Top 5 Failed Sneaker Technologies Part 2
After the unplanned success of the first video on 5 Failed Sneaker Technologies, I made a follow up video with more suggestions from you guys. FYI I also didn’t know reebok Zigtech was so coveted by yall in middle school! In this video I will discuss 5 more failed sneaker technologies.
#5 British Knights Dymacel
Year - 1991
British Knights introduced Dymacel, their first technology shoe in 1991. The technology consisted of diamond-shaped green silicon cushioning embedded within a sole window. This was to effectively absorb shock by dispersing vertical impact energy into a horizontal plane while maximizing energy return. Dymacel maintains its memory after repeated compression.
Fun fact - MC Hammer signed an endorsement deal with BK in 1990, also these were know as BKs = Blood Killers by crips, not a good look by the brand.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British...
#4 Adidas MegaBounce 2008
Leather
New, improved MegaBounce heel cushions even better, turning every impact into forward momentum
Molded EVA insole for anatomical comfort
adiPRENE+ insert for forefoot propulsion and efficiency
Bounce technology provides optimized energy return and step-in comfort
www.complex.com/sneakers/2012/...
#3 Converse - Helium Technology
Sneaker Shown: Converse All Star He:01
Year: 1999
Why would Nike ever use Air? It's so heavy, right? Well, that's the idea Converse attempted to build on when it introduced its Helium cushioning, which not only boasted superior comfort but also a lighter overall shoe due to the inert gas' lower atomic weight. Though Helium may be the second lightest periodic element, sales and the He:01 proved that Nike Air plays second fiddle to no one.
Converse was purchased by Nike in 2003
#2 - LA Gear Catapult
Released in 1991
The LA Gear equivalent of Air Jordans, a high-end basketball shoe and training shoe line. The original spokesman for the line was Karl Malone. This featured a supportive high cut and a Power feedback system, similar to Nike Air.
Reference Images and discuss Technology
Fun Fact the Creator Mark Goldston also created Reebok Pump, LA Gear Lights, and Hexalite, his son founded APL - the sneaker banned by the NBA that was similar to the Catapult

#1 - Sketchers shapeups
April 2009 $100 a pair
Paid out $40 Million to settle “toning Shoes” lawsuit claiming to deceive consumers.
A Shape-ups ad telling consumers to “Shape Up While You Walk,” and “Get in Shape without Setting Foot in a Gym,” and claiming that the shoes are designed to promote weight loss and tone muscles. The FTC alleges that Skechers made unsupported claims that Shape-ups would provide more weight loss, and more muscle toning and strengthening than regular fitness shoes.
Shape-ups ads featuring celebrities including Kim Kardashian and Brooke Burke. Airing during the 2011 Super Bowl, the Kardashian ad showed her dumping her personal trainer for a pair of Shape-ups. The Burke ad told consumers that the newest way to burn calories and tone and strengthen muscles was to tie their Shape-ups shoe laces.

I had the adidas mega bounce technology shoes for running back then and it actually worked pretty well. Absorbed the impact real well. Downside was that when you walk in the grass and step on dog shit you would not feel it so you had to find out by the smell. It looks crappy but did it's job before boosts were introduced.

The Adidas bounce were so good. One of the best running shoes I have owned. I didn't want to throw them out but treads once worn go straight to the plastic support structure.

Dope vid 👍
My friend loved the shape up's, she actually stocked up on them and kept a look out for them, mainly because she worked in retail and all that extra sole made them super comfy and with her being 5' tall they made her taller LOL

A New tech that I liked is the DNA midsole from the Brooks Levitate. I found it different then the boost (Ultraboost), better response then pureboost DPR and it is definitely better cushioning bounce then my Nike Vomero 12.

Spirea had a inner leaf style spring in the shoe. The company had a single model for running and one for basketball then possibly one for tennis or the few tennis players the wore Spirea just used the low top basketball model.

Oh.. my god.. dymacels 😂 i forgot about those!
I actually had the catapults! lmao..the DMX's were actually awesome to ball in!
I had 2 pairs of Adidas Megabounce, it was definitely before 2008 and they were some of the most comfortable sneakers I ever had. Reebok Pumps were definitely not a fail tech, in early 90s when I played bball they were very popular, along with Cons React which I loved the most, especially the all blacks with a little bit of yellow gel in heal area, so awesome. Its a shame none had lasted more then 2 months of intense bball training.
i enjoy these back in time stuff.
Bro, thank you for your content. I know your juggling a lot with fam, career, Landlording (I just made that word up), and KZread. But I very much appreciate coming home from work and watching my Boy Hes educate me. For real. Big UPs from Brandon, FL brother!!!
I actually wore some shape ups for a few weeks lol, it felt like wearing moon boots, they did have a ton of cushion
Great vid as always, hes. Crazy how Zigtec failed, it was so big
I love the hexalite tech , still have the reebok kamikaze 3 , love those 🔥
Ahhh the reebok DMX shoes from '97-'98. Was about to suggest those. Glad to see those in the runner ups.
Definitely do a top 5 best sneaker tech video
I had a pair of mega bounce in college, I loved them.
The Reebok Pumps were for specific people. I had (and still have) narrow feet as a teen. The inflation of the tongue helped secure the top of my foot into position. The Pumps weren’t for everyone but they served their purpose.
I used to wear Reebok Zigtechs and Pumps. Neither of these failed. I loved them when I wore them. For someone with bad ankles and knees who suffers from shin splints regularly, these two techs really helped make me more comfortable.
these fails are way more satisfying than the previous one because here the issues are more centered on the tech itself failing rather than the conditions surrounding it's release

