I dislike the Greedo shooting first change, not because it takes from Han's character, but because it discredits Greedo. How could Greedo, a seasoned bounty hunter, miss a shot from less than 3 feet away? It makes no sense to me.

I always thought that in real life people do not react like this, at least in my country 100%. For us, it looks very silly and funny. Maybe it is exclusively feature of the American mentality? Or is it a stereotype created by Hollywood?

I remember seeing jedi in the theater as a kid, and when Vader grabbed the Emperor, the crowd cheered. It was an exciting moment, and the climax of the Skywalker story. Having Vader say "no" kind of lets you know what's going to happen, and lessens that climax.

***** Yeah, but no one can say anything bad about the redone shots of the battle on the deathstars' surface. Those are just plain better in every way. If they do release the original versions on bluray, they need to at least include the touch ups on the special effects, like the black lines around the ships on Hoth, ect. Even the Tie-fighters had gray boxes around them. I agree we should get the original versions, but just the bare minimum touch ups to things like that. And of course, the great restored picture and sound.

HAZE_productions This only PROVES that Lucas added the change as an "F-you" to the fans. After the Vader "NOOoo" from the prequels, he decided to get the fans back for all the criticism, just before selling his company. Lucas is a HACK. He can't write or direct. Personally, I loved the "NOOOOO!" at the end of Revenge of the Sith, as there's so much emotion in it. It is basically one last scream of Anakin Skywalker before being buried deep inside Vader for some 20 years. The dialogue implies that it is only about Padmé, but I think it goes deeper than that. I think that outburst represents all regrets Anakin had. From the moment he slaughtered the Tusken Raiders to all those moments he had been a jerk to Obi-Wan, the closest thing he had ever had to a father.

Jack C See The People vs GL doucmentry. Through new technology, we are able to see that some of the greatest works of art don't match the sketches underneath. Meaning the artist went back and made alterations to hide there mistakes. Same tactic, different medium. Plus Kyle is right. The changes aren't that drastic that they change the plot of the movie. Even with the whole Hon thing, he still killed Greedo. He could aimed for his hand to disarm him if he wanted to be the uber good guy and incapacitate him. Greeo's added shot changes nothing. If anything, it makes Han more of a badass for keeping his cool and forcing Greedo to blind fire. Also, the original credits are still in tacked. I checked. Any claims that the new dubs or the the inserted head overnight the original actors work are false. You will not find Haydans name in the credits in of RotJ in any edition of Star Wars. Plus, Shaw is remembered the most for his final moments with Luke alive, not for standing and smiling like an idiot for 4 seconds. I agree, some the changes are pointless, and some of them don't improve the film all that much, but none of them are so drastic that the entire story falls apart. Plus, in the internet age, people can look up the changes and make there own options. I for one would much rather see Ian McDerman in Empire than some shriveled monkey face.

My parents did, and my dad is more of a star trek fan, and he likes new and old, same with Star Wars. 7:06 ... weird continuity mistake? what the poops??? The lightsaber color doesnt change, its an entirely different lightsaber all together... Did you not notice that hte handle of the blue lightsaber looks like Darth Vaders lightsaber? Being one of the earliest foreshadowings of Vaders role? Did you not notice that the lightsaber in Jedi looks exactly like Obi-wans, lukes mentor? Did you not notice... this scene? this entire scene in Jedi? kzread.info/dash/bejne/qWF8qNhvfdaXnNo.html Where Vader and Luke are talking, and vader is examining Lukes lightsaber. One of moments where Vaders humanity shines through? The moment where vader looks upon his sons lightsaber, and is proud of his son. and says explicitly "I see you have constructed a new lightsaber" As for the color chaning lightsaber in the special editions, this was actually not intentional. If you watch the special editions you will notice that the lightsaber is green at some points, and blue at the others. The reason it was incorrectly green in some versions was because of a coloring error, a testament to the half-hearted and half-assed nature of the special editions. Literally nobody rewatched the cut before sending it off to DVD to make sure everything was cool.

The Darth Vader "No" adds character to him. Most of the time he's lifeless, like there's just a robot inside. In episode II and III you see how Anakin reacts to different things. His "No" in Episode III was more... realistic. I mean, normal Anakin would scream, if he saw his son being tortured. The son that still loves him after everything he did. You people know what I mean? It showed that Anakin did not change and is still a human. I actually liked that change. It adds more... life.. to his character.

  • @rustyJake_

***** In my opinion it would be a lot like Anakin. WHen he looked at his son and the Emperor, he might think in his head "This is happening again, but now with my son. The emperor said Padme died because of my anger, but she still somehow made children. He lied to me just so I join the dark side!" and then he shouts at the emperor "No!". It would also make sense. I think that Vader's lines were hearthless and we're just like a robot, no emotions "Yes master. Luke, join the dark side.", and his "No!" seemed like the only time he showed a emotion like a real human since the emperor made him into a hearthless killing mashine.

drthsons Dot I think they simply think it sounds funny, probably because they're shallow people. If anyone thinks it's an overly melodramatic cheesy line, then they'd have to say the same about Luke doing it in The Empire Strikes Back, and most of the people trashing the prequels wouldn't dare profane against their holy trilogy. lol (To be fair though, some people still make fun of Luke yelling "No!") Every Star Wars film now has a character that says it at some point. I don't see why they have such a problem when Vader does it, either.

