I feel like the Maximus X Hero was overlooked here. Maybe it fell between the categories. Depending on what's important to you, it is IMO a slightly better board than most in the "enthusiast" category, and it does almost everything the ridiculously expensive "money is no object" boards do, other than fairly silly stuff like plastic "armor" around the PCIe area, and a waterblock for the VRMs. (If you really want to water cool VRMs, a monoblock is still cheaper, and much fewer tubes and fittings.) Only real feature the Hero lacks is dual LAN, which I don't think is needed that often on home PCs.

To decide between the Asrock Exteme 4, Asus Prime or the Asus Strix H/G....Hmmm, which is the best one of them all? Gonna build an I7-8700k and 1080 TI/ 11 Series Rig

just pulled the trigger on an msi gaming 5, i had the z97 version of this board and its served me well. hope the new one is just as good.

Great review on the motherboards. It helps identify what build route you want to take whether it would be a full size or a micro atx.

i've got the asrock z370 gaming k6, which is basically the same as the extreme 4. 8700k at 5.1ghz 1.35v under load pulling 200w, the vrm never exceeds 65c. both boards have the same vrm and i can highly recommend both for their features and power delivery at that price point, it's basically unbeatable.

I went for the extreme 4 with the 8700k, ddr4 4000mhz, h115i pro and not delidded but oc'ed to 5ghz with no trouble and under pressure doesn't cross high 70's f. great mobo

nice video idea. You should make a new one with each new generation to come out in the future.

these mixed reviews are mostly due drivers issues, i've read on different sites that you need to update the bios prior to install windows, if you don't you get windows malfunction or bsod, another driver issue thing is the ethernet drivers for internet..., but when it comes to overclock, memory speed and vrm temps, it's a pretty good deal for the money

Hello, What is the best value for money z370 board right now? I have noticed that the extreme 4 was recommended by most but now a lot of the ASUS ROG Strix Z370-G, f, E are recommended.

When you spent too much on the Z370 Asus Hero Wifi. Great video Steve. If I was more patient and hadnt bought so early I would have bought a different board. All good though, I will have this one for a few years hopefully without issue.

I really appreciate this video. Finding motherboards can be tedious for novice as well as expert PC builders, the KZread tech channels (in general) seem to be sponsored a lot by ASUS. Don't get me wrong, I like ASUS boards, I had nothing but good experiences. But buying by brand can be a bad idea. I feel like we are seeing different suppliers messing up for different chipsets. Bummed my MSI Z370M Gaming pro AC didn't get a mention in the mATX section.

That Asus Z370I is just amazing. The little things make it even better, for example they include 4 Sata cables, two of those have a 90 degree plug so it would fit on the side ports. It is expensive but for me it was one of the best looking boards. Plus I've got a free Kingston A400 120GB SSD so it was an easy pick.

I got the asrock extreme4 motherboard with my 8700k. Its an excellent motherboard for its price and easy to overclock with.

Got a pair of old 500GB IDE hard drives on a shelf I always imagined I'd throw into a build to house some backups. Now, so late to the party, I notice motherboards don't come with even 1 IDE port anymore. Those days are over. Even finding an enclosure for IDE drives is a bit of a challenge these days.
