    For help with army management I want to recommend using the "Total War Scroll" rather than the Default in the "control" options menu. It'll bring the camera directly up and down when you scroll your mouse wheel, and it really helps with perspective. I'll also say you might consider moving your camera angle (MMB) more often. If you're looking down directly at the field it can help you think differently.

    Since you want to improve your game in Rome 2, I thought I'd share some tips with you, hoping that I don't come off as conceited in the process. You should spread your skirmish line more, the more bunched up they are, the easier it is for enemy skirmishers to hit them. Of course, keeping them bunched technically means they will be less susceptible to a cavalry charge, but they will get mopped up by cavalry regardless. Unfortunately in Rome 2, the army composition really is 90% of the game. I know you're not in to tournament play, but obviously the easiest way to get better at the game is to bring more competitive armies. With Carthage (a mid-tier faction in terms of power at best), the only semi-competitive army that you could bring is a sword rush with lots of iberian and gallic warriors, at least 4-6 cavalry units and most importantly, an elephant unit. You have to spread your units quite thin, take up as much distance with them, tie down all the enemy infantry with your units, use your large amount of cavalry to circle around and tie down spearmen (yes, spearmen if need be, suiciding carthaginian cav to hold off javelin-firing spearmen from your elephants is a worthy trade-off) and attack the skirmishers, pull your elephant to one side and rear/flank charge the tied-down sword line. There really is no other way to field Carthage competitively, their mid-tier sword line is quite cost-ineffective except for Scutarii, and Noble Fighters are a waste of money.

    You are right...I just hate super spread out forces...I don't argue the merits of it, it just looks so derpy men lined up two deep for battle :) Yea I need to focus in on army composition as well. I agree it is a big part of the win in this game. You are always welcome to post your advice. No air of conceitedness comes off in it :)

    Does anyone else really want the shogun 2 multiplayer style back? i just cant stand the original pvp (always just played total war singleplayer) but shogun 2 had me hooked on multiplayer, just love being able to work towards something other than skill level

    I don't :) Shogun 2 multiplayer was fun, but it was too time consuming. I had to constantly battle for upgrade tokens and reset veterans, and veteran farm. It was a cool idea and fun, but it is just to time consuming for me. I like just being able to jump in and play without all the extra effort to unlock everything.

    I, too, miss the customization and leveling up of generals and veterans for the same reasons. With Rome 2 multiplayer, I've felt no need to play it since the battles really amount to nothing other than wins/losses in your statistics. If Rome 2 had customizable generals, then there would at least be something to show off your progression in multiplayer.

    Hey Heir I was thinking about skirmish cav and wanted your opinion , would it be good idea to use skirmish cav against shock cav instead of foot skirmishers? Because I was thinking that you could use the skirmish cav to hit the shock cav with javalens or arrows, and lure it to a place, don't know were, but then hit the shock cav with cheaper cav because it has already been damaged by the faster skirmish cav. I hope that make's sense, and i love your videos, I learn so much from them, keep it up!

    Heir, hey would you know if its better to charge into a rearcharge, or stay fighting frontally and take the charge.... i mean logic goes that it would be better to charge back, but it also seems like it splits up some units and while they are loosely packed they get smashed by the cav? idk any thought?

    HeirofCarthage Which Halo? I don't get this whole hatred of console games. I do the vast majority of my gaming on computer, but I have a Wii-U. Why? You can't play Mariokart 8, or Super Smash Bros. U on computer(and it'll be another few years before there's emulators). Halo is the last old school FPS game, although by the looks of it: Halo 5 is gearing up to be CoD in space.

    Alex Sitaras I mean old school in that it's similar to Quake/Quake II/Quake 3/UT, as they are the grandaddies of MP shooters. CoD is good at what it does, but it also lead the charge with the style of gritty realism. I'm actually surprised they haven't gone back to WWII with CoD yet. Games like Halo, or say Painkiller/Serious Sam are the exception not the norm when it comes to first person shooters these days.

    Speedezzz 1. I doubt you have ever been hit by a slingstone from a professional slinger. 2. There is no way they can pierce armour. A stone couldn't pierce the cloth underclothing, never mind metal. 3. Slingers caused the most damage through blunt force, i.e, smashing you in the unprotected parts of your body, face, joints etc. They could also cause considerable damage if they make good contact even with a metal helmet, through concussive force.

  • @HeirofCarthage

    @HeirofCarthage

    9 жыл бұрын

    Certain slingers would use lead shot as well as stones. There was also different types of slings with different ranges, ect. Though I doubt sling ammo frequently pierced bronze or iron armor, I don't think it is unrealistic to think it could still injure men in armor. The kinetic energy of the shot can still be quite punishing. Even with a helmet I would imagine someone could suffer concussions from a good shot. I am not sure why they balanced things the way they did in this game, but it just works out that way :)

  • @Bladebard

    @Bladebard

    HeirofCarthage A sizable dent in the lower abdomen might make it difficult to breathe. Also: A shortbow probably wouldn't pierce armour as effectively as a more modern english longbow would, it's debatable if a slingstone would pierce armour. At close-medium range, the Shortbow definitely would. At close range, a sling MIGHT depending on the type of metal/material the combatant is wearing. Assuming leather armour, probably not, it would do some significant damage in the form of blunt force trauma.
