Top 5 Japanese Kickboxers

Спорт

With Japan known as a birth place of many Martial Arts they have produced some of the best fighters across multiple combat sports. They created the K-1 and the K-1 Max which have produced some of the most famous kickboxers in the world. Buakaw, Albert Kraus, Artur Kyshenko, Andy Souwer, Peter Aerts, Remy Bonjansky, Ernesto Hoost, Jerome Le Banner, Bob Sapp, Mirko Cro Cop, Mark Hunt, and so many more have made their names through the K-1 organisation!
Japan itself is sometimes over looked with producing quality fighters with their own unique flair and style so I chose my 5 favourite Japanese kickboxers to highlight in this short tribute video.

    @@nefaakjacktown118 That is a bit far fetched. I love the beautiful throws of muay thai and how tactical and technical they are. If Japan would improve on their clinch, elbows and throws in kickboxing, they would have almost the perfect striking art.

    Of all the stand up strikers, Japanese kickboxers have the best boxing. I can watch them throw hands for hours, and since many of them have some kyokushin karate experience it almost adds a flare. I love Japanese kickboxing ❤️🎎

    Yea I mean the history behind Japanese kickboxing is also interesting because it basically formed other styles of kickboxing like European and Dutch style kickboxing, but also how it was formed with competition with martial arts like Muay Thai. As well as having some of the best boxing in kickboxing. But you also missed out on Toshio fujiwara who actually trained satoshi kobayashi

    Miyamoto Musashi , not Masashi 宮本武蔵. please correct. the clean , sharp Japanese kickboxing style is the old showa style that were invented during period of showa, when kickboxing was introduced to Japan and Japanese trained as karate- boxing極真空手 Kyokushin- karate is the base for Japanese kickboxing punching techniques. nowadays its difficult to find a trainer with this style unless it was carried on to the apprentices. majority of Japanese pro kickboxers and wanna be pros train Muay Thai because the young generation think Muay Thai looks cooler than simple, direct and sharp showa styles...... majority of kickboxing gyms in Tokyo don't have trainers with showa style knowledges.

    Can't see a difference between the dutch style and japanese style. Maybe dutch fighters have more power but the japanese have better speed. Idk but the japanese kickboxing handwork is prolly on par or better than the dutch.

  • @prostriking

    @prostriking

    2 жыл бұрын

    Ye there are a lot of similarities for sure! I think your right with the power/speed. Like the Dutch seem to sit down on punches a lot more where as the Japanese fighters tend to throw faster bursts of combinations. I also think defensively a lot of the Japanese fighters can be a bit slicker. They kick a little bit different too and favour the snap kicks rather then the muay thai roundhouse kick! Thanks for the comment! 😄

    What is your opinion on Tadashi Sawamura? I've read that some of his fights were fixed, which could make sense because he was the one who made kickboxing famous so they needed to create a legend to promote the new sport, but I've read that he was also very good and he won a lot of legit fights.

  • @prostriking

    @prostriking

    There just isn't a lot of information on the history of kickboxing and irs hard to get hold of the footage of older fights! Some of the books aren't available in English to it's really hard to know a lot! I think Tadashi was definitely a pioneer but his record seems a hit unrealistic given that he had hundred of fights and a 97% ko ratio haha! With the love of wrestling in Japan and its influence on martial arts (pride were known for bout fixing too) I think that he probably would have had some rigged fights but like you said I don't think that takes away from the fact he was a brilliant fighter

    Japanese kickboxing is just muay thai with some flashy kicks from karate, kurosaki abandoned karate and learned muay thai from the Thais, he even took the rules from muay thai and it was like that for many decades, just look at the k1 fights of the golden era, it was muay thai without elbows, hell, even masato and other kickboxer used the armbands that every nak muay uses. the influence of muay thai on kickboxing is undeniable. and it's much bigger than karate.

He and his son trained with an unknown Thai to experiment Karate bouts with boxing gloves because Kumite in his homeland shifted from armored sparring with hard hits (Bogu Kumite) to point fighting (Ippon Kumite) since post-WW2 periods.
