Tory grandee warns Conservatives of electoral disaster if they get rid of Rishi Sunak

“Any attempt to change the leadership would be absolutely disastrous for the Conservative Party. It would tear us apart even further.”
Former Conservative home secretary Kenneth Baker warns the party needs to "knuckle down" and focus on closing the gap with Labour before the election under Rishi Sunak's premiership.

Yet again we hear a Tory insisting their polling will pick up toward an election, though that has happened in the past it is not a given and some pundits say it probably wont happen this time, too many have learnt that most time Tories open their mouths what comes out is very economical with the truth.

All this focus on the boats is bizarre. If anyone wants to enter the UK, the far easier route is in a car or lorry, because the Tories ceased checking any incoming vehicles, after the EU exit. They stopped those checks, which are supposed to be compulsory, because they'd made no preparations, and attempting to carry them out woukd expose our lack of staff and facilities. The lack of checks also means we have zero leverage in renegotiating our deal with the EU. We can't ask for reduced checks on our exports, in exchange for similar reduction in theirs, if we aren't carrying out checks on EU goods.

Ken Baker, the political sage who thought that the Dangerous Dogs act was a good piece of legislation. Courts savaged that more than any dog could have done.

Either way, they will get annihilated and then fracture. Expect a more extreme right-wing faction that basically joins with Reform and a moderate faction. What that will mean in terms of the political landscape for 2025 onwards, who knows? One things for certain, it’s going to look very different.

The Tories don't deserve to retain power but I'd still prefer a Tory government than let the Labour Party in. The big turn off to voting Conservative is Rishi Sunak. If he is still leader at the time of the election my vote will go to the Reform Party.

It would be naive to imagine electoral defeat will be avoided by them retaining Sunak & Co. Nothing will now prevent the Tories from being voted out of power within months where what they say is all but irrelevant and the only thing of importance are announcements from the incoming Labour Gov.
