I would guess that the name of the released criminal is probably a name given by spiritual parents. Names like that were quite common in that time. This man barrabbus was released because they wanted to release one of the accused and Jesus’ accusers wanted him to killed, therefore they picked one of the other criminals to be released.

I really love this ministry, and more importantly I know Christ does as well. So many apologetics ministries barely mention the Gospel or use the Bible to base their worldview. It's like a lot of ministries are embarrassed to use God's Word in a debate. I'm thankful for Answers In Genesis. This ministry is a bold witness for Christ.

the reason apologists avoid using their texts in debates against people outside Christianity is because the bible is an objectively unverifiable source. from my point of view as an atheist, thats the equivalent of telling me that unicorns exist because you have a book that says unicorns exist, and you say that the fact that the book says its true means that it counts as solid verifiable evidence.

@@kasioedits I'm not going to debate in a comment section. The one thing I will state, God's Word is still true whether everyone believes it or no one believes it. Our failure to honor God doesn't negate His existence. Life is short, God gave us a conscious and He gave us the cross of Christ. Do what you will with the life God gave you, but I pray you will honor Him with it.

The problem is that too many people who call themselves Christians don't really know the Bible very well. MOST of them rarely even bother to READ it. A lot of them are second-hand Christians. They were raised in the Church, and told what to believe, but they were never told why to believe it. It's hard to convince others to agree with you when you have no CLUE why even YOU believe it. Mama SAID so doesn't bear much weight with someone who never MET Mama.

They all SHOUT, Science proves..... as though that's the definitive word, when it's definitely not! Both those groups have never gone beyond speculation, but are very good at using the above phrase to shut down a debate/conversation. Personally, I really like the way God works! The eruption of Mount St Helen's in 1980, was a master stroke, you should check that out. That was a REAL as well as A TIMELY EVENT. THE SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE produced just from this particular eruption, confounds all that Evolutionists or Big Bang theorists keep trying to perpetuate. Even Darwin had his doubts and he certainly mistook adaptation for evolution with his Finches! Do you never wonder how it is that the BIBLE HAS BEEN PRESERVED so perfect and intact,, over millennium? NO other book or Manuscript has! Furthermore, it's ALWAYS been top of the best seller list Year on Year? (of course that's probably not widely known since the printers and book sellers keep that fact in the dark! No point in having a best seller's list if no other Author can ever achieve top position. There's so much evidence for God around and you sound like an intelligent person so I wish you would truly question and investigate more fully, but with an open mind. Try first looking at a small book called 'Only a Carpenter'by Josh McDowell. You may find it interesting and it should set your mind to questioning too..

Unfprtunately you’re right about what you’ve said. When people don’t study the Bible, don’t look into the reasoning for what they’re told, and don’t take the time to study their own arguements, they go straight from being a Christian with a bad understanding of the Bible to an atheist with a bad understanding of the Bible.

The world spends almost no time or effort trying to debunk ANY other religion, not even Judaism. So WHY do they spend so much time trying to debunk Christianity? I think that's the important question; what makes Christianity such a THREAT to them that they feel the need to debunk US, but essentially IGNORE all other religions? Things that make you go hmmmm.🤔

The evidence is rarely the issue which is why they refute it so quickly without researching it themselves. When I have told the cynics to do this very thing, I never hear back from them. They know it’s there, they know it’s true. They also know it’s to be feared and this makes them all the more puffy chested and arrogant about it. Have you notice the way they almost shout "SCIENCE PROVES....." and also "I'm not going against the evidence of science", or something similar, then they cut off as though that's definitive; end of story. I just wish someone would return "THAT'S NOT TRUE (+/- anymore)!!!! Modern, up to date knowledge from SCIENCE i AND OTHER RESEARCH DISCIPLINES are spectacularly and positively proving the BIBLE IS FACTUALLY TRUE at every turn nowadays!

I just wish we could use our heads instead of all this let's prove this and that. How about the very fact that I can open my eyes and see is logical enough that God created us. Matter cannot make life, only God can. If you want to deny that fact, you will need to create life, and you won't. So through pure logical reasoning, it's too easy to see. Denying it because you need proof is like denying your great, great, great, great grandparents existed.

Thanks for the research and lecture. It is very timely for me. I have friends that need to hear.

