- Why do priests kiss the altar?
And more ...
Fr. Mike is visiting St. Charles Seminary to give a talk on evangelization and new media. The talk will be posted on Ascension Presents very soon. So stay tuned to catch it.

I call myself "a catholic converted to catholicism" 😄 This works for me so maybe for you too: try to know more about catholicism by using youtube. Ex. following this channel or others (i follow channels in spanish because that is my mother tongue so sorry for not giving you some) and ask God guide you while you are knowing catholicism. Then you could go to the RCIA program in a church close to your home. After that, make your decision. God bless you 😊 Ps. About the RCIA program: in my country we are mostly catholic ( Colombia- South America) so we dont have the program or maybe we have it but it is not that common. But I was living in Canada last year and every church's newspaper invited people to the program. Now I am curious about it because I think it must be great. An other beautiful thing i discovered in Canada is how seriously they take catholicism and how active they are in every parrish. My convertion was there and I went to many churchs to the mass (I discovered the real meaning of the mass many years ago, thanks God). I am not saying all this to convert you, just because i wanted to share my beautiful experience. God bless you 😊

The collar is just an old fashioned collar that was standard in Europe a few centuries ago, so when it started out it was also to do with simplicity & modesty but it's just fallen out of normality since. Some clerical shirts have the modern triangular collars but now the old style has become a cultural signal that the wearer is an ordained priest so most keep the old collar! ♡

I was seriously considering becoming a priest for several years. It depends on the order you join (diocesan, missionary, etc.) In general, it can take anywhere from 6-12 years to become a priest. Typically they start off by taking classes in theology and philosophy and then get into church doctrine and the practicalities of becoming a priest. Hope that helps!

When my younger kids were little, they got into an argument at Mass. Here was a 4 year old and a 3 year old arguing whether a priest was in persona Christi when vested or all the time. "He's a priest, his name is Father, and he comes to our school," said the 4 year old. "His name is God, but he's only God when he wears the tablecloth. All the other times, then he's Father," the 3 year old retorted. As they are 21 and 19 now, I'm sure they have a better grasp on the subject.

My son has always been in private catholic schools. I had a hell of a time to get any priest to do the memorial service when my husband died last year. My son is having a hard time applying to colleges since now I am a widow. I had no help from anybody. Not even one person helped me since my husband died! One prayer for us is all I ask.

Thank you for being so approachable. There's a priest at my parish who teaches adult catechism and he encourages questions - even silly ones - and it's made a huge difference to the class. A number of "cradle" believers have started to attend the class, just to learn more about this faith they grew up in. It's beautiful!!

Hi Alexandra, some of these replies I didn't feel expressed God's mercy as well as they could've, so I thought I'd post my own :) I have zero clue on your own situation or if you ask purely speculatively, but I just want you to know children conceived in any situation are beautiful and reflect the Glory of God. Though intercourse is reserved for marriage, God doesn't love moms who got pregnant outside of marriage any less than when they were virgins. He's so good, and He is always eager to forgive in the Sacrament of Reconciliation... and thank goodness for that, because God knows how much I need His mercy :) I just wanted to make sure it's clear that shaming unmarried moms, post-abortive parents and dads, and children born from wedlock has no place in the Church. We want them to find healing and forgiveness in the home that belongs to them, the Catholic Church :) Wishing you all the best!

I'd love to hear more about priests and celibacy... I've heard that some parts of the priesthood are discipline (celibate) that could be altered without doctrinal change, while other aspects are inherent to the office of priesthood (Catholic, male) and would take a change in the Catechism to shift. I'd love to know more about this, especially in light of the Amazon Synod!
