@@zaratomsart You're welcome! One of my biggest issues is getting the sketch down so that it's in proportion. Do you use the grid method or trace? I finally bought a light box. It would take forever to draw freehand, but it feels like cheating.

Great realism. I would like to know just how long I should expect to spend on doing just this part of your drawing? I only spend 10-15 minutes at a time actually drawing but I spend in total about an hour on my small sketches, is this time too short?

Thank you. This whole portrait, including the background took about 11 hours. This level of realism requires many layers which increases the length of time each drawing takes. If you finish your drawing and feel you'd like more realism then setting time limits may help so for instance just the eye and fur around the eye like in this video all in all probably took about 2.5 hours. Just for that section so if you finish something like that in 15 minute say to yourself you have 1 hour. If you think it's finished after 15 minutes but want more depth, keep layering. Calling things finished to soon can be easily done but more layers and refining values and contrast can make such a big difference 🥰

Thank you. That fur texture would be a combination of clumps of fur and individual hairs so I would work on each layer separately. Work from what is closest to the skin first and build up. Using a combination of techniques I show in the Highland Cow for the clumped fur texture and then maybe the Rough Collie for longer, wispier strands you could then get the look of Irish Wolfhound fur? I have tutorials of both here on KZread =)
