My perfect audio setup right now is the BEACN Mic ($280) plus a Stream Deck + ($200). What are your thoughts on $480 for a god tier audio setup?

I wanted to love the BEACN, I gave it a full month and had nothing but issues. If I adjusted the mic position and even looked at the usb cable it would disconnect causing the software to crash. The mixing software itself didn't need help because it crashed constantly anyway, losing settings, assignments, etc. The levels were great on stream but if I recorded separate stems for editing they would be either super quiet or way too loud, no matter what the settings in BEACN mix or OBS said. Even their discord didn't help, multiple questions to their team went unanswered. That all said: BEACN EQ is the best I've ever seen. I would pay the full price of the mic just to use their EQ, Noise Gate, and Compressor as a VST on my wave 3.

I remember when the BEACN mic came out and the audio quality just wasn't competitive with the SM7B and above tier of mics, so I just wrote it off.

For 99.9% of people that's incredible value (and more than most people need). For regular streaming and content creation that isn't "audiophile", it can't be beat. In fact, most microphone comparisons all sound very similar to me or even if they're different, they're both "good enough". I get super annoyed when someone does mic comparisons and some commenter is like "that one sounds too thin".

I picked up the Stream Deck + a few weeks ago, primarily because of the audio potential with the current setup I already have. What an absolute gamechanger! I discovered that the more convoluted your initial setup, there's a bit of a learning curve with the WaveLink software/setup. But it's such an incredibly powerful system, especially for creators. I love being able to isolate specific apps and entire portions of my audio setup for "my ears only", and sending a completely separate signal out to a stream, all through software. There are definitely some additional features/functions that I would like Elgato to add into the Stream Deck +, specifically with the knobs/touchscreen capabilities, but it is a massive upgrade to my system, providing me with way more control and fine-tuning. I'm actually just now starting to dive into some of the other ways the Stream Deck + can be used across all kinds of software. Definitely worth the purchase (as long as you're planning on using it to its fullest potential, otherwise, stick with a normal Stream Deck).

I currently run the Go XLR and Shure Sm7b and love the set up but I am highly interested in the announcement of the Roland Bridge Cast. It LOOKS like it has everything I'm looking for. The proper inputs and on board controls of the Go XLR coupled with the ability to have sub-mixes the way Wave Link does. Can't wait until reviews and impressions of that device start hitting.

Your videos always hit home, I am the tech manager for a twitch streamer, and I now have a closet full of audio gear like yourself. Went from using a Yamaha MG06 mixer, to a Creative SB K+, to the GOXLR mini, to the Beacon Mix, and now we have settled on the Wave XLR. Microphones we have gone through from the Blue Yetti, Audio-Technica AT2020, The Rode Pod Mic, the Shure MV7X, the Beacn Mic and finally have settled on the Elgato Wave DX. Each one having their Pro's & Cons. So far the Elgato has beaten them all in one major major category, simplicity and ease of use. I dont mind playing around with the audio gear. But my wife who is actually doing the streaming just wants the equipment to work, and work easy. Between the Stream Deck, and the Wave hardware, there is no extra software/drivers need for an extra mic, or mixer its all under the same simple to use software. Then ontop of all of that when you add the corsair devices that also integrate seamlessly into the Elgato software you start getting this weird melting pot for a streamer ecosystem.

Stream Deck Plus seems like a buy I’ll be making soon. I love my OG Stream Deck, and thanks to a few plug-ins I can control all of my audio on it for any active app in Windows, but being able to swap app profiles and the physical knobs seems huge. Honestly I’d like to have the 6 extra buttons and would probably run the Plus right along side my OG for the added functionality. Great vid!

I've been using a Blue Yeti microphone for the last seven years, and added some generic 3xAux mixer a couple years ago, and it's served me well, but I'm definitely thinking about upgrading to a BEACN microphone with an Elgato Stream Deck +. The only thing that keeps me from going with the Stream Deck + is that I'm a console gamer primarily, and right now I have my microphone's headphone jack, my gaming monitor's headphone jack, and my PC's headphone jack going into my aux mixer, and I'm not sure if I could substitute the Stream Deck for my aux mixer and get the same effect. Maybe I could plug the line out of the aux mixer into my PC's line-in and control that through the Stream Deck +? But I would rather just have one device.

