    I’m that guy. The one who researches 1000’s of hours before he pulls the trigger on a van build. Do it myself or hire a company? Hiring seems to always leave a little (or a lot) desired. Some look nice but the mechanicals appear sloppy or the cabinetry and hardware is lacking, space configuration is not to my liking. This is def one of the most complete, high quality builds I have ever seen. Unbelievable how clean the electrical, the plumbing and all the forethought. Well freaking done Titan Vans. Bravo.

    Yep, had the same issue. At first mine was set up with only one set of cabinets over the bed but I go worried it wasn't going to be enough so I had them install on the other side as well. I know the builder thought that it would limit my sit up space but I plan on resting by back on the back doors. If it doesn't work, I will take out one set. Better to have and not need than need and not have.

    Gents, an amazing build. In fact, it is virtually the same as mine. 2019 Sprinter 4x4 170". The only difference is I gave up bed space for more shower/bathroom space. Love the idea of turning it into a sauna, brilliant! Beautiful work. I can only hope mine turns out half as well. I get it in less than 4 weeks so we will see. Just the fact that well known company like yours built something very close to my design gives me a big smile. Congrats on what I think is the perfect build.

    Guys, this is a beautiful build out. Mine is virtually identical. My shower is larger (I'm older and need more room) so I had to give up the larger bed in the back and my dinette uses the front seat swiveled around. But really, it's the same floor plan. I just got it yesterday and the folks that built it out, Custom Coach Conversions is an east coast builder. They did a great job. The heart and soul of the rig is the 3000 watt inverter with 6 Battle Born LI batteries. I hope the owner of this is as please with his build as I am mine.

    Love the versatility here. But there is no extraction fan and only a small gap to vent the air back to the van. This means all those moisture and heat will transfer into the main compartment, not sure if it will be an issue tho. IMO, I would put the small door vent at the bottom of the door instead and an extraction fan that vents outside near the top, so we got fresh air sucking from the main compartment into the shower and then extracted outside as hot air rises.

    great custom build for a very specific usage. However, I don't see any insulation in the garage and specifically in the water heating side that would help keep the temp up when the furnace isn't running. The back doors could use extra padding as well; lots of heat transfer/loss through the bear metal... clean build though, I like it.

  • @TitanVans

    @TitanVans

    4 жыл бұрын

    We figure, if your worried about water freezing it's cold enough to have the furnace run. The furnaces are capable of running for days on end with very little fuel consumption. Also, even with padding the heat transfer will still occur, as well as the fact that there are air leaks throughout the van that are needed for moisture drainage, electrical pass throughs, etc.

    A bachelor's mobile hotel room. Sleek design. The maid/cook could sleep in the heated area under the bed in the garage area in a sleeping bag. Stove,ref,chairs provide for cocktail parties,appetizers, & entree. Maid can do the laundry while he's off skiing! I myself would want more storage but if you live in swim trunks in the summer, you don't need a lot of clothes area & a duffle bag works in the winter. Nice design but not my chosen preference. 😀

    Great looking build, lots of interesting ideas. Where is the grey water tank? Did I miss that? What kind of insulation is used? Someone mentioned it didn't look like there was much, if any insulation in the box holding the water tank. And wood! How heavy is the build? All that wood seems not good for mileage. Do you have tricks and tips for making it lighter?

    We use Thinsulate for insulation. It does a great job, it's non-toxic and it doesn't harbor mold. The Webasto heater does a great job keeping the van interior warm including the tanks.

    lots of potential for water damage using that sink with splashing on the bed, the floor the stove etc. that faucet is way too big for that tiny sink and its so close to the bed, is there a mold preventative on that mattress, or did you make a splash guard? that person must be tiny to use that bathroom with all those hooks in there. seems lots of opportunity for injury. maybe im too clumsy but someone is gonna hurt themselves on those lower ones. its a nice idea i'd like to see an update after they've lived in it for like 6 months. i'd def go for a much much smaller bed and a bigger bathroom area. I do really like the material used to make the bathroom it looks better than most i've seen!

    You would never never never never heat a grey tank. Grey tank = contaminated water, add heat = mold, bugs, bacteria, etc. . .

    So how do you stop the grey tank freezing?

