Well... Filmmaker's Kit is still the KING 👑 in an out of line of sight situation. This is something that has not been improved in almost the last decade. Is this something, or what ? Nevertheless, Wireless PRO is an astonishing piece of technology. Congratulations to RODE for making it happen in an affordable pricing. They deserve all the credit.

great review! 👏 Your future accessories ideas are very good, fully agree! I'm actually thinking to make some 3D Printed mods for it, i.e. a bigger case, in which you can plug the transmitters with the Lavs attached + all other accessories. But this is stretching it too much into Pro gear and might be better just getting Pro gear at that point.

I hope I can turn off that new record-on record-off button. It’s gonna get tapped by mistake at some point. You’re right about the finish, when wearing it on a t-shirt I don’t really want it shining and taking attention (plus that new big record light).

I use black washi tape on my Wireless Go II for that shiny surface as well. Way less noticeable if you’re wearing it with their magnet kit. It’s not ideal, but if you plan on keeping it fully covered at all times, you could try to use a really light sandpaper to create some texture for the gaff tape to better grab onto it. Might not slip off as easily. But I’m with you, a matte texture on those would have been nice on the “Pro” model.

The 'every 4 hours' timecode jam will be because the timing crystals in most cameras can vary by a field (half a frame on 25/30 fps cameras) every 30 mins - the Rode devices themselves might be more accurate but this re-jamming will be because of the variance in cameras.

  • @kovafilms

I know haha no sound test but for good reason. He mentioned It a little bit. He said he did wish they upgraded the actual onboard mics for these especially being the "pro" version but was disappointed they are the same from previous versions. You don't get higher audio quality with the bit rate of the file. 32 bit just has more information, so in post, you can bring up quiet sources without bringing up a high noise floor. And on the opposite end, if the source audio is too hit and distorted. It's like dynamic range on a camera or even the data speed which it records at. More information, more flexibility in post.

It’s great, that you can now directly copy the files from the devices. On the Wireless Go II, you always had to use the Rode Central app in the same version, than the transmitters, or you have to format the devices first, which is fatal, when you want to backup the files first…

As always great first impressions/review video! But I do have a question: can the receiver change the gain of the transmitters individually? Like, if I want to have one at -12 and the other at -6? And I understand that with 32 bit float probably negates this need but still.. less editing is less editing.

I would absolutely love if in future firmware you could jam-sync the timecode of the receiver from an external source. It sounded like in the Q&A that they are working on that. I've tried unsuccessfully to jam the TC of my Atomos (Timecode systems) One, using the rode as the master. In a perfect world you could slave multiple Rode kits to a master TC generator via RF or BlueTooth (at the least)

i might need to get this for filming weddings. I currently use Tascam DR10L for weddings, and for my commercial/corporate/interview gigs I use the Sennheiser G4. But it would be kindof nice to monitor audio during a wedding (BUT also even if audio cut out, it's not like I can go stop the wedding ceremony to fix anything lol so maybe it's best I don't monitor and continue with my Tascams). But I do love my Sennheiser G4 for corporate work and monitoring audio on it, I wish they could record a backup track on the transmitter like these. Anyways these look cool.

I've been using my Rode Videomic NTG as an input to one of the Rode Wireless Go II transmitters as a wireless boom mic set up for about a year now. After seeing the new Comica VM30 shotgun mic being sold as a way to do exactly that I was kinda expecting the next Rode wireless mic system to include it. Or maybe even just tease it as a future option. I love the idea of upgrading to 32 bit float and better controls on board and screw on lav connectors, but the price is a little above what I was expecting. Also, you stated it was $499, but both rode and B&H have it listed for $399.

At the moment I use the Sony F2 for 32 bit audio and the Wireless Go for better camera audio, but I often forgo the latter because it would be a hassle to hide two lav mics on my person. This would give me everything I want and a great second mic for interviews. And it's not nearly as expensive as I thought it would be. Wow, just wow!

Gr8 review! 1. Any thoughts on battery life? My Go II receiver randomly cuts off the power after maybe 18 months of usage. 2. Did you notice any of the occasionally hissing noise that the prev model has? Cheers!

Nice. While I like the addition of 32 bit, timecode and a locking connector, for a $100 less the Lark Max has every other features with a better case, build material and touch screen.

Good review. The part I found funny is on 14 minutes, where you suggest a new device. I think it was just a matter of asking Rode for a TC-1 Deity unit for these mics. LOL! If they can let us receive timecode in the Rode transmitter units, this will make very productive timecode and will let us even have more mics on the field with the same timecode., Timecode will be usable in short shoots with only one camera for now. I have been using it in some sports jobs the Hollyland marks and the menus are awesome and the quality build is the best. The 32-bit float is the attractive part of these units.

If I understand it correctly, there is no option to jam sync the rode time code from an external source. This makes the great addition of timecode kind of limited for bigger applications. It would be nice if you could jam sync the transmitters trough the input jack, imo this could be done with a software update.

I'm curious to know how sensitive the mic is on the transmitters. I've heard a lot of distortion coming from the mics themselves and not the files (which is taken care of by 32 bit).

@@beccamitchell05 Well, I wasn’t planning to dig deeply into these since I’m a big fan of my DJI mics. It just reminds me about how I also watch a ton of reviews about smartphones and only about 1% cares about actual sound quality in the calls (which a mobile is still being used for a few times a year ;)). This however is without doubt the main function. If these sounds greater than my DJI mics I might be interested. The rest is specs.

After listening to the improvements section, I am finding many of the requests being beyond the price point. Also many of the features being asked for about audio routing and muxing can be done using multitrack recorders or similar. The adapter cables are already available from other companies, quite easily. Many of the features you are calling out are available from other brands already, but at a higher price. Given the target market and price for the products, I think the package is pretty much nailing it.

What makes these any better than the DJI option? It seems like most of the changes made were to catch up to the DJI variant. But for me personally I see the DJIs as the better option still (I don't use time code at work so that's not necessary for me) because they have both an output for camera and headphones on the receiver, as well as pins to charge off of in the case rather than using the USB port. The touch screen for me is way easier to use than navigating with buttons plus all settings can be changed on the receiver itself. Finally the mag is built into the clip on the DJIs so no need to add an extra attachment on to use the magnet. Sorry for the long post. This isn't supposed to be a rant but I'm just curious why anyone might choose these over the the competition.

I have the DJI and I love it.....But I have to admit this Rode system has a "Loud" limiter. NO peaking no matter how loud you shout....To me that's the only thing they have on the DJI...but im not trading in my DJI tho...Its smaller and look so much more professional......

Thanks for the review. Regarding range test. I’ve been using the Go2’s since release. The range is good, BUT at a wedding…a problem arises. Pre-ceremony testing vs. during ceremony, I experience unreliability. My best guess…an abundance of mobile phones, all competing for space on the 2.4ghz bandwidth, causing interference. Have you had this issue? Do you know of any testing that might confirm my theory? Since the Pro’s also operate on 2.4ghz, will they have the same issue? My Sennheiser G4’s don’t suffer this, as they’re UHF. But I just can’t give up the functionality of the Rode Go’s, and often just rely on the on-board recording in post. Also, do you know if we could transmit/record split channels, while sending TC via USB to the Sony FX3?