I had to know about the virgin birth because I read the bible by myself and had only me and God to teach me. When I got to the new testament and received Christ I heard an argument over the virgin birth on TV, so I prayed to the Lord because I needed an answer. And the next day I read Luke, it has the most in-depth account of Christ birth. And when I read it I realized something that I had just read over before. The angel said to Mary that the Holy Spirit would come upon her and the Most High will over shadow her. Did you see what I just left out. It says the POWER of the Most High would over shadow her. So there was a transfer of power that happened where God Most High took something from Himself and put it into Mary and is how He became then the Son of God. And this is not saying that Jesus was never there before birth. Because we know that He was always with the Father, from everlasting. And this is easy to prove that the Father did this, Jesus said, "Just as the Father has life in Himself He has granted that the Son have life within Himself, so the same eternal life that was is the Father was and is the same eternal life that was put inside Mary and became the Son of God. Then Jesus said, "My Father loves Me because I lay down My life that I may take it up again", No one takes it from Me I have the power to lay it down and to take it up again". Once our soul leaves our body and our body dies we do not have the power to re-enter our body and bring it back to life again, only the Holy Spirit can do this. And this is how Christ resurrected His body. Once nailed to the cross He had to wait until all sin was poured into His fleshy body, this was a must because He had to put to death sin in His body, even though He had the eternal Spirit He had to remain in His body until the first sin that ever happened until the last sin will ever happen was poured into it. I believe this was the time of darkness that fell upon the land. And when this was finished He gave up the ghost, no one killed Jesus, as scripture says, "And with a loud cry He gave up the Ghost", the loud cry is what happens when His Spirit left its host (body) and once His Spirit was outside His body He waited until His body died, and when His body died it put to death all the sin that had been pour into it. Christ waited outside His body until it was dead and taken down from the cross, washed and wrapped and put into the tomb, and once the tomb was sealed, He then entered the tomb and re-entered His body now free of the sin that was put to death and His eternal Spirit brought His body back to life. He then descended into hell to take care of business, but now His body was completely Spirit inside and out, still of bone and flesh, but without blood because we will not need blood to keep us alive in eternity for the Spirit gives life. Jesus said to Thomas, come touch Me, feel Me see that I am flesh and bone, He never said blood or He would have been bleeding all over the place, but He was flesh and bone and could still do the things He done in His flesh such as eat. This is how God through Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit taught me.

Wow, this is heavy stuff. Indeed our LORD is patient! We will do well by calling the Good News for what it is, the Holy Bible instead of simply, the Bible!!!

Awesome, the very fact that Answers in Genesis is up and running at this time is another miracle. I love how God provides for us what we need! Such a brilliant follow up to the Mount St Helen's Eruption. I was 500 miles north in Canada at the time, but felt a mild tremor under my bare feet,; felt odd because our house was built on solid rock. Shortly after the eruption was all over the news. I only wish the Churches could produce this information that we need at this time. Especially for the younger generations and the children. LORD is a translation from the tetragrammaton which means YHWH..This is speaking of the Father the one true God which Jesus referred to all through the NT. John 17:1-5 David writes in Psalm 110:1 The LORD said to my Lord sit at My right hand until l make Your enemies a footstool. David is speaking of the Messiah, a prophecy which was fulfilled after the Father raised Him from the dead and highly exalted Him. LORD is YHWH speaking to David in the Spirit about Jesus who is David's Lord. Jesus questioned the Pharisees about this verse in Matthew 22:41-46 While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, saying, what do you think about the Christ ( Messiah)? Whose Son is He? They said to Him, the Son of David. He said to them, how then does David in the Spirit call Him Lord, saying: The LORD said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand, till l make Your enemies Your footstool? If David then calls Him Lord, how is He his Son? And no one was able to answer Him a word, nor from that day on did anyone dare question Him anymore. Peter highlights this in Acts 2:22- 38. Let us be led by the Spirit and not be deceived just as paying homage to paganism. Such as Christmas, santa, easter, eggs and rabbits. And paying homage to the worship of the sun which is founded in Babylon. Come out of Babylon My people says the true God. Every time Jesus said "I AM" He was identifying Himself as God: when Moses asked for God's name, He replied "I am Who I am" (Hebrew) or "I am Being" (Greek); in either case, part of God's name is "I AM".

