hi, this was filmed from an aging diesel multiple unit that was doing its best to sound like a steam locomotive. I think the noise you are referring to could be the result of a wheel flat, caused when the wheel locks up when braking heavily.

Hi, this is Northern Spain, it is nothing like the Southern Spanish Costas most people associate with the country. Northern Spain is very picturesque, not spoiled by mass tourism. The train I filmed from was a diesel multiple unit.

madridexiste The FEVE do an excellent job maintaining the track, trains and stations to a high standard. It was a real pleasure to meet the friendly staff and travel along this line. I look forward to visiting this wonderful part of Northern Spain again.

si yo soy maquinista de cercanías FEVE ( ferrocarriles españoles de vía estrecha ) y creme feve si se a preocupado,y la catenaria es mio veces mejor que la de renfe

Mucho más me gustaría si tuviera mapas para saber donde estamos. Yo desde Brasil tuve que consultar un atlas, para ubicarme. Sería mejor si lo tuviera el vídeo.

Don't like the music playing during the trip. I put on an audio book with headphones and watch the train journey. I like to hear the clickety clack of the trains just below the volume of my book.

I prefer the original sound where ever possible, sometimes it is not possible without broadcasting private and personal conversations. I try hard to include as much of the original sound as possible in my later videos.

The driver and his mate were chatting for most of the journey, my Spanish is not good, so I had no idea what they were saying and as they had been so nice to me, I didn't want cause any embarrassment, hence the music. I remove the speech in my later videos, but I didn't know how to do that back in 2103.

Cheers, I do listen to feedback and where reasonably possible I act on it, you will notice I use far less music in recent videos.