  • @mattkrause703

    @mattkrause703

AbstractM0use here I will fill you in a little bit, Luke was in his teens or his early 20s during the original trilogy so him being a little emotional or worked up is kind of understandable when the only guy he knows for a couple light years dies on some random space-station, he might be a little emotional when he realizes that his father just tried to kill him, and wants to make him evil, and killed off his mentor, and cut off his hand. However this is Lord Vader we are talking about. He personally supervised the torture of Han, cut off his son's arm, attempted to freeze him in carbonate, and killed a former friend in cold blood rather than take him captive. Based on Vader's personality seen thus far he is a far cry from the emotional teen he was in episode 3. Having him use the same cry a second cry 14+ years later is just bad continuity. Using it in Return of the Jedi is not a good idea, dubbing it in later is even worse. The problem with it in the single scene in Revenge of the Sith is in the execution, hence why some people think it is funny. The scene was delivered so poorly and the scale of it so pitiful, Vader just stood there and flexed for a fairly long time, sure things broke, but there isn't a clear distinction of whether he was angry or sad that he killed his wife. In terms of scale it was a massive let down. What should've been a dark tragic ending ended up being punctured by a pitiful sound, but no emotion, no body language to tell what Vader was feeling, it just appeared poorly written. If he fell to his knees or something in shock it would be fine due to the dramatic clank to reaffirm that he is, in fact, a machine, but he just stands there moaning for a good three seconds. Most of the other screams are shorter or drawn out for epic effect. If they are drawn out for epic effect such as obi-wan's in episode 1 they are heavily complemented by the music to produce the dramatic effect. This one, which I would like to point out is the 4th one in the movie at this point, failed to include a musical force to cue the audience into the power of this realization, so the line fell flat. Some of the audience the line fell so flat it was funny, but they could not determine why. Hope I could clarify why some people don't like this dub and that scene.

Matt Krause _"The problem with it in the single scene in Revenge of the Sith is in the execution, hence why some people think it is funny"_ That's pretty much what I said in the first place. People think it sounds funny. I can see why they do, but it doesn't bother me. The best thing to come from that was Robot Chicken's Little Palpatine torturing the cat with the emphasized "Meooooooow". lol _"However this is Lord Vader we are talking about. "_ When Vader decided to stop the Emperor and toss him into the reactor core, he was no longer Lord Vader, he was Anakin Skywalker again. The reason one character says it in each movie is because each film is supposed to rhyme, like poetry. Also, when he now says it again in RotJ, he's not in agony or despair, like when he was younger, this time he's defiant. Personally, I liked it better when he didn't say anything, and the music did the work, but I don't think it's ruined.

AbstractM0use No it is about making the audience think about the moment and about what's going through Vader's mind, the silence is perfect it builds up emotion.Adding no no NO is so cheesy, it's like Lucas thinks the audience is too dumb to comprehend "the moment" of what is happening.Maybe the younger generation can tolerate the change easier but for older folks that seen the original, It is the worst possible voice add in of all time! It's just adding in things to a scene to fill it in, Same as a lot of the cgi parts added in just for the hell of it because they probably thought, hey look there is a gap here lets add some more content.Touching up scenes and removing imperfections, adding more detail/colour, removing puppeteer's hands that were captured on film, improving sound effects I am all for thoseBut adding cheesy cgi and voice overs just for the sake of it ruins the film in my opinion.

You are usually spot on with your Star Wars changes analysis, but you did make a huge error when talking about Luke's lightsaber in ANH. The 2004 DVD was a disaster because it made Luke's lightsaber (Anakin's lightsaber) GREEN! Now, you had a brain fart thinking that Luke's lightsaber changing to green in ROTJ is a continuity error. It isn't. Luke built a new lightsaber for ROTJ because he lost his original (Anakin's blue saber) when Vader cut off his hand in Cloud City! So the lightsaber in ANH and ESB SHOULD be blue and in ROTJ a DIFFERENT lightsaber is green. Surprising mistake on your part ;)

Martin Wenzel Lukes (Anakins) lightsaber appears (lit) in two scenes in A New Hope. Obi-wans hutt, and the Falcon. In the first special edition, it was colored green in obi-wans home... but blue on the falcon. In the 2004 DVD release, it was colored blue in obi-wans home... but FREAKING GREEN on the falcon. The change in both versions was apparently unintentional, and was the result of something called a "color timing error" or something. In other words nobody re-watched the special editions after editing, and shipping them off to be distributed. its proof that it was done lazily.