  • @TitanVans

    @TitanVans

    Unfortunately, 4 season vans are extremely difficult and apart of van life. The grey water will freeze if it gets cold enough, you can leave the grey water open and operate it as a pass through system. But if it drops to -20 F there is not much you can do.

    The bed takes up the majority of the space. Just watched a van build by a young man who had a Murphy bed on the side. So you could walk from front to back. The bed was almost as big. He also had a shower in his van. Total cost for his can was 25,000. Why this van is nice I found it to claustrophobic for me and out of reach for most people to buy.

    I am pretty sure I know who you are talking about, $10k for the van, $15k for the build out. But 1) that was DIY so no labor costs. And 2) he bought and installed many used and/or returned items in his build. And that's great, but a professional can't use used parts. The guy put most of his money into his electrical system and he did have a fantastic Murphy bed.

    i would defo chose a permanent bed rather than all the hassle with pulling boards,moving cushions, disassemble tables etc. but seeing the space under this bed makes me think i could use that for more practical use by raising it a bit higher and having bunks under there or a dining area etc. i know the vans get narrower nearer the top so that is problematic for most people but i'm not most people . And i would have to have a more spacious shower and separate toilet. maybe the toilet could go under the bed hmmmm...easy then for emptying out the back door instead of carrying through the van.

    Certainly lighter options available, but we haven't found something lighter that is as durable or long lasting. This entire build only used 6 sheets of plywood, each sheet weighs around 60 lbs, for a total of 360 lbs.

    We custom make in house with 3 different types of foam. A 2" firm layer on the bottom, 2" mid density layer in the middle, and a 1" pillow topper. The mattress is reversible to allow clients to choose their preferred topper feel.

    You mentioned winter sports so are the gray water tanks under the van insulated and heated? Do you just cycle heater air through the water tank compartment or do you use electric line heaters. You might want to put the toilet on a raised cantilever support or a pedestal support so that your toes can slip underneath it when you shower. This is why kitchen cabinets are cut back under the cabinets so there's room for your feet.

  • @TitanVans

    @TitanVans

    We suggest just removing the toilet if you plan to take an extended shower. It comes out in seconds. The grey water tanks are not heated, the main issue with heated grey water is that it can produce massive bacteria growth. We suggest to our clients to leave the grey water open when possible to use as a pass through system.

    Just curious do the rear doors conduct lots of cold, I saw the hollow areas were covered and I assume insulated, but it seems there is lots of painted metal that is not covered that would chill down nicely in cold conditions. Any issues with condensation?

  • @TitanVans

    @TitanVans

    2 жыл бұрын

    Not with our heating system. These vans are metal boxes. Thermal transfer is inevitable and there is no way to insulate every surface without loosing an incredible amount of interior space. Additionally, all vehicles have penetrations in them to allow for water drainage, electrical pass through, and venting. That means air transfer from outside to inside can not be controlled. It's like having an R60 home then leaving the door open. Doesn't matter how much insulation, the outside temp will become in the inside temp.

    Super clean, like the trim on almost all the edges and corners. Only things I'd point out is the shower has numerous issues. The walls shouldn't have any seams whatsoever, it's going to leak eventually. Dark showers will be a huge problem to clean, not to mention it'll be really dark with that door shut, even with the light full blast. Last up - there's no ventilation in the shower! That is a massive oversight and in the winter the condensation will be a nightmare. You didn't show the control center or the cockpit area. Didn't show off the solar panels on top. That said, love the massive bed and most everything else was super nice. Last tip if you plan on doing a lot of these videos highly recommend you buy yourself a wireless lav mic, or a lav mic and mini audio recorder. Still record audio using the camera, too, just so you have a backup in case the lav mic stops working for some reason.

    Solar is on the roof. This van was not equipped with an A/C unit as it was a custom build and the client was using it primarily for skiing. We can add A/C units but they are extremely energy intensive to use while boondocking. If your going to be in dryer climates we recommend using an portable evaporative cooler instead.

    What material is used for the shower ? Does it contain humidity properly? Wouldn't having this spa entice creating molds?

  • @TitanVans

    @TitanVans

    4 жыл бұрын

    It's a modified shower stall from Van Wife Components. It's like a heated shower / dry sauna / hot room for drying wet clothes - not a steam room that would be pumping out moisture. Additionally, we use Thinsulate for insulation which is non-toxic and mold resistant. Colorado is also a very dry climate. So - mold should not be an issue.