He later seperated the sexes; we read about Eve being taken from Adam; both Christ our God and St Paul understood this as a seperation of both body and soul; when a man and his "other half" are married, the two halves are reunited and again become one soul. God's son is still God, that's why Arius was condemned at Nicea 1, AD 325: he said Christ was similar to God, the Virgin Mary was Christotokos (Christ bearer); Athanasius, who later was elected Pope of Alexandria and therefore chief theologian of the Orthodox Churches of the Roman Empire, said no, He was true God of True God, begotten not made, of one substance with the Father (thus Mary is Theotokos, God bearer). @@1969cmp Not sure if you realize this but there are multiple writers, who wrote about Jesus. Even the Romans wrote about the crucifixion of Jesus. One thing about God is, he gives humans free will. If he proved everything to humans, there would be no free will. If everyone knew for a 100% certainly that the Bible was true, everyone would believe in God and except Jesus as the one true savior, which would eliminate free will and faith. Although if you jus look around you, you can see so much evidence of a creator. Mandol brot set, geology, biology, astronomy. In the Bible it says, Romans 1: 26 "God gave them up to vile passions. For even women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature." 27 "Also men, leaving the natural use of women, burned in their lust for one another" The Bible was written thousands of years ago, yet it is talking about the culture of today. We have gender neutral bathrooms, transgenderism is being taught in schools and advertised nation wide. If the Bible is indeed false, how did it predict something thousands of years before it happened? One thing about the Bible is it doesn't change with every new discovery. It wasn't talking about gay people thousands of years ago, because it wasn't widely accepted by the masses, unlike it is today. Everywhere you look you see proof of what the Bible predicted. Honestly it depends how you were raised up and what you were taught as a kid. In Asia they eat dogs and bats, that is normal for them. But for people in the states it is not normal. Depending on how you're raised up, will determine what you believe. You could say, well there is so much evidence saying different, but there is also so much evidence saying it is so. It jus depends on what a person's world view is when they examine said evidence.

Its 2022 and Jesus is Still Lord!!! And Jesus will be Lord FOREVER!!!! With all the historical evidence in and out of the Church from sources for and even against Christ. With all the archeological evidence. Evidence that even atheist scholars who don't believe in Christ but acknowledge the existence of Jesus. Plus, the historical reliability of the Bible (Dead Sea Scrolls, Silver Scrolls, Rosetta Stone, Asyrian Tablets, and hundreds of other proofs and discoveries), plus the Prophetic Accuracy and Infallibility of prophetic accuracy. You have to be a fool not to believe in Christ and his sacrifice on the cross for you. The question is not if it's true, the question is why you would not receive the gift of Jesus's atoning and propitiating sacrifice on the cross for you. The Bible (God's Word which is true whether you believe it or not) says in Proverbs that the fool says in his heart there is no God (Prov 14:1). Not trying to be mean, but you have to open your heart and understanding before it is too late. Change your thinking bro.

Help me understand. So Jesus was never married and was not possible for him to marry because he could not marry a sinner. So how could Mary even though she was a virgin become impregnated by the Holy Spirit and carry Jesus because she was a sinner also?

The Bible never commands us to keep the first day of the week holy. The apostles met on the first day of the week because they were all meeting at different locations on the Sabbath.

Some of the accounts from Josephus are debatable to say the least.

The early christians met on sunday, yes, but they also met on every day of the week. Why only mention about sunday and not the other 6 days of the week?

Tim says 8 men wrote the NT. That could be right, but we don't know for sure. It could've been 9. We don't know who wrote Hebrews, although he guesses that Luke did. It doesn't matter in the grand scheme, but in the interest of accuracy, I thought I'd point that out.

Jesus was God, called the son. It was God. God so loved the world he sent himself to be crucified for us. God took that pain back with him. It is even a greater sacrifice than people think.

You're wrong about the Sabbath. It's tradition not to do business on the Sabbath hence cillections were made on the first day of the week. Just because Paul preached in Sunday meant that Sunday were to replace the Sabbath. There are no Biblical scripture to change the Sabbath

Acts 20:7 is about Shavout. Fifty days from Passover. That’s why they are worshipping on that day. Yeshua of Nazareth died on Passover and the Holy Spirit was deliver on Shavout. 1 Corinthians 16:2- of course on the first day of the week they would be being to fill their store houses, they used up all their reserves on Shabbat because they couldn’t work. This doesn’t negate the authority of the Messiah, it only lends more credence being authenticated by the prophecies of the Old Testament.