+King Kazma Well it was the loving creation of Lucas to begin with, that's undeniable. It wouldn't exist without him. Of course the cast and crew are almost just as important however, and it's definitely a team effort too.

***** Yeah Star Wars was deff a team effort, they wanted to pin the entire success on Lucas and that was a mistake, just like Akira Toriyama, he was more the funny side of Dragon Ball Z and now people are noticing it, the serious side of Dragonball Z was thanks to other people on his team. Same with Lucas, he was more into the silly side of Star Wars.

King Kazma Ah, well that'd make sense why the original Dragon Ball seemed like a more comedy oriented and light hearted kid adventure haha. I almost feel like that was what the prequels were missing though, more funny banter between the characters is pretty important

***** No, Lucas didn't write the witty stuff, that was another guy who left, just the silly stuff, Jar Jar, monsters going out of control, frogs burping ect... Like the Empires Strikes Back? Well Lucas didn't touch that one. Think Return of the Jedi was too silly in some areas? specially with the Ewoks beating up Storm Troopers? Yep the return of Lucas. Whet I find weird is Lucas says things about movies that contradict what he has done, like hes a hypocrite? In some areas anyways. But yeah that point is just one man doesn't make a movie or a game.

I would've already bought the blu Ray collection if it weren't for Vader yelling no in ROTJ. In my opinion it is the absolute worst change in the special editions. It ruins one of the very best scenes in the entire saga. And it pisses me off that for some reason, George didn't think the movie felt complete without it. If Vader being silent wasn't part of George's "vision" then why on earth didn't he have him yell no in the first place. It's a prime example that George changes things just because he can. If you asked him he wouldn't have a reason other than, "I feel it adds to the scene" even though you could ask anyone else on planet earth and they would say it detracts.

I don't think there's been a director/writer that has imagined a more rich universe, then regretted and horribly modified it. If lucas had the technology he wished he had when making the original trilogy, it would have been just as bad as the prequels.

not just technology but the people who worked with lucas on the original trilogy were not a bunch of yesmens who agreed to every decision lucas made like the prequels. a great example was hans reply to leia when she said she loved him in empire strike back. han was supposed to say i love you too but harrison ford and irvin kitchener both realized how dumb that line was so they changed it to i know which is much better and more in character for han to say

Greedo shot first and the NOOO was kinda hilarious... BUT You would think that the creator and writer of the original movies that fans love so much should have the right to do whatever he wants with the series that he conceived, and the storylines that he put together. Sometimes Star Wars fans' nitpicking habit becomes a little too much. It's not like some outsider dictated these changes. Without the person they are bitching about this whole saga and the whole fandom wouldn't even exist. So take it for what it's worth and just quit being so easily offended.

+Caden Morse Yes, he was definitely within his rights to change his own film. The beef we all have is that his original vision of the first 3 movies was spot on. His changes were largely forced, unnecessary, and bewildering. It would be like da Vinci coming back from the dead now and adding lipstick to the Mona Lisa.

+razorfett147 "his original vision of the first 3 movies was spot on" that's an opinion, and obviously not the opinion of the creator. As a creator myself. (I write and draw comic books) nothing we ever create is finished. We always see something we would have done differ, but, we have to come out with the product (deadlines and all) I don't think there's a single creator I've met that would change something about a work we've done. As we move forward and create moe, we learn more, and are always "seeing" things we would have done different. Do the fans always like it? No. But, an artist never thinks "l got it right, this is perfect" if we did, we would have nothing to keep us moving forward. That's the curse of being an artist/creator, the vision in our head is never what comes out on paper, or in a film makers case, what comes out on the screen. I once got over 100 pages into a graphic novel and then scrapped the whole thing to start over from page 1. The vision keeps us going

+Caden Morse I think South Park addressed this neatly. Star Wars and all the other our favorite movies dont belong to the directors, producers and so on. They Belong to us, the fans. We are the ones who these movies are made for. Not physically of course, but the very nature of these movies, their soul, their chemistry belong to us.

  • @GamerWho

That last change was enough to make me lose interest in Star Wars. The original is infinitely better. You can see the internal struggle even through the mask. The change is like a bad punchline which for me robs the original trilogy of any power. It's worse than Greedo shooting first. All three movies have been building up to this moment and the tension just deflates the moment Vader speaks. Dick move, George.

I admire his love for these three amazing movies and how he looks at the smallest details to appreciate them. And these videos that look into the franchise as deeply as possible makes my love, appreciation, and just pure respect for these great films grow. Thanks Hello Greedo!

It is upsetting to see this I could not imagine what it was like to grow up when star wars began and to see this. Why would Lucas do this when he KNOWS the fans hate??

With the lightsaber changes, Luke was given his fathers saber which was blue in all prequels. That saber was lost when lukes hand was cut off, he then made a new Green saber in the third movie.
