We need a "wagon" unit, that holds supplies. Then steppe units could charge back to wagon, get resupplied with arrows and continue the skirmish. this is actually historically correct, parthians well known for this. Wagon could also be used attract mercenary units, and hopfully put them in pillage mode - ignore orders and run off with booty.

that could be a good idea however one wagon should be apply to supply a lot of troops so it doesn't impact the amount of skirmishers you can bring and also would mean if the enemy player snipes the wagon then you lose that advantage making it possible to counter skirmish spams

Anthony Damiani M2TW had a large Christian Cross wagon unit, that boosted moral of nearby units. plus we already have Chariots so .. shouldn't be too much extra work.

This is a very good idea and historically accurate, but also one man and a horse can carry quite a lot of arrows.

    1. Battle: Just reminded me on this weekend, when I played a guy who also dropped out because initial fight did not go his way. At first I thought, maybe a bad connection, then the same thing in the second fight. It annoys me, since it takes time to get someone in, takes time to select an army, time to load and time to set your troops. Then some bad mannered guy abandons the game just when the fight starts. I hosted the game, I had Arevaci and he could of picked whatever he liked to counter me. 2. Battle: Just goes to prove me first point. Even if your initial fight goes bad, it pays of to stick with the battle, you can turn it around. I think your opponents key mistake was, he was to worried for his slingers and forgot to micro the rest of the battlefield (key mele units just taking cheap fire and standing around). Your skirmisher Cav was some sort of MVP, it kept him completely distracted. He did not protect his slingers well when they had killing power, and then he over protected them when they were almost dead aka. they were not worth it.

In second battle it looks like that your opponent mistaken colchis for armenia and thats the reason why he pick heavy cavalry counter

Hey Heir, you should do some videos about to use skirmishers effectively in combat as well. Because some skirmishers are amazing in combat but many don't realize that. Like my agrianian axemen yesterday, they were kicking shield bearer ass. I think it's quite interesting to see you with some skirmish heavy armies! Keep it up mate.

Heir, for the magical shield wall ability with no formation attack on to work best is to click an attack order on an enemy unit you are engaging with immediately after you popped shield wall. In that way your guys will gain the magical extra defense and will not glitched out like they did in this video.

boxing up at the start of a game is bad, but when you fight nomads the other guy will natural box up as you have no real center with your all cav army, what you would call your center could move around very fast and suddenly be a flanking force. So you have to put units on all sides due to the very high mobility of a cav army. its just if you pick the counter to nomad (which is greek, athens sparta, syracuse, due to affordability of high armor hoplites) your not going to bring your own cav thinking your going to support your flanks so well that your just going to crush nomad cav with citizen cav and the merc cav is limited and overpriced to fight the cost-effective lancer nomad cav. i think the hoplite can hold out you just need to cover the rear of them with other hoplites against nomad cav in hoplite wall

  • @AlJohnstone88

Does magical shield wall still benefit the unit when attacked from the sides or rear?

Your completely underrating them. I've destroyed entire Roman legions with hails of arrows and encircling my enemies. Seriously once you seriously know to use these guys, you won't regret it.

Jake Wakley Well the regular army (Legionaries) had only Roman citizens in them and of course there were no black Roman citizens. They used a ton of mercenaries of course but you cant give them 50 different troop types. Gladiators were slaves though and thus could be of any culture or ethnicity.

+The Grouch Late reply, but citizenship (in the context of the post-republic Roman empire) was a social construct that applied to people from every corner of the empire, and wasn't a birthright inherent to a certain class of peoples ala Greece.

Kira Reilly Tbh I don't really know anymore what was happening in the video. What kind of units they were using. And yes the imperial Army had to use every resource they could get. But the early Roman army system only used Roman citizens in their actual professional troops. I guess calling them Legionaries wasn't really correct. But Hastati, Princeps and Triarii all had to be Roman citizens. And back then Roman citizens meant actual Romans.

It would be better if they got rid of the nomad factions in multiplayer battles because i do not think they bring anything good to the game. People get mad when you use them and they are incredibly bad just because the horse archer do not do any damage.

I disagree, nomad battles can be some of the most interesting asymmetric battles in the game. However, it's usually best if the non-nomad agrees not to pick a hard counter.

Your 1st opponent has no respect, you can't quit a match in a middle of a fight even that is your fault to pick the wrong units.

16:42 This game is still fucked and not working properly . The Warscape engine sucks ass and you can't deny it . I love TW's but I have the power to recognize that Rome 2 has failed as a part of the Total War series . Too bad , it could have been a magnificient sequel to an excellent game .