I love your presentation, so clear and lighthearted yet intelligent and informative, so thank you for that. You asked if there was any video we'd like you to do. Well, my son wants to start role-playing, but we have never used a mic, except the webcam mic for multiplayer games, and obviously for RP you need a clearer voice than a webcam. I wonder if you could do a video for complete novices for role-playing and/or streaming, which shows you all the main basics, like - what to connect to where - - for instance, I saw someone say never use a USB-C cable conversion to USB, because the PC could overcharge the device, an/or cause complications - - what you need a stream deck for and how to set it up - possible positions for your mic to avoid keyboard/background noise, especially with regard to dynamic v condenser (how important is a boom arm) - maybe the above is all too much because of all the choices leading to differences in set up - so maybe actually give two example setups that someone who doesn't want to spend 50 hours researching can say, I can start off with that (at own risk of course). Basically, the real baby stuff.

I got a goxlr mini in 2022 and generally like it. I tried a rodecaster pro 2 and found a particular issue with my setup that it didn’t address: Instead of headphones I pipe my sound into an audio receiver. The goxlr lets me drop the mic from the entire mix going to the headphone jack while keeping it in the broadcast stream. I think the Rodecaster wants you to hook up separate monitor speakers instead? i currently use the quadcast from hyperx and steelseries gg software to split audio and effects on my mic, i seitched to this because voicemeter was giving me a hard time, and when unify came out, it didnt like my quadcast(this was before they came out saying they didnt support other mics, and then made the software free) that beacn mic do look promising though.. i was thinking of getting a sm7b, but if the beacn mic has processing and whatnot built in i might just get that 🤔

My issue is that I want something that's as intuitive and has useful features like the goxlr and its ability to control the levels of literally any audio source, but also has enough inputs for 1-2 xlr mics and a guitar instrument input so I can play amp Sims and record riffs, but also control my studio monitors. It's guitar that makes this so complicated. Is the rodecaster my only option? I know I could get a Yamaha mixer or a focusrite or volt, but they don't have the streaming features. Is the RodeCaster Pro 2 or Duo basically my only option that will give me the best of both worlds? Or can I run a goxlr AND a focusrite scarlett for the guitar? I've Googled this stuff extensively and Idk what the best solution for me is. Any advice is much appreciated. I've figured everything else out on my own, but audio is a headache

The only thing I don’t like about the Wave link software is that every time it gets an update my mic EQ just completely resets and is removed and sometimes the channels assigned (voice chat, browser etc) are not correct anymore.

I've gone in the opposite direction in 2022. I've replaced my Beacn Mix Create with a GoXLR Mini. I had big problems with the sound from the microphone when using Beacn. My viewers complained of a hollow, metallic sound, like I was talking into a bucket or something. I did a lot of research, updated software, firmware etc. Nothing helped. In the end I sold the Beacn and bought the GoXLR Mini + Shure MV7 and I am now delighted with the sound setup.

Thank you for the great video! I'm actually not streaming or creating videos, but I'm thinking of getting the Roland Bridge Cast. Primarily for two things: 1. Microphone & Headphones through one interface. 2. Easy controlling the volume channels I use the most (game, Discord, microphone) Would love to hear your thoughts about the Roland Bridge Cast. 🙃

Currently still using a GoXLR mini, as I need console audio input. I'm tempted to switch to something else since the GoXLR mini has this thing where it loses connection when running a very demanding game. Maybe it's a motherboard or platform issue, as it doesn't matter which USB port is used, and has happened with a different motherboard too. So I've been looking at the Beacn Mix products + an standard audio interface that allows me to pipe in my console to my headphones.

Its great my only problem is that when I want to record games using shadowplay I can only record my game and mic audio it doesn't seem to select my discord audio. On stream it works fine I just think I've selected the wrong audio input for shadowplay but yeah its my first mic with build in software so its to expected that I had some struggels 😅

My audio chain: RE-20 > cloudlifter > dbx 286s > dbx 266xs > SSL 2 > PC < Beacon Mix Create. I bought the Elgato version, ready to give up on Beacon due to software headaches. Then right after I bought the elgato competitor, Beacon released two big updates back to back that squashed all bugs I had AND added more features / improved routing. So I am still using the Beacon for now. I am thinking of getting a Lewitt Connect 6 to replace the SSL 2 and both dbx strips. I got the strips because I hate plug-in lag, but onboard DSP is becoming much more of a thing, so hardware processing will become unnecessary after 2023 for vast majority of creators.

