Pajero is very underrated, more equipped than people expect, the last of the previous model came with a good safety package which is relevant still today and reliable providing maintenance is upkept
Would like to know where theses td42 patrols are for $15,000

Early 90s full of rust with over 500k in Australia lol have seen some stupidly priced td42 gq and gu's lately. Not complaining tho as a gu owner knowing the value is just rising

I seen one for $11000 grand at sims metal. I think that's gotta be the most expensive piece of scrap metal ever
Love my Gen 3 Pajero. Paid $3500 for it 3 years ago and could sell it for at least twice now. Damn Covid Tax. You can find many early Gen 4 Pajero's for under 15k still though. They are the most underrated 4x4 on the market though thats for sure. All those Landcruiser & Patrol owners wont admit how good they are even when one recovers them and then drives the same line with no issues.

The most under-rated 4wd is the Jackaroo.
4.2 patrol for $15k? Maybe a tb42 gq.
Here's something you've probably never heard of. I have a 2006 Hyundai Terrcan, which is based on the Gen 2 Pajero platform. A small lift, good tyres and our Terry can often keep up with the rest of the pack.

What are you thoughts on the 90 series prado?
No chance of finding a GU patrol with the 4.2 at that price…none whatsoever
No way you can get a 4.2 gu patrol under 15k in reasonable condition in Australia, 3.0l would make more sense. Also Cherokee XJ, FZ-FE 80-105 cruiser and Mitsubishi Challenger PB with factory diff lock should be in that list

How about a review of some 4wd vans like the HiAce, Delica etc?
2 cars i think deserve an honourable mention, if not a space on the list, are the Subaru Brumby or Brat as some know it as as the Daihatsu Rocky.

Can you please do a "best 3t+ towing" vehicle fpr under 20k!
Was having a discussion with a diesel mechanic today. He thinks petrol engine 4x4’s are pretty good. And do ok out in the bush. Maybe abit less torque but still ok to have. Each to their own I guess

It's the old save money in fuel consumption but higher maintenance costs vs higher fuel consumption vs lower maintenance costs Ken. There is no clear and definite answer as each owners scenario will dictate the best choice for them. - AK

Good list but 4.2 patrols are expensive.
I can go anywhere I want in either of my Pajeros/Monteros. Very overbuilt.
Put the Pajero alongside the Hilux for going bush. The Jimmny should be 4th on your list, great offroad but can't carry enough gear or fuel for longer trips. Any Jeep can go dead last, unreliable to go far from home and parts prices are stupid. A GU Patrol in good nic can't be bought under 15k
Wow.. the Gen 3 Pajero in Indonesia cost between AUS$35K - AUS$45K … i love these 90s SUV …. 🥰

Damn I might have to sell mine over there. I paid $3500 for my Gen 3. You can easily find Gen 4 for under $15k now.

If I want an off-roader I’d go Land Cruiser, no question about it. You can pick up a 2010 LC for 15k where I live

I have a t31 and it sometimes struggles to get up my (admittedly fairly steep) concrete driveway if it is raining, I don't think they are very capable off road. That said, I do like the car.

Only on vehicles that have been abused or subjected to towing well past the recommended weight limits. - AK
I’d take that Jeep off this list very quickly 😂 at least it was honest about them breaking all the time. But look, if you’re off road you’re often in the middle of nowhere and the last thing you want is having to fix your car, especially a car that doesn’t have spare parts as easily available as a Toyota or Nissan.

best under 15k 4x4 should be the Jeep Grand Cherokee WK. This quadra drive II is just amazing.

I have a WH jeep Grand Cherokee V6 diesel and it's great off road and a great tow vehicle, but you will have no chance of getting a WK with quadra drive II for under $15k.

Not sure if the 4.0L inline 6 cyl and NV3550 5 spd combination was available in Australia but those Jeep powertrains were bulletproof. Unfortunately the last ones were from 2006.

Patrol over the Wrangler reliability counts
I am concerned for used cars with turbo. Generates too much heat, bad for itself and other components in engine bay. Maybe I am exaggerating? How long does a turbo last?

That's a bit of a how long is a piece of string question mate. There are turbocharged cars from the 1980's still running around without an issue so, potentially, if maintained correctly, 30 years or so? - AK

The US infiniti is not really the same and cannot compare to the global Nissan patrol as its to its structural strength, durability and reliability; the Infiniti is less of these, they are more focused on the classy side of American driving lifestyle. I noticed here the commercial van Nissan NV300 shares a striking similarity to the Nissan patrol pickup platform and they’re reliable and tough.

In 30 years I have broken plenty of Hilux's. Yes they're a good thing but don't belive the unbreakable BS. It's simply not true. It stands out because it is way less shit than many of it's competitors. Many of which are not as shit as hyped up to be and are half the price.

you totally missed Nissan Pathfinder R50. Or is it just me?
You didn't even mention the fact that the Hilux went to the north pole :(
At this price point a Discovery 2a should be on the list, just avoid the V8 unless you own an oil refinery.

A GU Patrol with 4.2 engine for under $15k you are dreaming, 30 to 50k the prices are insane. The 4WD I have and they are under 15k and its a WH 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee V6 diesel and it's great, only a drive shaft bearing in over 11 years and 120,000klm's. And this thing about HiLux being indestructible, it's a Toyota gimmick and boy people have taken it hook, line and sinker.
