KEEP DOING YOU TOSIN! WE NEED MORE INSTRUMENTAL BANDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He's so enjoyable to watch and listen to!!!
Tosin has a really unique way of playing. I love how he takes the the Wooten slap technique to metal and 8 string guitars.
Virtuosic in every sense of the word. This man is incredible.
Animals As Leaders HAS to remain an instrumental band, please, there's already plenty of bands with vocals incorporated!
dude... PLACENTA???!!!! hahahahaha
He makes its looks so easy, but its actually freaking insane.
Abasi listens to Dillinger. Life complete.

Skyrim Sniper WITH THE FUCKING BAND //// Thank you so much.
He is just so well spoken, so concise and clear with his explanations
Have you ever met tosin? I found him very, very nice to talk to and really down to earth.
Great interview, thanks for sharing this.
That was AWESOME!!!!
I would love to see you being interviewed while playing guitar. It would absolutely make my day once I see you doing that
He is obviously one of the MOST AWESOME guitarists of today. Haters may puck off.
his "thumping" as he says, is pretty dope
This is such helpful content!
The way he speaks and how articulate he is comes out in his playing.

nuke97 The playingstyle of a player really represents his character in a lot of ways. But that's with art in general :)

It's all relative.
I like how he played a Gmaj7, realized that it wasn't in the key, and just kept going.
what a wonderfully bright kid. tosin, my friend
he seems to be so humble and intelligent.... i love his music
he makes it look so flipping easy....it is unbelievably devastating!
dudes this is a free guitar lesson. this is the best video i seen by him.
Yes, thanks a lot!
It's so cool that he is still striving to learn new things on the instrument. Music is definitely life long learning
THANK YOU
For the first 20 minutes I felt like "I can totally learn this". Then, at 21:15 I remembered what band this guy is the mastermind behind, and what total alien he is. *awe*
Tosin is super smart. He almost looks as though he's struggling to explain in simplicity the complexity of what he writes.
Damn, this guy is awesome! Pat attention y'all, this is the future right there.
the way he explains music and practicing guitar finally makes sense to me lmao XD im glad i saw this interview
THNX A-LOT!
Well deserved attention for a well talented musician, finally people are waking up...
this is a great interview! I love this guy, the more time we get with him candidly before somebody from a record company sharks in and buys rights to everything he does, the better.
he breaths funny while doing petrucci excercise o0

he had a slight cold / running nose or something during this.
it's freakin cool!
Its part of his "rock discipline" video. Excellent practice tools!
interview? that one question made this a lesson, im glad tho, kinda helped me out
I think practicing at a moderate tempo has helped me way more than playing slow. Good advice in this interview.
Tosin has the most awesome hats
most mellow player I've ever seen.
Rock Discipline for Silverstein's guitarist? GL to him.
My two (harsh) cents: You can't call yourself a truly good guitar player until you can play anything you like, anytime you like. It's a bad idea to have to rely on a "library" of songs and pieces to be able to play. Like Johnny B. Goode, you should be able to play the guitar like ringing a bell. Anything, anytime, anywhere. That's why Guthrie Govan is my hero. I'm happy Tosin is gonna work on his improv, i think he can really do something crazy if he learns it well!

