I’ve been watching hockey for over 20 years and I don’t blame you for writing him off but what a mistake it was made clear that the leafs decided to actually care about defence this year. Riley has more hits and more blocked shots than any other year he has in the NHL. Matthews for example ended this season with less goals but the leading forward for blocked shots in the NHL. Blocked shooting lanes win championships in hockey and it’s nice to see that there is actually a legitimate chance this year

Keefe just confirmed Bunting isn’t playing Game 5. I know what I said in the video, but that’s the danger in picking a side. I can see both sides. It’s for sure a message sent to a player that at times had a hard time listening. Just a sticky situation if this series isn’t over in 5.

The suspension is the leagues discipline. Putting him in the press box now is team discipline. sends a team msg to Bunting that needs to be sent: you let us down with selfish, undisciplined play and we don't trust you right now. Other thing is, Bunting needs to sit because he's now a motivator for the Lightning. We need them to feel doubt, discouragement. Not righteous rage. Aside: Cernak is definitely concussed.

The Leafs do their drop pass to gain the zone too often and Tampa is just waiting for it in their trap scheme. The Leafs need to mix it up. If someone like Marner or Nylander just puts their head down and drives past the blue line once and a while then Tampa will have to think twice.

Lalonde didn't say anything every nhl team didn't already know

need a possession game to return. A number of times I saw guys who probably had 4 seconds of puck time available but made immediate passes that failed nearly every time. Got to take a step or three, everyone moving feet to open lanes for breakout....or you just get choked through the nuetral zone repeatedly trying to make the quick passes. Sometimes the Lightning skater was the only thing around for 100ft and somehow a Leaf managed to bounce a pass off their legs or sticks...or gets hand bombed. When the Leafs are owning the puck we know they will turn back at the line and reset rather than give the puck away, must move feet, must be more patient getting the puck up the ice and not try to force a play immediately. Lucky for Kerfoot he saved himself from game 5 press box, I guess Lafferty is the odd man out even though I prefer him over Kerfoot.

Bunting has that dog in him that the team has lacked through games 3 and 4, thats what gets him into the lineup. Regardless of the mistakes, he skates as hard as possible every shift and gets in the corners.

You believe Bunting won't do that to us again, however, that's what we all kept saying year after year with Kadri. Heck, even after we traded him for doing stupid sh!t, he continued to do it elsewhere. Some players just can't get it through their heads, and never learn. I miss Kadri now, though. He would be perfect to play on a line with ROR and Cookie (and move Knies up - damn, he looked good with Marner). As for "a guy with 23 goals", yeah, Bunting may have those goals, but you could put pretty much any player on a line with Marner and he'd score 23 goals in a season.

We can say we have won the past 2 games but we can't say the team has put in any more than 15 minutes of effort both games and we need to hit another game in order to win. Time for a small shake up. MICHAEL BUNTING SHOULD BE A GAME #5 HEALTHY SCRATCH. And here is why - I love Michael Bunting and am happy he is on the Leafs. Tampa must win Game 5, 6 and 7 to advance. The most difficult game for Tampa will be Game 5. So it follows that the easiest game for Toronto will be Game 5. If Tampa wins that 5th game, doubt will seed in the minds of the Leafs and Tampa will pour it on those final 2 games like hungry tigers. Coming out of Game 4 Toronto has the momentum. Which brings me back to Bunting. If you keep Bunting out and win. Great. If you keep him out and lose, you inject him for Game #6 and mentally the team may have greater confidence. Why mess with a winning formula. They have won 3 games without him. If they play him and lose in game #5 Bunting will be blamed and scapegoated by fans and who knows who else. He will unfairly shoulder the blame. If they play him and win fine. But to me the greater risk is to play him. If the Leafs advance bring him back for Game #1 vs. Florida/Boston and start a new.

Justin Holl is on the ice for all Tampa PP, thats partly why 11 goals against. Bunting is one of the worst Leafs as a defensive player, just look at the stats. He is one of the most penalized, we can't afford to put a desperate Tampa team on the PP anymore than we have to. He also gives Tampa that energy to play harder, that revenge energy, although, that could cause them to take more penalties, but they are crafty, I doubt it, they have more composure than Bunting. Let him get in the next series if we make it to the second round.

Bunting is a healthy scratch for Game 5 - and he should be. He can't control his emotions, Tampa will target him and he has a bad reputation among the refs. On any borderline play, Bunting will get called. Last thing we need is Bunting in the box as Tampa scores on PP

I usually agree with your takes but Bunting does NOT deserve to play the rest of the series.

I don't think bunting is in for game 5. Win or lose, he is back the game after. This is his punishment from Keefe.

Bunting is going to have an opportunity to draw a TON of penalties or GIVE us a ton of penalties. You just know Tampa is going to come for him, its up to him whether he keeps it levelheaded or acts like a clown and loses the game for us.

Keep Bunting where he is, that's the smart call. It'll upset the balance bringing him back. My preference would be to see the team continue to be successful without him.......we can talk about how much money he'd command next year, or where he possibly plays in that team (bottom six at 2.5m at most on his recent escapades). He's not far off what we need him to be.......the needless penalties need to disappear though, they've cost him 2million a year on his next contract. If he plays in the bottom six, they'll target him..... penalties will come, and that'd be just what the opposition want.

Shots from the point with traffic in front are a problem for every goalie. It's hardly a revolutionary strategy.

This will be The Greatest Choke In All Of Sports History - should this Leafs core find a way to lose this series to Tampa. Marner, Reilly, Leafs Goaltending & Matthews are playing well. Hope Leafs get to play Bruins. But all Tampa has to do is win the next 9 periods & they have done that before.
