    @Palpatine McSenateFace Some people in this world are allowed to change their opinion over the period of 5 years. It's not hypocrisy , it's progressiveness. The UK holds a general election at least every 5 years by law, and that's because real people are a lot more dynamic than stans and we often change our opinion on things.

    +HelloGreedo PONIES! You missed the ponies. Adding Ponies to the SW Expanded Universe almost killed Star Wars Universe for me. The horses were added to Evok adventures, either due to laziness or budgetary constraints. Ewoks riding the live action horses, were no longer the sentient teddy-bear like creatures, they were reduced to midgets in furry costumes. You see, when people hate Jar Jar Binks it's never JUST Jar Jar Binks it's everythig he's directly attached to. Like the fact that Lucas insisted on showing him in close ups next to real live action humans, pretending not to notice, how hideously unnatural it caused the CGI to look! Same with Ewoks. Star Wars very rarely uses creatures from Earth, other than Humans. If necessary it tends to use something similar, or it would come up with a cross between several earth creatures. Like Bantha. And for a good reason. Every fiction must be aware of its own limitations. Star Wars universe is already featuring humans, surrounded by lots of outworldly creatures. The Humans can be our guides, they are those, whom we can identify with. If You throw in live horses, cats, and dogs, and elephants and so on... the computer generated imagery as well as the crazy costumes, will look contrived and artificial, and the magic of Star Wars Universe wouldn't work!

That's fine, but it really makes tossing out the EU pointless with all they've "borrowed," unless it was for preservation of Legends? Personally, I think it was the best thing to ever happen to the character. They took a character that had almost nothing going for him in TPM besides his look and his lightsaber and not only gave him depth, but made him intimidating as FUCK. Sam Witwer takes the character and absolutely knocks it out of the park. And for the record, being cut in half is not NEARLY the worst thing a Sith has survived. Darth Sion, anyone?

    +mplumley95 I always figured Mauls resurrection was a sign the writers of TCW were finally out of ideas. Thats how TV shows work, when your out of new ideas you start stealing old ones. Bringing back dead characters is a classic example of this.

  • @mplumley95

    Darth Armis Regardless, I thought the execution was pretty on point, and Witwer's voice acting for the character was absolutely excellent. I also like how they tied his story into the Mandalore arc; that was pretty clever. And of course, his confrontation with Palpatine brought forth one of my favorite lines from Sidious: "Remember the first and only reality of the Sith: there can only be two. And you are no longer my apprentice; you have been REPLACED." He's still alive as of the end of TCW, so I'm interested in seeing what eventually happens to him. Perhaps a final confrontation with Kenobi is in order, or even a one-on-one showdown with Vader? I'd be psyched to see either of those.

    2:20 You know what is dumber than Boba surviving the Sarlac pit? HE FELL BACK IN. As covered in "Desk of Death Battle," in the comic "Jawas of DOOM," Boba Fett had found himself in the desert outside of the Sarlac with amensia. Laying in the desert, Boba Fett, one of the most well known and infamous bounty hunters in the galaxy wearing one of the most well known and iconic suits of armor of the galaxy is captured by Jawas, mistaking Boba for a droid. Don't ask me how, they just kind of do. Anyway, Boba is on a sand crawler, chilling with R2D2 (somehow R2 was captured by Jawas again for... reasons). Han and Leia come to save R2D2 and stumble upon Boba. Han for some reasons decides to try to save the man who literally sold him for a wall decoration, only for the name "Han Solo" to jog Boba's memory at the WORST possible time. The sandcrawler, out of control, DRIVES INTO THE SARLAC PIT. Oh, and somehow the Sarlac put grew to be about ten times bigger to be able to reasonably swallow the entire Sandcrawler.

    Well thankfully all of this is no longer canon. Boba Fett is dead, Palpatine is dead w/o clones, zombies aren't around (unless you count the people infected by the brain worms utilized by the Geonosian queen during the Clone Wars), no crying mountains w/ healing tears, no force wielding droids. I don't mind witches being in Star Wars. In fact it was kind of interesting when The Clone Wars established a clear distinction between the Force and magic (or "magick"). The Nightsisters and Mother Talzin were a cool addition to the canon.