Guthrie Govan is the ish!!! I think a lot of the virtuosos are kinda frauds...I've seen Vai a few times, and I've never heard him play the same lead, the same way twice. I find that lack of consistency a flaw. Paul Wagoner has played all his leads the same, exact way, every time I've seen him.
i like that sweeping excersise
love how it ends brutal as hell, what song is it? I also noticed how Tosin's thumb is ultra curved out, crazy, but that thumping/tapping bass sound is really awesome.
SILVERSTEIN! I saw them live! they were great!
Tosin seems like a really nice guy in all his interviews, would love to take lessons from him. :)
I actually taught myself how to play the guitar. I printed off sheets of all of the different chords, and practiced them on my Dad's guitar on my spare time. I then learned different techniques such a tremolo picking and sweep picking by ear. It is possible my friend. :)
12:15 I have never seen someone play a major scale with that much confidence and have it suck SO HARD.
wow josh from silverstein asked a question, I was a fan way back highschool.
As someone who is just now starting to learn how to play the guitar, I can confidently say that i understood 2% of what he said.
21:14 I always wondered how he did that, he makes it look so easy!
It's the composition that is most unique. You know the that invented the thumb tecnique has a straight thumb too. Tosin states in one video that hitchhiker's thumb isn't necesarry for it as well, but I have it and hope that it helps somehow.
This dude is a genius.
I love guitar no matter the genre.
dream theater!!!
i think he explained the guitar practice and theory very well, im still learning guitar theory and at first i didnt understand what it was, but it helps writing music :D
What is the song and band from the outro of the video? Thanks for the upload.
Gotta love the english subtext. Between the buried and me = between the videos of philadelphia...??
Its like he was expecting somebody to ask about his slapping technique 19:05 He was soooo ready.
All my songs start on the guitar, cause i play alot on the guitar. That moment was hilarious .
18:08 to 18:30 gotta love that sweep
Don't add vocals on animals as leaders please
very interesting, but for many virtually unachievable, especially the thumb/slap bass his thumb bends in a complete arc and mine is straight?very unique and amazing techniques that are awe inspiring but almost impossible for many.
everyone needs to listen to aphex twin and squarepusher.
@magmar9264

Yes they do, but this is far more interesting to some people since they make their music by hand.

Mag Mar aphex and squarepusher both use their hands to make music last time I checked
@magmar9264

I didn't mean that literally I was refering to the instruments, I know Squarepusher plays bass and Aphex plays piano but I was refering to all of the instruments being played by hand. It just feels more real to some people.

Mag Mar i knew what you meant :P ...just joshin
My goodness. Tosin is just ridiculous. I have never admired another musician like I do Mr. Abasi.
It's very interesting how he breathes as he plays... As a former Brass instrument player I find myself doing the same thing, often 'gasping' breaths between phrases... which proves to be a pain in the ass when tracking acoustic guitar parts at times.
I like his jacket :)
This whole time I've been like "Hey, I can't try that slap technique because I have a bit of a thumbnail for playing fingerstyle". ...and now he's like "Oh hey, you should have some thumbnail." CHALLENGE ACCEPTED.
What's that song at 22:43 sounds nice
Does anyone else notice how at 10:38 when Tosin is playing he is breathing differently?
Tosin's thumb is literally a 90 degree angle.
A teacher, my point is that while they did not by any means have a guitar teacher, they certainly had teachers of some sort to learn what they did to create such an instrument. There is however no doubt in my mind that the first guitarist had someone teach them how to play and understand music, and they transitioned that knowledge to their instrument of choice, the guitar.
yes! I breathe in sharply when I do fast picking (tremelo) and always get the mick taken out of me, but if he does it I no longer feel bad =D lol
19:25 Tosin one of the best in the business right now ,but I think who really brought that technique to the spotlight was the great JACO PASTORIUS (;
ajas prietito... eres la bomba... \m/
I think the metronome was a decoration in this video!
of course you can
It's actually kinda ingenious for him to use the wood plugs because they're very classy and reserved. -nods-
ONE WORD... LOTION!
true that, do you know if the @21:30 part is an AAL song?
Silverstein was in da videooooo :DD
What's the song at the end with the breakdown?
he's my new god!
What is the song at the end??? Fucking HEAVY
Welcome. :)
Aphex Twin and Squarepusher... Nice name drops :)
Who's the second guitarist he mentions at 8:46?
they're all euopean, the guys asking the questions heh
yeah i really like animals as leaders because they're unique in they're own way and are not looking foward to having vocals :)
\m/ for Tosin, and \m/ for Der Weg Einer Freiheit
Regi Wooten, Victors brother invented thumping on a six string guitar to emulate slap bass. Some trivia for you :)
fucking cool interview
so why doesnt he have the locking nut down on the high B and E strings?
whats the song at the end
victor wooten (y) i always thought i have already seen this thumb technics :3
Michael of Placenta's Voice reminds me of Christoph Waltz
10:50 he breathes every bar...now that's discipline!
Yes you could.
What's the outro song??
whats the song at the end?
Haha , in the Background there's a nice axe-fx
