Watching you is a blast, George!! I’m 71 and, for the first time ever, I’m growing my beard out to a length similar to yours.....I hope. I’ve always worn a beard, just kept it short. So, I’m enjoying your advice and will, definitely, adhere to your grooming suggestions. Thank you...

For my wash days i use Dr.Bronners all natural castile soap, just makes it nice and clean and "resets" it. I do this about 2-3 days out of the week. For the other days i do a VERY light lather of a handmade bar soap whose main ingredients are Rosemary and Tea Tree oil. With the other beard maintenance tips you have given through your videos, my beard is nice, healthy, full, and soft as can be. I keep it at around the 4months growth length to enjoy the style. Also, avoid ingredients in your soaps that have anything related to or any combination of "Laureth", "Laurel", and "Sulfate" that you use for your beard or face. These are the ingredients that make your soap nice and foamy, but they also severely dry out skin and beard hair.

You are AWESOME! I wanted to ask you about something. I work as a Physical Therapist, in an inpatient hospital setting. My manager allows me to grow a large beard. It is important however, because certain patients have MRSA, and other infections, that I keep myself very clean. Especially when I get home after work, I make sure to clean up very well. What is something I can cleanse my beard with every day after work, that would not do too much harm?

Hey Gray Bailey I was wondering, I have a short beard. There isn't much length, I grow it and trim it to the point that it is full and there is no thin patches but that's about it. I have read that you should oil (depending on the weather you are in) every 4 hours or so just to keep your skin hydrated and hair healthy on your face. What I currently do is I wake up and do my facial care routine, brush my teeth and whatnot and shower and then I pat-dry my beard, I apply oil and then use my Boar Bristle brush to tame the hairs. I apply my oil at this point and before bed 100% and maybe once in between morning and night but each time I am using my brush to brush my beard so I am brushing it 2-3x a day. Not for long, maybe 30 seconds to 1 minute total each brush. Is that too much brushing because if I don't brush after applying oil during the mid day (in between morning and bed time) then my hair looks messed up and I go to the gym middle of the day and I apply oil after I shower there so my question is, how many times should I brush my beard and tame the hairs. How many 1 minute brushing sessions is too much?

I work in the outdoors as a wildland firefighter and other outdoor work in the forests, i chainsaw trees; felling/bucking. I can easily go weeks at a time without a shower but I always try to wash my face/neck etc. Would everyday use of beard shampoo or soap still be a bad recommendation? I can get a lot of dirt, wood chips, and, during fire season, get the smell of soot/carbon on my beard/skin.

I'm constantly getting sawdust, concrete dust, drywall dust, hardy plank dust, and regular dust from digging foundations, and sweat (114 degrees summers here) in my beard do you still suggest not washing it? I'm weary of all of the construction debris in my beard. I feel like I have to wash it every day just to keep clean. What do you suggest for construction workers with beards? I know this is an old video but I'd love some guidance.

Combing and co-washing could go a long way for you. You could bump up using a beard wash/pine tar soap/etc. to 2-3 days a week. Just pay attention to your beard. All of the things you've listed that you get in your beard can have a drying effect, so if you use a soap that's also drying your hair out, you'll regret it quickly. Rinsing that stuff out and/or using conditioner every day should help keep the beard clean. You'll have to do some experimenting to find the right balance between keeping as much dust out as possible and keeping the beard moisturized enough.

goodesean sometimes just a good rinse is fine for days your not getting it dirty from work. on days you need to wash it I'd recommend a beard conditioner for most of the week and a beard shampoo for only two days of the week. I personally condition my beard every other day or every two days, with one or two shampoos a full week. but if I'm not shampooing or conditioning I give it a good rinse before applying more products.

I'm in the process of growing a beard so I'm no expert but one thing I can say is I'm getting a little fed up with hearing stuff like "you need to wash your beard in sacred cow milk mixed with honey and lavender and strained through magic fairy crystals from the cliffs of Dover while listening to Tori Amos". I'm exaggerating of course, but not really. Sure a beard needs some care, but we're also men, and men are rugged. I'm pretty sure Grizzly Adams didn't obsess over products and make sure to touch his beard with "open hands".

God-damn right! I haven't used shit on my beard, brushed or whatever for the longest time. Mistake. Three things I recommend: 1. Use what fucking-ever-conditioner you want on it when you shower, don't soap. 2. Brush it with whatever-the-fuck feels comfortable. 3. Beard oil that's natural is good for keeping it soft. Other than that, it's a fucking beard! it'll grow from your face if you don't shave. It's not unicorn pubes.

I just use baby shampoo once a week. Condition every other day and use my Kent comb. I like a few beard oils that are on the market but will also use coconut oil. I actually made a video about that a few years back...be sure to check it out on my channel. I just subscribed....really like your content! I plan on making a series of videos myself along with a little vlogging. Awesome beard by the way!!

Hey I got a question. My beard is like half yours in lengh and I'm using a brush made from boar bristle. What are your thoughts on that?

It's hard to beat a wide kent comb. Even the thinner ones are great. Stay away from plastic is my advice.

Guilty as charged! That being said, thank god for videos that aren’t obsessively hawking products moral than tips!

My beard is a few inches shorter than yours and I use selson blue twice a week and all natural beard oil. I still use a brush, but have been loosing some hair and get dry skin at the bottom of my chin. What am I doing wrong? I'm trying to grow to your length. Yours looks great btw.

Don't use head shampoo on your beard. It's too harsh. Use something simple and natural

Oh wow, boar bristle brushes are a no go? That sucks, everything I'd read said they were fine.

People forget. Beards will grow if you do absolutely nothing. So do your best or to pull it out or dry it out. The it
