Both Cimmerian Heavy Archers and Picked Peltasts are VERY tough. I charged both of them with citizen cavalry thinking I would kill them off quickly. Well? No. They destroyed my cav, both of them. Cimmerian Heavy Archers fight with spears in melee.

Steppe spearmen are 190 talent units with access to Square formation, I think they can be very, very cost-effective in holding out enemy units. I absolutely LOVE Picked Peltasts, I put up a vid where 4 of these guys single-handedly slaughtered an Evocati Spam. They're not OP, they just cannot be allowed to shower their javelins for an extended period, that 10 ammunition is amazing for a unit who's javelins are so great in damage.

Yea also if a roman player attacked in thin infantry lines you could put your hoplites in walls letting the romans over lap your men...picked peltast behind and let the javelins begin. That would likely destroy them quickly as well.

Hoplite wall combined with high-damage skirmishers/thureos spears is a deadly combination.

100,000 sub, keep it going you are one of the best Total War channels out there!

Awesome! I love faction focus! The Cimerians looks like a mix of greeks and nomads, that's so cool!

Man, had to wait over an hour for 1080p....Totally worth it.

I find it annoying when people claim about particular units being OP, because that's really not how they should be judged. You can only get these units in certain factions, and so you should compare overall unit rosters rather than just units. Even if Picked Peltasts are on average better value for money, Cimmeria still suffers from weak cav and no sword infantry, so it is constrained in that way. When looking at things like chariots, they're OP because generally the countries able to field them can bring strong armies to accompany them and so the army as a whole is OP

That is partly true I think. Such as when Baktria had amazing elephants and amazing cavalry along with horse archers it was just too much.

Finally, Faction Focus! You need to do these for several of the updated factions due to the Emperor Edition update!

A good video I have a campaign going as Cimmeria (just on normal trying them out) and I've successfully dealt with all the Steppe Factions and even took over Parthia and Baktria . And I know what you mean when it comes to using this faction, have the Hoplites tank the enemies damage and get those Elite Archers and Good Cav Archers to just rain down on them. Personally though I would have liked if Cimmeria got a better Cav selection I mean I've seen Royal Scythia's excellent shock Cav or maybe they could have given a descent pike unit to Cimmeria or a better selection of Swordsmen and/or Axemen. But Aside from things like that I have enjoyed playing as them thus far, they can also get quite an impressive fleet up due to the Cimmerian Elite Archers....melee ships are a tad disappointing however but if used correctly the Cimmerian fleets can no doubt be threatening.

I personally adore Theuros spears, simply because they have the attributes needed to back up their precursors are a primary means of attack, but also have the melee attributes to plug holes in your lines. When compared to Peltasts, they have the shots per minute to stay competitive, and despite using a weaker projectile... They have 33% more men then the peltasts, making them fairly cost effective as dedicated support skirmishers despite slight dips in damage and throwing speed. Their asking price isn't high, especially for the typical Theuros spears, and the Illrian Marines are particularly genius for this role, with greatly improved accuracy and melee attack.

I was expecting Cimmeria to have a decent selection of shock and melee cav units. The missile cav and infantry choices look alright and I didn't expect them to have much on melee infantry. But I think CA need to give this faction a better choice in melee and shock cav in future.

In campaign I am sure you can get mercs to make up for it, but I think the idea is that if they also had good shock cav they would maybe have too many great tools. Already they get good hoplites and archers and horse archers.

They should also have Steppe Armoured Lancers because they have crap cav.

How can a faction thats a few kilometers from the steppes have such a crappy selection of cav?

have you done one on baktria? I would really like to use this faction but dont really know its strengths/weaknesses

I'm quite alright with Picked Peltasts being a little OP, you get a VERY elite skirmisher that can still be slaughtered by a mid-tier sword unit in melee if you aren't careful. You have to use them right, just like with other skirmishers. Over all, I'm kind of hoping that skirmishers make a bit of a comeback; I've been seeing way too many sword rushes, and there needs to be a way for you to counteract them other than just a better, higher quality sword rush. Picked Peltasts and Cimmerian Heavy Archers can, potentially, work towards balancing out the game a little more from where it is currently. As of now, I'm currently working on some sort of Cimmerian build that could counteract a Roman build.

Potentially yes. The sniping bow would want to be near the edge of woods, stay hidden in cover and fire out into the open whilst remaining hidden.

My personal opinion, Massilia and Pergamon seem to be the stronger of the 4 factions that have come out from a multiplayer standpoint. I am sure all the factions added can be used very effectively if you build the right army and play right, but those 2 are my favorites of this new batch at the moment

I believe they are next actually. I played a battle with Cimmeria, Colchis, and Pergamon so far.

It appears that the AI was markedly improved with this DLC both in this battle and in the pergamum campaign the AI finally run with some semblance functionality. Don't think these Improvements should be DLC when it should have been like this in the first place.

I bought DLC. Game patched(and I have it set to max priority.) I can play all factions in custom battles and in multiplayer but not in grand campaing...

Yea I am sure my pronunciation is way off on lots of stuff, and not that I don't appreciate the knowledge I usually will just pronounce stuff the way that is natural for me. Though sometimes of course I try to incorporate it.

I can't understand why so many cavalry, spear and sword units lost their trample/frenzied charge, cavalry counter tactics and frenzy abilityes. It's so stupid.

I think the idea was to make the units that retained them have a more special feel rather than all units possessing them. It encourages more unit variety and the elite units that retained some of those abilities make it more worth the cost I think.

HeirofCarthage I don't like this cajnge it makes these units so orthless now, especialy spear units which now kill cav units so slow (e.g: thureos spears vs cataphractes). It hurst factions like Ardiei so much as if they weren't crapy enough.

Also, I have done several tests about formation vs non formation attack units and in them the formation attack units always seemed to win.

Are the newer of the factions all Greco factions?

I feel like Massilia is by far the best new faction. I'm kinda dissapointed with the dlc factions, Cimmeria and Pergamon where really disappointing in particular.

Cimmeria and Pergamon are just as good as Massilia I think. The other factions have better skirmishing and Cimmeria can be dangerous with its horse archers.

I dunno, I don't feel like horse archers are super good in this patch and I can't imagine a situation in which a 720 talent peltast would be cost effective. The Cimmerian Heavy Archers look all right but with the boosted range of the longbow hunters and their stealth fire ability seems like it could be just as good if they're used right. It's mostly just that Cimmeria seems to get the worst parts of Scythia while Pergamon just doesn't seem to be a very distinctive faction of its own.

not even armored lancers, come on CA, and too bad they didnt add massialia to the CiG campagin

Steppe Spears. 52 melee defence, 30 bonus vs large... Yeah... It will be totally useless...

Their morale is 25, so you could spit at them and they may route. No doubt if they get into a cav fight without being charged or outflanked they could be useful, but they are shakey to be sure.

Cimmera looks like absolute garbage. You'd think they'd at least get decent cav for a greek faction but they have nothing of actual use except... affordable hoplites and a high-tier horse archer?

If im not mistaken the cimmerian heavy archers are equal in strength with 5 less armour than the cretans.. and since they aren't mercernaries you can bring alot of them. I wouldn't say Cimmeria is ''absolute garbage'' x)

Well I think I miss used them here. If you combined the holding power of hoplites with horse archers and picked peltast it could be pretty interesting.
