Higher end (anything above k5)Gigabyte boards are awesome when you look at them from a physical standpoint, they look nice, have good on board features and are usually decently priced.. BUT, the bios and fan control are horrible, the app center(including rgb fusion) and other software are extremely half baked which got me so frustrated that i would go back to another brand, it’s hard for me to recommend them until they fix these bios and software issues

Can someone help out a total noobie PLEASE? I'm wanting to get into PC and VR gaming and have decided to build my own even though I don't have the knowledge on the parts over the years I've worked on PC's and laptop's that I'm confident about building one if I can get with choosing the right parts. I'm pretty set on using the Intel i7 8700K unless there's a huge price drop on the Ryzen 1950X before I order parts. Haven't decided on the case yet but leaning towards a full tower if nothing else for the room or a the roomiest mid tower I can find. What I'm needing help with right now is which Motherboard to get and if it matters I don't do online gaming although that may change after I get this built but I'd still say 90% of the time will be single player gaming. I'm going to put what I'm wanting in my PC in a list so I don't miss anything. If there's anything else you think I would need please say so. THANK YOU !!! 1. HAS to be VR ready!! 2. Multiple monitors (at least 3) 3. 4 RAM slots. 4. 2 M2 slots, ability to use Intel Optane Memory ready for the M2. 5. Easy Overclocking 6. 3 PCIe 3.0 x 16 and Express slots. 7. USB 3.0/3.1 Gen 2, USB type C (front port a ++++), 3.0 Gen 1 and 2.0. THE MORE THE BETTER! 8. 4 pin connectors for lights RBG,fans, etc etc again the more the better. 9. A gaming port would be nice but not necessarily. 10. Not getting too crazy on the price

jdj62464 I’m in a similar boat. I finally settled on the ASRock Z370 Extreme4. I managed to snag it in a bundle on Newegg with an 8700k for a pretty decent price. People seem to have nothing but good things to say about this motherboard and what it offers for it’s price point. It’s down to like $140 now on its own. Most other boards are loaded with bells and whistles, and I wanted to focus more on my GPU and CPU, so I’m pretty confident in my decision here. They also have a 20% off coupon code for Corsair ram going around as well, so I snagged up 2x8gb (16gb) 3000mhz cards for around $175 while I was at it.

You know you are getting old when you read all the comments and a majority are about _how it looks_ or the _RGB_ . I guess I am in the minority now though that is only concerned with _what it can do for the price_ and all these MB's do roughly the same thing. I don't mind that people are going for flashy rigs - that's cool too, but as a composer, I am looking for a silent and discrete build, no RGB or on-board audio needed. The ASRock extreme 4 looks good to me.

Just ordered an ASRock Z370 Taichi. I am very excited to set it up. It will be my first build ever! 1080 ti ftw3, Corsair H115i, Evga G3 850W, 8700k, Samsung evo 850 500gb ssd, 16gb of Corsair Vengeance RAM, and a Corsair 750d airflow edition. Also got some Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste, anti static wrist strap, and a magnetic bowl to hold me screws.

speakerlover13 I have no issues. The onboard AC wifi is great. It also has reinforced pcie slots so my heavy ftw3 has zero sag. It has 3 usable m.2 slots. I think the AC wifi is using the 4th. It is a gaming beast. Great price point compared to asus boards with similar specs. I highly recommend it. The uefi is easy to use too. If you have any questions about it let me know. I have been obsessed with every component in my build. Lol

motherboard manufacturers need to stop supporting legacy connections. its not even worth the cost or effort to support it if not even 1% of the board users even use that connection. Plus adapters are available for pretty cheap.

Ok - ATX needs to die! The days of PS2, DVI, 6-7 PCI slots are gone for MOST of us. If m-ITX had one more PCI slot it would be perfect. With SLI slowly dying and USB getting faster SFF covers about 85% of the community I would guess.

Momiji But SLI is dying and that is a fact. I'm not saying there is no need for it, but MOST people are good with one card. Honestly ask yourself, what do you normally see in most builds? 1 GPU and maybe a WiFi card. Everything PCI slots were good for are now standard on mobos (NIC, sound, USB, basic video). ATX is a relic.