Pretty ironic. Don't you love when EU haters are so blinded by hate that the same things they do hate either a) never existed or b) has now happened in the new canon. This video aged terribly.

If you've seen any of HG's videos on TROS, you would know that he hates clone Palpatine in that film just as much. - Again this video predates Boba Fett's return in canon by several years. He doesn't care for the Boba Fett show. - I don't think he's read any of the High Republic stuff. Regardless, their isn't anything stopping him from disliking both. - Regardless of canon status, Skippy is very stupid. - He hadn't seen TCW at the time of this video. Not sure what he thinks of the zombies in that show. Besides that show exists in both continuities. I think your problem is that you took this video as some sort of comparison between old and new Canon, when it wasn't. You're allowed to criticize both. If you're familiar with HG's videos beyond this one, you would know that their is plenty of new stuff that he dislikes.

    Basty135 And you learn how to make better excuses. No, manny stuff from EU wil never be rereleased or reprinted, mainly majority Dark horse comics. Plus, all new books and games will be part of cannon, which means that unfinished EU stories will never be finished and no new stories with EU character will ever be written again. Also, their hard work isn't in vain since they still got paid and got to enjoy writing/making their adaptations of Star Wars lore? That's like trying to build a car that would run on a cold fusion, for 20 years and than getting a tap in a back for it. Plus, why would anyone buy something that is not part of cannon, anymore? EU material will no longer be experienced by new fans. EU was somewhat cannonical for about a 30 years, and while some stories were rewritten, the makers usually had a great respect for EU, like The Clone Wars for example. There were much better ways of continuying EU legacy, without erasing it completely and at the same time, making new stories and movies. Certain huge comicbooks companies or famous sci-fi genres has been doing this for years. And that's not all. The reason why am I pissed of, is also, because so far, nothign from the New Cannon that was legitimately good, except one single books, made by...big shock...an EU author. Eu had some major bad stories, but for the most part it was solid. Neighter new games, animated series or even books or comics. Not to mention that Disney has been doing nostalgia fanservice, that si even worse than one in EU and is constantly changing stuff, even from Original Trilogy, just like prequels did. So, give a single reason, why should I pay my money, to a company that so far handled Star Wars brand like a joke and didn't deliver any good material after 2 years of owning it?

  • @Basty135

    @Basty135

    +Thane3999 "Many* stuff from the EU will never be rereleased or reprinted" Yeah it's a shame, but so what? You can still buy copies of them from comic book stores and the internet. A lot of things go out of print, doesn't mean it's impossible to find. Why do you need more printed when there is enough to go around anyway? "That's like trying to build a car that would run on a cold fusion, for 20 years and than getting a tap in a back for it." I disagree, it was inevitable anyway. Like I've stated before things go out of print because the demand isn't there anymore or if it has already been met. The writers had their time to write their stories and they did. That experience isn't replicated. A lot of people still enjoy their work and stories, so what's there to be upset about? For that fact that it isn't called "canon", or "official"? So what? Let me make this analogy; lets say we make a movie and finish it. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience of making said film but there are people who don't like it. Yet, we find that there are other people who do like it. Just because there are people who don't like it doesn't mean there aren't people who do, or that our experience was fruitless. If we got something out of it, that's what matters. Do you see what I'm saying?

    Sure, there are some good stories in the EU, but you have to stick with a concrete time line. The problem with canonizing the EU is you have to cherry pick what is cannon and what is not. You'll wind up with a very confusing story line because you would not be sure which book/comic/video game is cannon and which is not.

  • @rebelscum6356

    Who's to say that the characters and plot of TFA are not going to be interesting? Rebels is a TV show for kids. You don't find it interesting, but it works for their target audience. My 6 year old loves it. We are getting storm troopers again, but we are seeing behind the mask in Finn. Cinematically, we've never had any background of what it's like to be a storm trooper. Just "Have you seen the new T-16?" I think seeing Finn go from storm trooper to resistance fighter will be awesome. What if Kylo Ren was created by Palpatine before he died? Palpatine mentioned in EP3 that his old master was able to create life. What if Palpatine figured out how, too? That would give Anakin and Kylo a unique connection and explain why he's obsessed with Vader. So, yes, there are a lot of different things this new movie could delve into and it has everything to do with being free to create a new story and not being bound by what's written by multiple people and some not even connected to in anyway to Lucasfilm.

