My "trick" to boost confidence in drawing was to start doing "Daily Doodles". Just small pieces, sometimes no more than a wee Gnome (My default subject if I don't know what to draw 😉 ). I'm on day 328 now!

That sound you hear is us cheering out loud! Most of us on the Blick team are artists ourselves, and we need to hear this message as much as anyone. We think Jess' question, "What is something you've never drawn before?" should be what each of us starts every day asking!

This is awesome :) Also I am suddenly, intensely jealous of folks working at Blick, with access to the dented or at least discounted goods 😭
This year, my goal is to fully focus on CREATING and GROWTH. This is going to be the year where I get into a daily art habit, fill an entire sketchbook, launch my website instead of continuing to procrastinate, and build my KZread channel up so that it finally starts to generate some income. Enough of putting my energy into things that aren't helping me towards my goals and dreams. Jess, I want to thank you for all of the work you do. You are such an inspiration to so many people and you're one of the most positive people. When I see you get excited about creating art, I also get excited. Every time you upload something new, it inspires me to grab my sketchbook and paint or draw as I watch your videos. I can't see where this year takes all of us! 🥰
Jess is like an art guardian angel and she takes her own time to make us videos ,I just want jess to know we appreciate her.

I've finished my graphic memoir and I'm going to get it published, entitled MOM REMEMBERS ME. I used my health and fitness knowledge to stop my mother with mild dementia from forgetting me, and it worked. I remind caregivers that they should use art to help with their caregiving or to copy any form of art that their caregivee might be doing to challenge you both. Here's to sanity in the world for 2023 and a great new year.

I LOVE how you included other artists!!!
Hullo Jess, I just wanted to say to you and anyone else reading this you have nailed a process and following your roadmap can and will lead you to success! Stay with it and simply never stop! I remember when I was rather forced into digital art because no one would hire someone who did not have computer skills! I thought my life with traditional art was over and I was very resentful. I have since come back to traditional art and creating watercolors was my first joy in creation in my life! I worked as a freelance artist for over 35+ years and the true key to sticking with it is showing up every day and doing something. Draw, paint, dance! Just be creative, know you’re being creative and being happy about it. Thank you for sharing your journey with us I look forward to seeing more and enjoying your joy! See ya next video!

Thank you so much, Jess! I needed this message today. I’m an art hobbyist and usually only do pieces for myself. A coworker asked if I would paint a big piece for his house. I am intimidated for sure! My first reaction was, “Me? But I’m just a beginner.” And then I thought, this is a perfect way to grow. Challenge accepted! You continue to inspire me. I commit to showing up. Let’s go!

My creative habit or objective for 2023 is finishing every single drawing or painting or sketch that I start. I tend to be so frustrated with the outcome and not trusting the process and I end up leaving everything halfway, and starting something new, hoping it will be better. Not anymore!! I have started going to art school to learn iconography and i will admit that i was disappointed at the beginning because i could not find this push i needed to confirm me that it was the right move i made in order to learn how to draw. Yesterday i finally found the motivation to continue so i feel it will be a good artistic year. Patience, building confidence, trusting my intuition and my guts regarding painting and drawing are some of the things i need to learn this year. Thank you so much for you inpirational videos. I never thought drawing and painting would be my next form of art to study. I was always drawing as a kids and i am self taught up to a certain point. Thanks to you, i am studying to become a fully fledged artist.

