Yes him and Tavares need to go. But those contracts are very expensive. So likely maple leafs will need to retain salary for a year in exchange for a top 4 D and young prospect and a top 6 forward. Side note, leafs are in need of a goalie as well, so it would be interesting to see if they can pickup a goalie with these trades as well.

Why aren't people talking about trading the most overrated #1 d-man in the league. Rielly, doesn't - hit-PK- clear the front of the net- no point shot. He passes the puck to the forward group and picks up assists that any mid d-man that can make an outlet pass could put up similar numbers.

5:41 As a Habs fan, that Montreal trade is ridiculous. Why would the Habs trade 5 decent/solid assets (including a ~#5 OA pick!) for an “star” known to disappear in the playoffs, PLUS dead weight in Reaves? (also overpaid…). Nobody will pay a ransom for Marner with that contract (and playoff reputation, earned or not), and one year away from UFA. They will be lucky to find a team willing to take him in exchange for a “decent” player, and maybe a 2nd/3rd pick, assuming they retain at least 25%, IMO. And of course it must be somewhere that Mitch WANTS to go, since he holds all the cards with his NMC… My guess is Mitch won’t cooperate, they will be stuck with him next season, then face losing him to FA, or maybe trade his rights after the season for a 5th or something if they can’t afford to resign him. (Probably same story for Tavares). I said from day 1 Tavares signing was a mistake, as they didn’t need another #1C, then the second mistake was giving him the immovable contract. For Marner, they should have moved him (or Matthews or Nylander… at least one of the three, to shake things up) when the new GM came in, before the NMC’s kicked in. (Like what the Habs did with Subban in the trade for Weber, which seemed awful at first, it ended up decent, maybe even a win for Mtl). Last year was the perfect opportunity for Leafs to make a change…. But no. Now they are in an even tougher spot. Good luck, Treliving…

If you don't get top talent in return, what's the point? Put an aggressive forward with a coach who wants to be your friend? Leave Matthews and Nylander to carry a team of youngsters? Or get aged out replacements prone to injuries? No matter how you look at the future rebuild, the next 4-5 years will be no different than they are today: built to lose. The only solution right now is to get rid of all the top leafs for first rounders. Start over.

WHY ON EARTH would anyone trade for John Gibson? I'd sooner target Dostal. God. Gibson turns 31 years old this summer, and his best playing days are behind him. Yes, he plays on a terrible team, but he had a win percentage of under 30% this year, and a Sv% of 0.888. Dostal played for the same team, had a win percentage of 37%, and a Sv% of 0.902. And I know GAA is basically a team stat, but Gibson's was 3.54 and Dostals was 3.33, so make of that what you will. Dostal turns 24 this year, and he started nearly as many games as Gibson did (38 vs 44). I think he has FAR more potential to be a franchise goaltender than Gibson. It is the rare goaltender who can maintain a starter's game frequency, combined with a higher than 0.900 Sv% beyond ~34 years old. So even if Gibson is able to perform better on a better team, for how long? I give it a year or two, maybe, before he is a backup that you play because you have no choice. Sure, his contract expires after 3 years, but I don't think he is the answer for any team looking to find a clutch goalie who will steal them some games (to be fair, I have my doubts about Dostal too, but he if it was a binary choice between those two, Dostal would be my pick, 10 times out of 10).

He seems to honestly hate the pressure of TO. I also disagree that the decision isnt made by the team, it absolutely can be, if they approach him and say "we're trading you", why would he want to stay at that point anyway? Its over. Which is exactly how Burke traded Kaberle with a NMC. He said "we're trading you", his agent and him cried and said "what about our NMC?" and Burke said, "you can sit in the press box all year until you give me that 10 team list" a day later Burke got his 10 team and list and moved him. JT, Matthews, Marner and Nylander they all the same style we need to mix it up with guys who are feisty willing to go all out with determination guys with heart none of those players offer that only skill. As u can see its same shit for 6-7 years it's obvious it's the core but Dubas and Treliving refuse to break up the core. Until the core is split if not it will be the same shit every yr 1st Rd early exit. ⚰️🪦🤯🤯🤯🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Why would any team pay anything for Marner? I guess if Marner could be convinced to go to some team that has a hideous contract they want to dump - maybe. Otherwise just wait a year and pick him up for free. The side benefit is that the Leafs either have to be content to be a regular season team for another year or they buy Marner (and/or Tavares) out. Added bonus in the you still get Marner (and/or Tavares) for free and Toronto becomes even less of an attractive location for free agents.

I see the incentive for Marner to go to Utah because he wants to be THE guy, and in Utah he would be. Give it a go for 1 year and see what happens... who knows, crazy things happen in the NHL

Are you smoking crack? You would give Bertuzzi and Domi $4.5 to $5 million per year? Buddy, you will never ever see the Leafs win a cup with that sort of thinking. Last Stanley Cup 1967, last finals appearance 1967. Here comes a rebuild.

I think Ottawa would be insane for trading Brady, and I dont know how Brady would be the one they decide to move on from, but crazier things have happened if Gretzky can be traded than anyone can. There also was some rumblings that he may want out after missed the playoffs *again* this year. If he wants out, and Ottawa could be tempted to move him, it could be a win win for both teams. Marner would be likely the best player available to the Sens in the trade market, the Leafs with Marner + could likely give the Sens the best offer to be honest. Leafs get a guy that is elite with skill but also is just built way different than any of their superstar players and Ottawa gets a guy that could get them to the playoffs better. Essentially, the Leafs get a guy that can make them go deeper in the playoffs and the Sens get a guy that can help them even just get to the playoffs. Possibly: Marner + Liljegren or Robertson or Both + 1st rd pick For Brady + Chychrun Dunno, could get interesting come July.

Dude, this franchise hasn't played in the Stanley Cup Finals since 1967 - 1967. The Harold Ballard curse still continues. They can make all the trades they want, but this franchise will NOT win the cup in your lifetime.

I would trade RW Marner and C Potus Holmburg and picks or prospects and or G holl for G Jordan Binnington at 50% and LW Pavel Bushnevich 50% and or C Brayden Schenn he good at winning face off and controlling the puck which the leafs suck at big time and Also I if I was the gm I would trade for Mario Ferraro with the sharks I trade Timothy Lijegren and FNick Robinson and pick or two and prospect for D Mario Ferraro and C Luke Kunin and W Fabian Zetterlund.

Why would ANY player go to Toronto? They're in an utter state, the media and fans are a f*cking nightmare for players, and the taxes are high compared to many American markets.

Cmon Steve, 8 years of the same thing and any fanbase would be losing their sanity. 1967.. many reasons why players want to be in Toronto. We all have different opinions- high taxes and tough media exist in a lot of other markets. At least teams like Rangers and Habs have seen finals appearances in the last decade and cups in more recent memory. Media and tax are similar story there
