Tour and Explore the Cotswold Villages of Bourton-on-the-Water and the Slaughters, Gloucestershire

Explore the Cotswold Villages of Bourton-on-the-Water, Lower Slaughter and Upper Slaughter.
The Cotswolds is considered one of the most beautiful areas of the UK with numerous picturesque honey coloured stone villages nestling in river valleys set amongst the green rolling hills. It is indeed a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Humans have inhabited the Cotswolds for around 6,000 years and evidence of their existence here survives close to Bourton-on-the-Water at Salmonsbury Camp, as well as elsewhere in the Cotswolds. Yet few people visit this hidden gem at Greystones Farm Nature Reserve to get the sense of history and wonderment because they enjoy the attractions of the bustling village centre of nearby Bourton-on-the-Water. I hope this virtual tour of the area will reveal more than you expect.
We also visit Lower and Upper Slaughter, two idyllic rural villages that have grown organically and evolved over many hundreds of years around their Manor Houses. It was the Lord of the Manor who provided employment and housing for the villagers and also patronage for the village school and church.
The feudal system has long gone and many Manor Houses have disappeared, but two in the Slaughters have survived and been converted to luxury hotels.

Wonderful video Anne, thank you. Both of my paternal grandparents were from Bourton on the Water and their family names are on the war memorial by the river and in the church. My great aunt owned a cottage called Flories Cottage, where my father was evacuated to from London in WWII. I was last there about three years ago and the name plate has now gone from the cottage. My grandmother went to school in the village with the actor Wilfred Hyde-White, whose father was the vicar of the church and christened my father.

Thank you so much for this lovely video, you've done a great job. I have a question which I hope you can help with. My wife and I shall be there from October 3rd to 7th, 2022 staying at the Sunny Nest B&B. What I would like to know, which are the best restaurants or pub restaurants to have an evening meal with LIVE MUSIC playing as we eat. This would be the evenings of Oct 3rd-6th. I always find that this would be such useful information on these videos. What can you recommend please? Thank you.

Hi John Thank you very much for your comments, I'm glad to hear that you found my videos useful. The venues that I know about have live music at the weekend and I notice that your holiday in the Cotswolds is from Monday to Thursday. You can check out Stroud Brewery and Tap Room. Smokey Joes in Cheltenham and Cafe Rene, Gloucester but I'm not sure that your dates will coincide with their music nights.

Thank you Ms. Bartlett for these wonderful videos. We will be staying at the Lords of the Manor for 3 nights in September. I have dinner scheduled at the Manor on Saturday and Sunday dinner at the Porch House, as well as a tourist horse ride at Bourton Vale. I am looking for a 4-5 hour Tour of the Cotswolds with a late lunch at a quintessential pub on Monday. Do you have any Tour Guide recommendations? All of your videos are very interesting and well done. Again, thank you.
