    The longest trail is a green that wraps around the mountain, but at one point near the start there’s a three way intersection. You can either stay on the trail, go on a trail which just goes to the side then merged back in, or you can end up on the double black.

    #3 happened due to the fact they set regulations and standards to force all the top tiered, top certified instructors to either quit, leave, or step down. It was cheaper to hire "throw away" instructors who ski bum for one season vs. those of us that actually chose it as a career. They keep a fraction of those with higher certification to teach the throw away instructors. Its sad, because I watched a bunch of amazingly skilled instructors leave after 15-20+years of employment...

    LOL, I know this video is a week old by now, but I just happened to run across it last night. Although a skier by trade, some of my best friends (and my kids) are snowboarders. I have no problem with them. Here's a suggestion in dealing with the #1. My mountain of choice is Whistler, and even prior to Vail Resorts picking them up just over a year ago, they have a large "Mtn. Safety Department". You won't find them up near the Harmony Horshoes or in Glissandro Glades, but you sure as hell see them towards the end of the day when they crawl out of the woodwork, just as you want to ski down the mountain to your beer, hottub, whatever. My way of dealing with them was to buy a Yellow parka (which they all wear as a uniform, to differentiate from the real safety people, the ski patrol) . I ski down the trails at a pretty good clip, getting air over the rollers, and there they are, standing by their "SLOW" signs, and what do they do? They just stand there and wave at me with a friendly smile. They think I'm one of them! Trust me, it works.

    Minnesota shredder that took a year and worked mountain safety for Vail Resorts. There’s 2 types of Mountain Safety employees: 1. Mr bag of dicks that you described 2. Shredders who don’t piss off people that know how to ride which then they get yelled at by the boss to write more warnings so we just pull Jer Bear’s passes so season pass holders have less people to deal with.

    Vail bought the largest resort in Australia in 2015 and every year since without fail they've increased lift ticket prices by a pretty significant margin. Day pass lift tickets used to be AU$120 per day before the acquisition, last season around peak season (August) prices were about $160-170 if you bought it at the ticket office on the day. Rumour is they're upping it by $10 again for the 2019 season. The worst thing is the resort is inside a national park so parking there is limited, Perisher (the resort) has gotten around this by building an underground railway which goes down to a neighboring valley but a one way trip is $30 so realistically lift passes will come to $220-230 a day (US$158-165). Prices have risen too in response to Vail at the other major resort in my state. On top of this the only town that's close enough to the major resorts operates as a local government sanctioned cartel where all the businesses have agreed to keep prices artificially inflated and also to never allow any chain stores to set up shop. This is because the entire town basically becomes a ghost town during summer and all the businesses there have to make as much money as they can from June to September.

  • @Loosebirnieee

    @Loosebirnieee

    @@HuyLy94 the answer to that is pushing mountain biking for summer! The more resorts push mountain biking in summer the more realistic the economy.

  • @HuyLy94

    @HuyLy94

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@Loosebirnieee The 2nd largest resort (Thredbo) do push mountain biking they have professional comps there during our summer. Unfortunately that resort has its own village at the bottom whereas Perisher doesn't because they don't have a head lease from the National Park service so the only land they can use is the land directly below the existing buildings and the chairlifts so they can't develop any biking facilities, the result is everyone just stays at Thredbo during summer so the town (Jindabyne) becomes a ghost town.

    #1 Chairlift operators that are more concerned with scanning your ticket than controlling the lines by making certain chairs are full. It's the difference between standing 20 minutes in line or standing 5 minutes in line. Skiers/snowboarders must complain when you see long lines and empty chairs. That is your hard earned money being spent to stand in line.

    My local Mountian resort now has 2 season passes that you need for an actual every day pass. You buy a season pass but it doesn’t come with “peak days” which is Saturday and Sunday, so you have to buy ANOTHER “peak day” pass to be able to have a legitimate season pass. The move was to lower crowding, but the lines are the same this year, and it just screws over ski racers like me or snowboarders/ who ever else who trains on the Mountian several times a week by making us have to sell a freaking kidney to get on the snow.

Austria it is easier to become an instructor (basic level), but you still have requirements and getting to a higher level you really need to be good. Oh and those people from number 1? Austin Minnon yeah but most of the time the stupid ski footrest always gets in the way and I’m firmly planted in the chair.i see these videos of people falling off lifts and i wonder how it is even possible. If i truly Felt unsafe without it i would use them more.

    1. When you buy an unlimited season pass. And then Vail sends you an email saying " You got some free days in this season" . cost of pass ÷ number of days 2. Safety patrol is a summit/eagle county well fare program for "the right"

    Snowboard instructor working in hire for the season and I agree, talked to other instructors that did a fucking 3 day course, that's it. Pisses me off I had to work unpaid "shadowing" 35 hours, get a first aid cert, pay for my own background check, do a week long course and write a fucking dissertation on teaching to get to where they were. And if they want to get to the level I am now they can just do a 1 week course when I needed a further 300hours teaching, 2 weeks tech and teach training, more first aid, another background check and the pass rate is still like 60%. So I figure I will just join them skiing to get my dual cert because why do it the hard way to become a better instructor if you get paid the same.

    'He tries to grab me, he is going down!' 🤣 So so so true... Sad thing is I am the 'polite/gentle' type, although swearing in heart, but can't say the rude word out... Being there, really understand how it feels of being a beginner, but never able to understand the common inconsiderate type of beginners - never care to give way when they're clearly blocking the traffic, doesn't matter how much room you give them, they're just determined to run into you try to use you as a cushion before falling, and try to block/grab you when getting on and off the chair lift. No sympathy from me there, I call that pure selfishness and self centered.
