I agree with you, Father Casey. If you have a vow of chastity, sexual orientation or preference no longer matters.

The only problem with that is when men join the priesthood BECAUSE they’re homosexual so that they can live their lifestyle with other priests in secret. A lot of men become priests for the wrong reasons, that being one of them. This isn’t to say being gay is wrong, but being a priest to live a secret gay life rather than serve God is.
I'm a fan of Ascension Presents and am so, so glad KZread suggested your channel. I'm excited to show my teenage sons this. I wouldn't be surprised if one of them chose a similar life. 😊.

Yes, I understand. It was a general statement, and generally, comparing our two lives, it's true. While not the EXACT same, the point is that your life has a lot more stability and regularity than ours does.
God bless you Bro. Casey! So young yet so full of the love of the Lord. May God pour out all His blessings upon you and your vocation and keep you safe wherever HE needs you to go.
Thanks br , you inspire me not being ashamed of who you are, and always wearing the habit, spread the Word of God, be blessed
Brother Casey, thank you. I want to tell you that I thoroughly enjoy your videos and teachings. I grew up without organized religion, therefore it is a struggle with said structure. I find solace in the Lord through your videos. God bless and thank you!!!
Inspiring as always I believe you that when you say We are useless without sleep😂
Hi, Br. Casey! I'm a young man from Brazil and I'm discerning if I will enter the Franciscan life. And I want to say that your channel helps me a lot to reflect on my vocation and on this life that I intend to adhere to. Thank you very much! And pray for me and for my vocation, please.

Fr Casey I love your videos. Thank you for the effort you put into these. It’s nice to see what the life of a friar is like. Keep up the great work!
I have seen this written in the comments below, but you are amazing. Once again you give me hope for our church
Obedience was always the most difficult vow, when I resided in an Orthodox monastery. Funny that we can dwell on that, while in a community, but when we return to The World, it exists in our work, school, and just about anything else that functions well in a society. Monasticism just offers more time to reflect on it, as an actual practice, while there can be so many distractions in lay life, to counter. It always seemed to be the greatest struggle, in every monastery I lived in or visited, which certainly shocks folks, when they assume chastity.
I honestly love you, you're a true man of God, and you inspire me to be a better Catholic each day!
God bless you Brother Casey!
Love that you wear the habit in public. I think the lack of VISUAL presence is a loss to our Church.
You totally inspire me. Thank you so much.🥰
This is a lovely video, Thank you! :-) It was so nice hearing you answering these questions, I must say, I envy you... Maybe in another life I chose this way.. :-) Keep up the good work and lots of love from far Israel :-)
Hi, Bro. Casey! Just wanted to say I enjoy your videos and listening to you. You are an inspiration to many people. Keep up the great work! BTW, what are some of your favorite novels....if you like to read.

I’m a brand new Catholic and your videos were a great source of encouragement during RCIA! They’re still an encouragement! My question is one I’m sure you’ve addressed in a previous video that I simply missed. If that’s the case, please forgive... Did you ever consider becoming a monk before discerning your call to be a Franciscan?

If you have someone asking you about your sexual orientation, they might be looking for someone safe to disclose a problem with their own sexuality. My grandson in the past year came out as transgender. I have read a lot about it but in terms of the church it feels like all I know is rejection. I’d like to talk to someone who has some life experience. I know in my heart I could never reject him.
Hello Father Casey, I'm a big fan of your content and you're one of my main aspirants for Religious Life. I hope to enter Postulancy with the OFM in Oxford, Uk ( God willing) after university in two years time, please keep me in your prayers as I do with you. One question: Are you particularly studious? What tips could you give me to become less distracted? God bless
Excellent questions asked.
Curious do you have a video about bible translations? Which do you prefer? My favourite is RSV2CE.
You mentioned that you keep those who ask for prayers in your prayers everyday, How do you do that? I think that if I tell someone I will pray for them, I need to pray for them by name. This becomes challenging as I cannot always remember everyone' s name when I am praying.

What an inspiring video.
I'll jump on that (the prayer). Could you pray for strength of will? I want to change my ways so I stop disobeying the Lord but my will power is lacking. I also want to read the Bible from top to bottom but don't know how to plan it etc. Any advice? Thank you!

Do you get stigma for being a Catholic at university?
Hi Brother Casey - I always wanted to ask, are there big differences between studying for the priesthood in the Catholic Church and other denominations? I do know it is a very long time, seven years right? I was told that Jesuits actually have longer, eight or nine years. Why such a long period? My cousin studied for the Church of England priesthood in Westcott House in Cambridge in England. He spent two years in theological training, with the final year being ordained a deacon and placed in a parish for pastoral training. He was ordained to the priesthood at the end of his third year in 2015. Is this a big difference to your training? Thank you.
@BreakingInTheHabit
5 жыл бұрын
Yes, it seems that Catholic priests require a lot more education than other denominations. Part of this is because we see ordination as having a permanent character with certain duties reserved exclusively to them. This requires that they be a bit more trained on a breadth of issues since it is sort of our duty to preserve the faith. Also, the Catholic Church has tended to be much more on the intellectual side of things compared to some Protestant denominations, so that probably plays into it as well.
@johnking5174

Do you see a benefit of having a long training period? Do you go back to study even when you are ordained? I know our local "vicar" who has been ordained since 1992 took a year off on "study leave" where he went to Cranmer Hall College for further studies. I am always interested in the study aspect of religious priesthoods. Being from a mixed marriage family I know a bit about Catholic seminary as well as Anglican, as I was brought up mostly in the Anglican tradition of my father. Your videos are a joy to watch, and it is very kind of you to interact too.