Amazing! Yes! Thanks for watching
I'm setting monthly challenges for myself this year, that way I can stay motivated by switching up the goal every month instead of burning out trying to keep up with the same goal every single day. For January my challenge is to flip to a random page in my 301 Drawing Prompts book and draw whatever the page lands on. The next day I do the same thing, but I use that prompt to add on to the previous prompt. At the end of each week I should have a full sketchbook spread completed. I've finished two weeks and two spreads so far. I did the same thing last year and it really helped me stick to a daily drawing practice, plus I get to draw things I never would've come up with on my own. In February I'll do a 100 Somethings challenge, and so on and so forth. Thank you for all of your tips and motivation, Jess. And the kid and Mr. Dino thank you too LOL

Thanks for a super inspirational video, Jess. I want to start a daily sketchbook activity in2023. Actually showing up to the page is a real challenge for me so I plan to get into a daily habit of drawing, painting, doodling etc at lest once per day.
How crazy ironic is it that today is the very first day that I found your channel? This is the second video that I am seeing and it is exactly what I needed to hear! From this day forward, in 2023 I intend to 'show up'. I shall begin each day with my sketchbook. And then.....I intend to begin to go back and finish all of the many beautiful sketches that I have made during the course of this past year. Myself, I have no excuse for not having the time. I am retired and have all the time in the world. Painting and sketching are something I returned to when I became severely disabled after two spinal fusions gone wrong. Art was the only thing that seemed to bring me relief from my constant pain. As of late, I seemed to have fallen into a bit of a rut and seeing this video is exactly what I needed to hear! Thank you ever so much Jess. Your positive outlook and energy are phenomenal. Today is the beginning of my new 2023. I hear my sketchbook calling out to me and there is a little squirrel just waiting to be sketched. And after that, I fully intend to return to my artwork and my plans to produce beautiful unique watercolor cards for all occasions. I also have several requests for commissions that I have in different stages of completion and my constant desire for perfection has kept me from bringing them to their final stage. I intend to put that unrealistic ideal on the back shelf where it belongs. Again, thank you. Your message couldn't have come at a more perfect time for me. It came through loud and clear and truly touched my heart. I am looking forward to a wonderful 2023 and also looking at your Patreon membership options to see which would be the best fit for me. 👩🦳🖌️
I'm an artist and one of my creative habit that i admire is architecture! I like making maps of houses and building. And one thing that i want to try doing more this year is making more paintings. Thankyou jess 💓 for making us committed to let the creativity flow! Happy 2023

In 2023 I would like to draw regularly and eventually maybe without fear outside, in the field and also in public, that is, where people might observe and approach me when I try to draw. I always put this off until now because I think I still have to get much better before anyone is allowed to see it and I'm not afraid of embarrassing myself.

Hi Jess! A creative habit I got into in 2022 is keeping a sketchbook and drawing or painting in it every day, and you actually inspired me to do that! A year ago I discovered your channel and I watched one of your videos about ideas for filling up a sketchbook, and I was instantly inspired. A year later and I’ve filled up four sketchbooks and counting! I want to keep it up this year. 😊
you're incredibly inspiring yourself, and bringing light to the darkest of places.
Patience has definitely become a learning curve! I learnt that recently on a project I’ve been working on for the last few months; I’ve been wanting to illustrate on the pages in my favourite book series but I knew that I didn’t want to dive straight in onto the page. I’ve been sketching in sketchbooks, playing around with thumbnails and other poses. It’ll take time before I get everything I want to draw into the books, but patience has been a virtue because I’ve learnt so much in the process and expanded upon the idea.
Hi Jess, your tips on art are great!!!!!!!!!!!! Love it hal

Beautiful video Jess! One habit I started at the end of last year was staring my day dancing at least a song as a warm up, then doing stretches before I start painting or working. The other habit I want to incorporate is meditation, I'm trying different forms and testing some watercolor meditation over just lying still. And I'm considering mixing it up. Until I find a way to relax, remove tension and slow down.