Hi. Have the sm7b and the dbx286s. Want to ask if I need a cloudlifter or is the gain from the dbx enough to run the sm7b. It runs in a ur22c from Steinberg. Thx for answering

@@kitchenzombie8974 don’t think you will need a cloudlifter between the gain of dbx and the ur22c. I did not need the cloudlifter, but wanted to keep my gain down across the whole chain and the cloudlifter allowed me to do that. Didn’t want to have the gain dial up very high across most of the hardware.

My current setup is: SM7b -> cloudlifter -> analog mixer (rescued Peavy MD IIIB) -> (aux out) -> compressor (Pro VLA II) -> "limiter" (Pro VLA II channel 2 just settings to act as a makeshift limiter) -> EQ (Ashly GQX 3102) -> (Aux return and mixed to main out) -> ADC (PreSonus Audiobox USB96) -> Wave Link (controlled with Stream Deck+). >_> it is a bit.... umm... ya.... It definitely evolved with parts being added, but was a huge upgrade from the Blue Yeti (second notable mic I used). About to move abroad for a new job for a year+, so I'm debating on what to sell, store, and (re)buy when I move I personally love the analog outboard equipment and having a physical mixer with faders, but it is obviously a bit excessive for streaming. Those parts will likely be relegated solely to the production studio room whenever I find a place to settle and actually start kicking that business off. Current revamp idea for when I move is: SM7B -> cloudlifter -> ADC (Presonus) -> Wave Link. I think this will be fine for 99% of what I do since the Wave Link gives me VST control over everything. My only real "concern" would be not having a compressor/limiter before the ADC and clipping there before it can hit any VSTs. But this is stuff I'll have to play around with once I'm there X"D

Well, for me as a gamer, I started with the Elgato Wave:3 and a regular StreamDeck. But my main purpose was to control the different audio channels and I switched to the AverMedia LIVE STREAMER AX310 Nexus plus a Rode Podmic. This was almost perfect for me, but people said that my previous mic (the Wave) sounded better than my PodMic.... (It was probably the fault of my technical incomprehension). Then Elgato released the Streamdeck+, and I decided to switch back. So now I use the Wave:3 and the StreamDeck+ for control. To be honest, I liked the Nexus better for using an audio controller/interface. But now stuck in the Elagato ecosystem.... well, it all works pretty well!

Though I'd love to get a Beacn (I'm from Europe and importing taxes + shipping make it way more expensive), I'm still rocking my EQ'd OG Blue Yeti. It does the work, and that's it. Another topic I haven't seen anyone talk about and I consider is equally important is microphone arms. I'm using a chinese one that I can only set from behind my desk and it's not only too short, but also uncomfortable with a double monitor setup and it's already losing strength. There are any more versatile and of higher quality than any chinese arm? Which ones are you using? I'd love to hear about that!

The thing people have to remember though is that some stuff is easy to use with 2 PCs some arent like for example AVerMedia Live Streamer Nexus Line out by Defualt is Audience Mix which you plug into the other PC and choose Mic In for that on the Streaming PC but there is also you still have to use something like a Capture for it to Grab the Gameplay still just not the Audio and on the Rodecaster Pro II USB C can just plug & Play into the Streaming PC VIa USB and choose Rodecaster Pro II as the Video Capture Device

I have the GoXLR mini and Rode PodMic. Im overall pretty happy with the setupp, but i do with the GoXLR had submixes (and wish it turned off the LED's when the PC was off). I'd love to have the dual USB option the Rode Caster 2 has, but i dont need the other 3 inputs (tho the multiple outputs would be handy). I really dont want to be sucked into Elgato's eco system (and to be honest, i dont like thier Wave software).. I've been testing their Cam at home and keeps randomly disconnecting from my computer.. (Havent figured out why yet) and ive had a hell of a time trying to get it work with OBS. and i still say the SM7B is WAAY overkill (and way overhyped) for streamers, and not at all necessary (in fact the beacon mic you mentioned sounds like its just as good AND easier to use, AND CHEAPER).

I'm back on the workforce. Time to look into what expensive audio gear I can buy that I won't ever actually use. Also, one thing to point out in regards to the Elgato stuff...Does the MicrophoneFX input not work for you\? Because, as far as I was aware, that input was intended to be used with chat programs so that your microphone had the VST's active during VOIP.