I think a long period is helpful to integrate what we need, both intellectually and socially, but I might tweak the study a bit. No major changes, as I think the program is pretty good.

Hi,Father Casey, I have a question to ask. Do you know about a christian group called Grace Mercy order? A friar named Elias and a Sister named Lucia claimed that they are the visionaries of Virgin Mary, Jesus Christ and St.Joseph,but they are not catholic . I keep seeinf their videos on youtube and I just feel confused coz'they seemed like very religious and humble people. So what do you say about them and should I watch their apparition videos ? Maybe you will never see this comment,but still Thank you Father, for your sharing , I will always pray for you .

I call the ladies voice in my sat-nav Veronica, there have been many times that she has soothed my troubled mind and comforted me when I felt lost. There was a period in my life that I was 'one of those protestants' who could not use the word 'father' for a priest. I had a long chat with a Roman Catholic priest who said (in his opinion) that a priest who was offended by someone using the wrong title for him needed to look at himself. Offence can be taken when it is not intended, but a true servant is impossible to give offence to. Now that Brother Casey is ordained, I would have no problem calling him 'Father', even though I am old enough to be his dad.
One reason people may ask your sexuality is to know if you are likely to be an easy person to talk to about how lgbt identities and faith interact. It's really scary to talk about that stuff with a priest if you don't know how accepting they are.
I love you brother

When you are angry or frustrated with God, how do you deal with it?

I always have this question on my head. How much should we make a cross sign when attending the mass? Cos i always make about 18-20 cross
@BreakingInTheHabit
5 жыл бұрын
Officially, there are only two times in the rite: at the beginning and at the end. There is room for private devotion, but one of the principles of the mass is that there not be unnecessary redundancy of signs. If we do something too much, it loses its significance.

I don't know but suspect that person would have an easier time with Jesuits rather than Franciscans. My understanding is every Jesuit has to have two doctorates before being ordained; one in theology and one in a field of his choice (which I guess could include dentistry). But if this person felt a calling to the Franciscan charism, he should talk with them about it.

Each Franciscan community commits itself in unique way to living out one of the many charisms exemplified in the life of Saint Francis. This is done in part in the spirit of discernment for doing “what is yours to do,” and also to celebrate the reality that Francis was a very complex and nuanced man, even in his all-encompassing zeal to follow the Gospel literally and uncompromisingly. Some Franciscan communities, such as the Conventuals, devote themselves to a more monastically-inspired life of communal prayer and study. Others, like the Capuchins, seek to honor more closely the original spirit of poverty and simplicity that St Francis himself preferred. There are also many third-order communities of religious which form their lifestyle around the Franciscan Rule while not being directly affiliated with the original First Order. Among these include communities with a focus on contemplation, sacraments, teaching, and other forms of evangelical life and service. And of course we can’t forget the Second Order of Poor Clares who follow the Franciscan life in women’s convent communities! As distinct and diverse as all of these groups are, it is important to remember that they all work as components of a “Franciscan family” united by common identity and the Spirit in a love for God and his people throughout the world.
Now that the Padres have brought back the Friar mascot, expect a little bit of those comments now!

What happens if we pray for, what God doesn't want to give us... will he hear our prayer or fulfil his wish?
@BreakingInTheHabit
5 жыл бұрын
Well I think it requires that we approach prayer in the proper way. While we petition God (ask for things) we are not doing so as "wishes" as if we were approaching a genie. We go to God not to convince God to be more like us but so that we can be more like God. Therefore, when we shouldn't ask for anything or everything we desire, but for the things that bring us closer in union with God, promote a just society, and love one another. If we ask for a new car because we want to impress a friend, God is likely not going to answer that prayer; but if we ask God for transportation so that we can get to work and provide for our family, that is something that God will respond to.
Haven't watched the video yet, but I'm going to guess #1 is, 'do you sleep in that?'
Not a really serious question but what is your favorite color

Chastity hehe. Omg!!!! I cant even imagine it. But say you find a girl so devine as you are, cant you still fall in love maybe go on your crusade to salvage people together?
So how do you fight sexual urges ?? I would go insane
Br. Casey, have heard two different answer's from two Catholic priests on the internet. Self-masturbation? sin or notsin.
@BreakingInTheHabit
5 жыл бұрын
As I said with question 2, any act that is not both unitive and open to procreation is immoral. Masturbation nether brings people together nor is it open to new life because it takes the very powerful sexual act and diminishes it to personal pleasure. When done with pornography, there is an added layer of immorality as the pornography industry is fraught with issues of injustice and abuse, and watching it supports that industry. Masturbation is never a "good" in the moral sense. For this reason, the Church defines it as sinful. But like all sins, one's culpability is determined by the act itself, the intention, and the situation. For those who are dealing with addiction, very young and full of hormones, going through a period of depression, or other things like this, one's culpability might be lower than, say, a middle-aged married man who fully understands what he's doing and does so anyway, causing problems for him and his marriage. For more information, here is what the catechism says: www.vatican.va/archive/ccc_css/archive/catechism/p3s2c2a6.htm
Nit picking here, but "seeking to procreate"? It's ok to want to space children, we just have to do it morally. This is soooo misunderstood. Holy families come in all sizes. I think the phrase "open to life" is a bit more accurate, although isn't perfect.
Why are you called brother and not father ?
Not Girlfriends but i am sure you could have good friends or is this also not possible.
