In that same film, though, they sort of bury the lede in the voiceover: That James's rusty, leaking, ruined £1100 Jag somehow, incredibly, still hit the wildly optimistic 140 mph target speed. It's one of the most quietly amazing things that ever happened on the show.

You're an absolute legend for creating these compilations

Two great things were done by the GTR in Australia back then. 20:44 - this glorious bit of driving from "James May" on the GTR, the episode of which was aired on Feb 1, 2015 (but shooting was definitely done in 2014 though) Then on Feb 8, 2015, the GTR won the 12 Hour Bathurst (which includes immediately overtaking the Audi and Bentley towards the end of the race to claim 1st)

(Very) early TG challenges were awesome and on a completely different level from their efforts in later seasons. You really get the feeling of watching three guys having fun with each other and throwing around some genuinely ad-libbed lines and jokes. Whereas in later seasons, everything felt much more stilted and scripted and everyone was trying to "act" (and none of them are great actors), playing their assigned roles of JC = loud oaf who always wants MOAR POWER!! - RH = slightly dim, short-tempered country-boy/secret American who takes everything literally - JM = pedantic, absent-minded professor who can only barely drive a car. When you look at their exchanges from that OG cheap car challenge (Audi/Rover/Volvo) you barely get *any* of that.

A great compilation would be the best times that the three of them were in the same car together. It doesn't happen loads but when it does it's always hilarious

I don't think I have ever enjoyed television more than when May cheated at the quarry in Australia. Don't care how scripted it was or not, it is my favourite TopGear moment across all series, in a show full of outstanding moments.

Not all the Stig's cousins were Ben Collins, but German Stig was... Apparently it was the only way the lads could be convinced to ride shotgun was to bring the real Stig in for the job. Ben's podcast appearances have been excellent.
