    My two (harsh) cents: You can't call yourself a truly good guitar player until you can play anything you like, anytime you like. It's a bad idea to have to rely on a "library" of songs and pieces to be able to play. Like Johnny B. Goode, you should be able to play the guitar like ringing a bell. Anything, anytime, anywhere. That's why Guthrie Govan is my hero. I'm happy Tosin is gonna work on his improv, i think he can really do something crazy if he learns it well!

  • @jrsu37

    @jrsu37

    9 жыл бұрын

    Guthrie Govan is the ish!!! I think a lot of the virtuosos are kinda frauds...I've seen Vai a few times, and I've never heard him play the same lead, the same way twice. I find that lack of consistency a flaw. Paul Wagoner has played all his leads the same, exact way, every time I've seen him.

    I actually taught myself how to play the guitar. I printed off sheets of all of the different chords, and practiced them on my Dad's guitar on my spare time. I then learned different techniques such a tremolo picking and sweep picking by ear. It is possible my friend. :)

    It's very interesting how he breathes as he plays... As a former Brass instrument player I find myself doing the same thing, often 'gasping' breaths between phrases... which proves to be a pain in the ass when tracking acoustic guitar parts at times.

    A teacher, my point is that while they did not by any means have a guitar teacher, they certainly had teachers of some sort to learn what they did to create such an instrument. There is however no doubt in my mind that the first guitarist had someone teach them how to play and understand music, and they transitioned that knowledge to their instrument of choice, the guitar.
