For solo riding it's perfect, the exhaust is a touch on the hotter side and it's right next to your right leg, but you only feel the issue in stop go traffic, really good value for money.

As a scrambler you should have had it off road, Triumph do a great 'Triumph Scrambler Experience' day in Wales to give a taste of they they can do, (some tigers also in the group on the day as it happens), but these things were there with us over mountains, through water, mud, the lot, such fun. While they look great, we had them covered in mud within the first hour and had a blast all day. Open them up and hit the hills off road!

Number 1...Bang on! It's gotta make the Icon of Torque Museum I reckon. This bike has nearly everything already on board. Exhaust certainly doesn't need changing (except remove the cat). For me it's this and the speed twin that really push the Triumph brand this year. Both excellent icons of British bike manufacturing. I'm more XC than the speed twin; due to my dirty background. When I rode the similar engine Speed Twin with even more torque, lighter and with ridiculously loud V&H poppers, I also rode the new Speed Triple 1050 RS and unfortunately, the Triple (WHAT A BIKE) pushes the Speed Twin into 3rd place for me. But hey! That's three excellent world class absolutely mind bendingly brilliant....BRITISH....bikes. A never ending rush :-) I'm gonna dive into your "annals" now TMF and watch your Speed Triple RS review (2018 better paint job too). Cheers.

Hi TMF. An unrelated comment but one I felt worth making... Ive just read your regular column in MCN and I have to say I couldn’t agree more. Well said! I’m firmly of the view that our emergency services throughout the UK are very well supported but unfortunately the police are often the poor country cousins when it comes to praise being passed on. I’m not saying that every police officer is perfect. That’s obviously not going to be the case and it’s the same in every public service or indeed business. But I firmly believe the police should get our support / praise and it’s great to see someone with access to such a public platform like yourself taking the time to do so. Top marks!!! (And before anyone thinks of chiming in with ‘oh he’s obviously a peeler’ the answer is no I’m not!) :-)

Sorry if I'm being a little picky(same size as thou, approx.), the thing I would love most about having a v. v. expensive bike is not to run the risk of falling off it (due to a perfectly adequate, in day to day life, inside leg measurement) at a T junction. I realise that there are more vertically challenged (+) people out there too. However, I normally disregard them in the pub, etc.. So, it's good that you're going the way of positive discrimination in your reviews. If only the rest of the world were like you, TMF!

How do you think the XC compares with the speed twin? I'm in the market for a new triumph soon and I'm deciding between the scrambler XE, XC and speed twin, height not an issue for me being 6"3 just trying to work out what would suit the Australian back roads the best. Also wish the scramblers ran the speed twin dials as the TFT just looks wrong to me.

The country of origin is not the determining factor for quality. The quality assurance and quality control procedures which are put in place determine the standard of production.

Engines make power, gears convert it to rpm and torque at the rear wheel. You want more torque, shift into first gear. You need more speed, shift into sixth gear. Power is the rate the engine is converting gasoline into forward motion. It is what is motivating you at any rpm. Engine torque is meaningless to you as a rider. Either way, the bike looks like fun. Just thought you'd like to know ;)
