    NIO's battery swap will be the future standard

    also environmentally makes sense if every one wanted an EV there will not be enough resources and cost would go up and cars would be to expensive and stiffle growth something like that

    Swapable battery will allow cars to function longer meaning stay on the road instead of fix battery that's what I worry about my EV I paid 100k for my BMW and I hope I get to keep it for 10 years and even if I do how much will get for it

    Every battery is a potential car sold for NIO. I don’t believe in battery swap 😅 and people will never look after things that are ‘loan’. More will abuse the swapped battery.

    @@ShirtPapa fast charging car batteries just degrades the battery just like your mobile phone. Eventually the battery degrades so much, the car loses its value if you can’t swap out the battery. Replacing the batteries is tedious and expensive. Battery swapping centralizes battery management, so health is always maintained by the company, and in theory your EV could last forever. Plus, you can always swap out different battery sizes. If you needed to make a 1000km journey, you could just swap out to a larger battery for a day or two, which is much more cost effective than buying a permanent 1000km range battery that you’ll only use once in a while (plus it degrades over time). Swapping also makes upgrades easy and feasible, like if they came up with a new version of a battery that was more efficient for example. Swapping takes 3 mins, and is completely autonomous. You can drive up to a swap station, get out and get a coffee, it will park itself in the swapping bay, and by the time you get back with your coffee, you’ll be ready to go. For charging, you need to park, get out of the car, plug in the charger, and still wait at least another 20-30 mins and you still won’t have a full battery. Imagine on a crowded day where all chargers are used up, how long would you have to wait? This happens often in China during the Chinese new year. Autonomous swapping would also pave the way for a robo-taxi ecosystem where cars car drive itself, and swap out the batteries themselves. You can’t do that with charging (remember the awkward arm charger). NIO also comes with fast charging, not just battery swapping. So why would anyone not want 2 options (swapping and charging) over having only 1 (charging).

    Also not to ignore that these power swap stations help balance the grid I believe the CEO of Nio said that a swap station in Denmark is earning 200k euros a year from grid balancing. This will be important for a use case for these station

    Can these stations detect a bad battery? Like say the battery isn't charging at full capacity or is damaged. Will it still try to pop it on to an unsuspecting driver?

    Yes. I read that the battery stations are so sophisticated they not only identify which batteries are bad, they can pinpoint which cell within the battery unit would need to be replaced. Very sophisticated swap stations & equally sophisticated batteries

    Battery Swap is not a technology but rather a method of convenience. I don’t see anything that help NIO to scale fast in production as more than 30% of the batteries they purchase will have to go to the battery swap stations as back up batteries and assuming the owners change every 3 days. Stupid method when you can just set up their own charging Kiosk and sell some things like drinks and snacks or some place to rest like traditional petrol kiosk.

    You clearly don't see the potential for battery swap, and that's ok. I see someone gave you one good example, but let me give you one other real world example: In New York City, currently, they are trying to fill the streets with charging stations. There is simply not enough practical real estate in the city to go around, in fact, the EV's that are owned by the city of New York are the ones using many of these charging stations, and a lot of these vehicles sit there for days, parked at the stations , while other cars could have been charging. Battery swapping means you need far less real estate AND you don't have to worry that cars will be blocking other people from charging. There are many more examples of benefit that I can give you.

  • @gustavo-1972

    @gustavo-1972

    Ай бұрын

    @@michaeldileo8815that is correct and the real estate needed is 61 square meters. Any city, public parking lot and office complexes and plazas with parking lots can sacrifice 61 sqm of parking for a battery swap station instead of flooding parking spacws with chargers that take hours to fill up one car.