The adidad megabounce was GREAT! I owned 2 pairs and they were the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. and the look of the sole was awesome to my point of view... I cannot understand why it was a failure.
You are the best bro😁😁😁
I remember in elementary school you were the shit if you had zigs or shoes from the Brand DC
Those adidas bounces at 2:57, I have those, they are now my yard work/auto repair shoes and have been for like 9 years

I have the Bape Reebox pumps and they are some of my fav shoes period
The idea that shapeups would help you lose weight was ridiculous. But they were really comfortable and the round bottom design actually put the impact from waking more onto the entire foot instead of hitting the heel first like more square bottom designs.
@sevierhere
Жыл бұрын
Well suited for flat feet....just as the rocker soles are now recommended by podiatrists for flat feet.
Sorry Hes Kicks, but I remember when all of these technologies were out, and I can assure you LA Gear catapults were in no way ever the equivalent to Jordans. The biggest non-Nike Jordan competitor in the 90's were Reebok pumps, Grant Hill Filas were pretty big as well. LA Gear may have tried to compete with the catapult, but I knew no one with them, and in actuality LA Gears Light Gears were way more popular.

Remember the Adidas Bounce. Used to have them and blindly loved them. They felt amazing for walking, but once you started running, they became rock solid. 😂

Me too. He doesn't known what he talking about
2:56 i had similar shoe like this but not all the way covered with bounce, it had leagher on top, and lasted for 5 years the shoe looks like new rofl still using them for yard
Do more fail technologies! They are pretty interesting. And do the best tech and forgotten shoe brands
I'm glad APL at least got a mention. They're banned from the NBA because they actually give a competitive advance according to the league so I guess the tech actually works. Price point was super high if I recall correctly
What's your take on crazy shoes featured in Unbox therapy? I tried them and I have mixed feelings about it.
I loved the Reebok pumps 😢😢 so many good memories
The reebok pumps bring back some memories lol. I think that technology was bigger in hockey skates, because I remember a lot of people wearing them back when I played, and it made a lot more sense there than on sneakers
U really even put la gear in here..i was like tf..😂😂
i have never heard if helium shoes but in science class i was looking at the table of elements and thought they should make helium filled nike air
Converse Suspension System in the Converse Wade 4. I had the shoe and it made a hollow thud sound when it struck the floor.
Skechers rebrands many other footwear: Skechers Shape Ups were originally MBT (Masai Barefoot Technology). Similarly, Skechers Tone-ups are rebranded FitFlops.
We need a part 3
Had a bounce running shoe and the old adidas team basketball shoe, those were really awesome. I wish they were still around
I had a pair of Adidas Bounce. They were awesome! While jogging they really bounced.
Yoooooo! I had those Reebok’s when I was in 6th grade they stayed in my pe locker and I remember they were so clunky and awkward that one day when we were running on the track I fell and scraped my knee really bad.
I was so jealous of my friend who had the zigtechs in elementary school😭😭 this vid took me back😭🙏
owned a pair of the T-Mac Adidas shoes w the screw in the back that tightened a wrap around the upper cable. $210.00 for a youth size shoe was ridiculous, at the time, but I was so stoked when I bought em’. fast forward to after wearin em’ for 2 weeks, casually and to hoop in, and my feet was tore up. they, legit, made the inside arches of my feet bleed.
Thanks for the awesome memories don't forget the Adidas "1" used a small motor and computer to adjust the sole. I think Nike has tried to use electronics too with the Hyper adapt
I played in a number of pairs of LA gear catapults, including the Mailman shoes I found them more comfortable than the David Robinson shoes of the time.
Had some tubes in junior high! Things were crazy
I used to have a pair of reebok atv 19 shoes when I was in like 4th grade. They were super comfortable and actually good running shoes.
I love my OG dee brown pumps and on last retro I paid retail which considering they now go for close to a grand it's crazy.

Hey hes kicks what do you think of the Nike flightposite 2
I had a pair of kswiss tubes. They made great trail runners.
The MegaBounce were awesome! Super comfortable and cushiony.
back in high school I used to rock my pair of adidas bounce day in and day out, those used to be super comfy. Some years later after they were worn out I bought new ones but thought that wasn't my style anymore. Still got them and I'm considering wearing for training actually, since back in the days it was aesthetical and cheaper than nike shox. those feature the springs in the heels only and my sister used to have the whole sole ones in a light blue which I used to think were even cooler than mines
i came up on zig tech i cannot lie. we boosting and maxing now but never forget where you came from 😂😂😂
Top 5 forgotten brands And top 5 best tech. Would love to see a video for both
Everytime when I'm buying sport shoes, I always looked for shoes that I can diy repair. And one of them is one layer outsole.
Converse also used that helium tech for the skate shoes they made in the late 90s
With the a3 back in 2009 I broke my left leg, butt I would like to buy a pair nowdays because of the look 😁
I still have my L.A. Lights. I have to smack them pretty hard to get them to light up, but they still work.
I currently work at skechers; and every once in a while there's a customer that asks for the shape-ups. Seeing it at #1 made me laugh a little.
Thanks kick I'm buying a pair of zigtecs and the bubble ones I forgot the name of
I recall technologies to close the sneaker by turning a disk and there was also something that required you to pump air into the sneaker after putting it on. At the time I thought they were dead on arrival but I don't know how well they fared tbh
The old bounce tech was 🔥. I tried a pair I bought recently and it faired well compared to the new tech. And real hexalite and dmx were awesome. It's a shame that Reebok retros have a watered down version