The Christ was born during lambing season. Not in winter.

Dna and morals would also be impossible without God since if their was no God how would we know what is or isn’t moral and how would evolution randomly construct something as complex as dna not just once but thousands to millions of times yet we’ve never seen even one spec of new dna get created. also the Christian religion is the only religion that is openly mocked and villainize despite it teaching good morals even if your not religious the Bible (especially the New Testament) unarguably teaches extremely good morals but it’s still villainized which the Bible not only predicted that but explained it the reason being since the devil wants everyone in hell he would influence sinners to be against the only religion that would actually get them into heaven aka (Christianity) think of this you never see a famous singers or normal person mocking Egyptian religions or Norse mythology only Christianity, and this is only a small tiny amount of the evidence their is. their is so much more evidence, don’t just take my word for it fact check me if you want too.

Lots of good information. You were doing so well until 27:33 when you decided to defend Christmas and Sunday worship. It is so easily documentable that the Roman Catholics changed the day of Jesus' birth, it should be considered common knowledge. From Wikipedia: _The common Christian traditional dating of the birthdate of Jesus was 25 December, a date first asserted officially by Pope Julius I in 350 AD._ That's an invalid argument for those who wish to discredit Christianity though. However, it is an argument that Christianity was corrupted by pagan traditions many years after it began. Also, your argument for Sunday worship does Christianity a disservice. Yes, it is also so easily documentable to look up Constantine's declaration: _On 7 March 321, Constantine I, Rome's first Christian Emperor, decreed that Sunday would be observed as the Roman day of rest: On the venerable Day of the Sun let the magistrates and people residing in cities rest, and let all workshops be closed._ Again, that shows corruption of the original, not that Christianity was a copy of something else. The Roman Catholic church claims authority over the Bible, and “Sunday is our mark of authority …. The church is above the Bible, and this transference of sabbath observance is proof of that fact” (The Catholic Record of London, Ontario, Sept. 1, 1923). Your argument that it began in the days of the apostles is wrong, and easily refutable. Paul went to the synagogue on the Sabbath in Acts 13;14 & 44. It was clear from Acts 15:21 they expected that to continue. Sabbath is mentioned again in Acts 16;13, 17;2, 18;4 (where it says Paul persuaded both Jews and Greeks). These were all after Jesus' resurrection and ascension. Where you mention Acts 20;7, lets first look at verse 6. Here indicates Paul was still keeping the Passover and the feast of Unleavened bread. Why would he be doing that and not keeping the weekly Sabbath (which of course contradicts the previous verses I mentioned)? Now for verse 7, what constitutes a jewish day? A Jewish-calendar day does not begin at midnight, but at either sunset or when three medium-sized stars should be visible, depending on the religious circumstance. Col 2;16-17 says "Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ." When we look at Hebrews 10, it yields understanding of the reference "shadow" and pins the Sabbath days" being talked about here to the feasts, not the weekly Sabbath. Nonetheless, If the change of days from Sabbath to the first day were mandated by Jesus or the apostles, would not it have said something like "let no man judge you for worshiping on the first day of the week."? Throughout history, there have been Christians who have kept the Sabbath. Today, there are many Sabbath keeping churches, among which are Seventh Day Adventists, Seventh Day Baptists, and Messianic Jews. One thing I always will wonder about, where did you people get this _"Sunday worship"_ idea from? NOBODY worships the day, that is something "sabbath keepers are doing, they do worship the day instead of the God of the sabbath.

I love answers in genesis The only thing I don't agree on is celebrating any unbiblical celebrations that is strictly not in scripture, I think that if God wanted us to celebrate Christ's birth He would have written it down or made a commandment of it and I think He didn't because Christ was is and always will be He was there in the beginning and He will always be there forever, God is not man that He should have a day celebrating His birth we as believers reborn of the Holy Spirit should live everyday worshiping glorifying praising Christ Do you all not know that He lives???????? Why celebrate His "birthday" if He lives forever In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God Honor Him for He lives Worshiping Him all you saints

I don't understand why you're defending the celebration of Christmas. The Bible commands us not to add to or take away from the scripture. Nowhere in the Bible does a command us to celebrate the birth of Yahshua. If it was important to Yahweh then he would have given us the birth date.