    For the 2nd one, the Clone Wars did a good job of saying earth words but still making it fit. The way they usually did it was by saying the word to describe something, and then saying it's real name. Like how somebody called the Nightsisters witches before they revealed they were called Nightsisters. Or when someone told Anakin and Obi Wan those aliens were angels before the aliens told them their actual name. Sure sometimes in Star Wars they make it work without changing the name. When they do that they do it by semi-changing the meaning. Like when young Anakin asks young Padmé if she's an angel, but then talks about mythical creatures living on some moon instead of earth-angels like the ones from the Christian bible.

You can say it was "the force that saved him" but thats just an obvious cop out.

    HelloGreedo hasn't watched The Clone Wars, so he probably doesn't know about that. But yeah, a part of me agrees. While it was great to see a villain like Maul finally receive the characterization he so desperately needed, I still don't care much for bringing him back from the dead. I have a difficult enough time swallowing people surviving seemingly fatal falls, much less when they've been cut in half as well.

The sequel trilogy needs to EXPAND on the SW Universe in the right ways, not rehash the same thing, hopefully in the next two movies I hope they will try and experiment more creatively, to tell a new story.

    Having just finished reading Deathtroopers, I can vouch for it. Spoilers, you have been warned. The disease, unlike usual zombies, starts way before the host dies, and it's a creative take. A hive is trying to control your mind by constantly reminding you of your deepest, darkest memories until you succumb to it in order to make the memories stop. It behaves much like the Genosians afterwards. Not only that, the Deathtroopers are now canon, through the Imperial Death Troopers who were named after the project that created the hive mind. However, these two are not related, Death Troopers don't have any connection with the hive.

Its two sides going at it at roughly equal strength. Now with the Force Awakens, it just recreates the same situation as the OT. We had a strong New Republic, but that gets destroyed in 30 seconds, so now there are Rebels again and an evil empire.

I believe episode 8 has a chance due to TFA gaining back most of the people who hated the prequels (which I did hate the 1st two but not revenge of the sith) so with their audience back they might finally be able to tell a new story. Hopefully we don't see Rey get her hand chopped off or Luke riding on her back. But what drove me nuts about TFA is the dam Death Star 3.0, when we first saw it JJ Abrams said it was a huge difference in technology and what it does....destroys extra planets and is bigger..... Matthew Chenault Indeed. It's so obvious that creators were operating independent of Lucasfilm in making books and comics and only got their work rubberstamped at the end leading to 100 writers writing 100 varying stories and histories. I can only hope that this new EU will be controlled strictly by the story-group and besides: people may be sad that the old EU stuff is gone, but there was a point in the past where there was no EU stuff so it's like the beginning of a new adventure of discovering characters as cool as Thrawn or Mara Jade. :-)

  • @JoeMahon92

    @JoeMahon92

    9 жыл бұрын

    Matthew Chenault That's entirely your opinion, but you can't dispute the quality of a lot (not all) of EU such as the force unleashed, dark empire and Boba Fett's survival were such that it was detrimental to the overall story of the movies. As explained by HelloGreedo, Dark Empire lessens the sacrifice of Vader to defeat the Sith, The Force Unleashed weakened Vader (the undefeated villain) by being defeated twice by a Mary-Sue character whose force powers were designed more for an Iron Man movie, and Boba Fett's death is meaningless (if intended to survive, why have him at all on the Barge and not back at the Palace?) I disagree with your point on the story group. The difference here is that the old EU (while accepted as "canon" by fans) was never truly canon. Lucas often stated that he never wanted the Emperor to be cloned, Luke to be married or anything else that the books said. With the new slate, it's all being created from one coherent story group who then allow writers to expand creatively but under strict supervision.