Dear Jess, thank you so much for your inspiration and output on this youtube channel! Im Esté, from Berlin and yet still a hobby artist working fulltime as a technition for a Filmequipmentrentalhouse. I really want to do more art and paint and draw and be more creative. After so many people lied my pictures who evr i showed them to. i started to do "murals" (i guess ist is called, Wallpaintings) for the company im working for. i didnt have any exhibitions or sold any of my art. I create art when ever there is a birthday or so and the person who i drew the pictures then, always where amazed and loved, what i had created... Now Your words even pushed me further in my thinking of how to go on and get further! Thank you so much you are a shining person and im happy to know you are out there! Esté.
For me i would say a creative habit I would like to do more of is to get myself out there & post my art. Up until Somewhat recently, i had a Perfectionist mindset which was impacting my art career in a negative way to the point i've stopped drawing. That's when I realized I should use Failure as a motivator to improve my skills & it's ok if my art isn't perfect. Ever since then, i've started to Draw again & i will never quit ever again because I CAN DO THIS just like anyone. I have a new Mindset & enjoy making art becasue there is someone who adores your work no matter your skill level.

Hi Jess - thank you so very much for sharing your knowledge in arts. I have started sketching since last year. We had really bad family tragedy during this covid and to get over that sadness I started scribbling some basic sketch and then decided to continue with sketching. Found an online class but you inspire me the most. I am a 63 year old lady. Last I had sketch when I was in 7th grade. 😅😅 My most favorite thing to do is to create something. Doesn’t matter if it’s sketching, knitting/crocheting or cooking/baking interesting food. To create something gives me great pleasure. My 2023 goal is to sketch or paint from human photograph. Hope you can guide me. I want to be really good at sketching/painting my friends/family members. Thank you so much. ❤❤ TM.
I'm sick with cold and this video was so inspiring... I was really sad that I'm stuck on pencil portraits and couldn't draw animals or paintings... thanks Jess... you've made my day
Hello, Jess! Thank you for another great year! The biggest creative habit I chose to follow in 2023 is making art a priority in my day. I find that I do not have much time, or rather ideas, to start drawing. But, I wish to overcome this by setting a timer (perhaps 15 minutes) dedicated to my sketchbook.. and of course - your videos! 🥰
This year I plan to actually see my creative projects to completion. There was another video I recently watched where the artist used the mantra "Finished, not perfect," and that's the sort of vibe I'm bringing to my work in 2023.
I want to try crazy things ,challenge myself and play with colours 😃 thank you so much for sharing your knowledge it's help me alot 🤗😘
One habit I wanna implement is to step out of my "comfort zone" in my sketchbook, start doing things that I find almost intimidating or something I haven't tried yet

@@artofjesskarp Thank you for the encouragement it truly means a lot and helps things move forward
Just do it! Getting started is the biggest hurdle. Hope 2023 is one of watercolor exploration & discovery -practice over project. Happy to have discovered your site.
Julia Cameron’s The Artist Way was my first touch into the artist realm. Those three pages a day were something I could do. Those Artist Dates…was challenging until I took a walk outside to be friends with nature. Details of tree bark and deeper. Then finding out the tree’s name…field guides are very inspirational. Your video here reminds me of someone…Thank you so much for your field notes!!!
I needed this, Jess, so thanks so much for creating and putting it where I could find it and refer back whenever needed. I haven't yet developed creative habits as an artist, but this and another video take me back to my habits and experiences with other creative talents: writing, healing, teaching, singing, dancing, and dreaming. In those parts of my life, I had regular creative practice, journaling, intuition, ideas, walking, carrying a notebook and pen at all times, quality time with people I love whose company lifts me up, regardless how either of our lives is going, and time with Nature and Spirit. Recently, I realized I've become lonely, despite being partly introvert. So maybe joining an artist's prompt/practice/review group and doing the activities might be a good habit for me to try this year. Again, thanks for this. Bright blessings. 💖💖💖
I watched this to get a few tips to help my drawings and instead found the absolute best inspirational video for all aspects of life. Wow! Thank you.
The creative habit that helped the most in the past year was setting weekly duration goals for sketch booking. The habit I would like to pick up is a weekly drawing class so I can make new friendships and grow my skills
Im so glad to know you Jess, you made a smile on my face ❤
