@@thebookworm6554 sure. The best books I've read so far this year is; Take Your Turn, Teddy by Haley Newlin and Witch Hunt by Syd Moore. Hope you will give them a try. They are very dark and moody. 😊

The Victorians wrote the best ghost stories, especially the short stories. There is NOTHING like The Turn of the Screw. I’m in the camp of the ghosts being real, and when James himself was questioned about it, he said his intention was to write a ghost story, and that’s good enough for me. There are parts of that book that still give me the chills, even after several readings. It’s one of the best. Another novel that could be interpreted the same - was the ghost real or was the main character losing her mind? Julia” by Peter Straub. A ghost story where the ghost is that of a 12 year sociopathic little girl. Very creepy, low key, slow burner, just the way I like them! I read “The Little Stranger” by Sarah Waters last year - LOVED it!! The doctor and his obsession about his class, his obsession with that house - that is what drove the paranormal events in that novel. Maybe the family too in some ways, but mostly, it was Dr Faraday.

I recommed , although it is not a novel, the scary short story called "The Old Portrait" by Hume Nisbet

By the way, that's Dmitri Shostakovich 's ghost? I suppose so by the glasses 🤓.

I am curious do you read any creature feature stories? Something along the lines like 2017 The Ritual, Antlers or 2015 The Witch? I'm in search of books with that spooky creepy feel for my 20 year old. I was eyeing, The Wendigo by Algernon Blackwood. Any suggestions?

When it comes to creature features I'm more of a movie fan, prefer to watch them as opposed to reading about them. I would like to read The Ritual, since I really enjoyed Nobody Gets Out Alive by the same author, but other than that I'm not much of an expert.