    Star Wars Tales was never cannon. They were fun "what if" stories from different writers to explore fun concepts and play around in the Star Wars Galaxy. A lot of the EU is just fan fiction, but at the same time there was some stuff in it that was at times, WAY better than some of the stuff in the movies. Then again these are all a matter of preference and personal taste.

    How zombies don't fit? It's explained quite well how they came to be and it makes sense. Also i can't see how Boba being alive is a bad thing either. You claim he was a badass bounty hunter and it was only fanservice that they brought him back, but in the original trilogy, we didn't know he was a badass, all he did was track Han, Vader handed him Han when he was frozen and then he was knocked into the Sarlacc pit (with an especially pathetic perfromance). Then EU came and the prequel trilogy and people found out how much of a badass he is supposed to be. I can see why people wanted him back when he had so little going on in the original trilogy.

    +Koloricsi Explain to me how a zombie plague hasn't spread galaxy-wide in a matter of a few years. I mean, any real-world flu epidemic spreads in a matter of a few weeks, from all the travel between countries. In Star Wars, we have interstellar travel, and entire planets to spread to, wildlife included. Besides, the question isn't how can there be zombies in Star Wars. The question is: should there? I don't think there should, not only it doesn't make sense (for the reason I stated above) but also it doesn't seem to fit to what the theme of Star Wars really is.

    Okay, hang on just a minute. Skippy was from the Star Wars: Tale, and was never meant to be canonical. He was from the "Infinities" area of comics, comics that were done to be fun, or outrageous, or silly, or to explore different "what if" scenarios. These were never actually taken seriously as a part of canon. Skippy was SUPPOSED to be ridiculous. It wasn't "explaining" anything.

    It's like you don't even know what you're talking about, the reason for the Gungans being reanimated was clearly explained in the Republic Comic and the Jedi Droid wasn't even canon in the EU. I admit that while I loved the EU , and that I was disappointed when it was scrapped I understand why it was scrapped. The post-ROTJ EU would have never synced with this new stuff and I get this, but we traded 30+ years of quality stories ( and admittedly some crap) for sub-par novels, a decent kids show, and an OT Fanboys wet dream. I have tried liking this new canon and I have tried accepting the opinions of casual fans like yourself, but when you take a couple examples from the EU then decide to cast a blanket statement about the other hundreds of works that comprises the EU I can't help but get A little annoyed.

    +Chris Rosevear Not in that context, I was thought it was clear that I was referring to the type of fan that even prior to the canon reboot wrote off the Legends continuity based on ill-informed opinions. He cites two sources that are widely considered jokes and non-canon within the legends continuity , dismisses a compelling storyline based on personal tastes and preferences, then misrepresents a storyline to support his own views. Not to mention that he Disparages the EU for having done the exact same things that this new canon has, especially in regards to resurrections and using real-world words . Regardless of how much of the old and new canon Hello Greedo follows, I don't believe that a true Star Wars Fan casts aspersions on an entire continuity based on misrepresentations and a couple of admittedly poor stories. I have read every piece of available material of this new canon and have found the majority of it wanting, but unlike Hello Greedo I don't cast it in a poor light based on my personal tastes nor do I imply to others that the EU as whole was better than this New Canon. But I'm going off on a tangent. In short, I refer to Hello Greedo as a casual fan not based on the quantity of source material he has followed, but rather the fact that he dismisses an entire branch of the Star Wars lore (whether canon or not) as generally worthless.

    It's not about that, it's about allowing the business partners to continue Legends. They always were the ones to do justice to it, all Lucasfilm had to do was license it and sign off on continuity checklists, which is mind-numbingly simplistic in the age of wikis and digital information. We don't need their seal of approval, we require their _permission._ There is a difference, not every EU fan is asking for older lore to be made "canon" again, and I'm certainly not. I want the original storyline continued, and that's beyond them, somehow. Even if they call it non-canon "fanfiction," as Chuck Wendig once sneered, "go write fanfiction," well, whaddya know, we don't even get an official FANFICTION magazine to continue it from willing fan writers. Look at the Legacy of the Force storyline. Fans got to vote on the name of a major Sith Lord. Imagine that! That's kinda wild, doesn't it make you a bit jealous over all we've lost? It does for me.
