    Good list. I love the first 4, in Oregon, you CAN score Rovers relatively cheap, but need astronomical $$$ repairs. I have a friend that buys cheaps used Rovers, always beautiful. He drives them till they break. Sometimes 3 years, sometimes 3 months, and then he just finds another one.

    I think there are more capable off road vehicles, here it is and it is under 5000$ : 5 : Jeep Cherokee XJ 4 : Range rover classic 3 : Land rover discovery 1 2 : Suzuki Jimny 1 : Lada niva any off those out perform the Jeep wrangler in stock form or the ones in your list and and tested in the field, with few mods it will outperform anything , nice channel! keep it up.

  • @VehicleTribe

    @VehicleTribe

    Yeah, that is why I mentioned: "My personal choices" anyone can disagree with this list. Now, have in mind I also tried to put reliable vehicles within the USA in here, so Lada Niva, for example, is not an option in the USA market, Land Rover Discovery is a very capable overlander but is not the most reliable or the most versatile offroader(also parts are expensive and hard to maintain). Thank you for your input!

    jeep cj's are great offroad! theres more cj parts available than any other. theyre like an offroad lego set. not to mention they come un different wheel bases. 3 things though... avoid the quadra tracks. full time four and no low range, they work great if youre just handling on road problems like snow or muddy gravel roads. buy the ones made after '73, the frames are much better. the roll bar isnt complete, it does have kits to extend them forward. those land rovers drop transmissions like dogs crap. ive had 4 of them waiting for transmission rebuilds on the lot at one time. they all needed the same model transmission, and a rebuild was around $4000

    @@VehicleTribe no problem. any jeep is fun, even the old MB from the ford/willys years. amazing how those old jeeps went everywhere on less than 60hp in many cases lol. i love jeeps, but cant do what i need to do since i broke my back, to get in and out of the jeeps. the door is too narrow on all but the old gladiator pickups and the other full size jeep trucks. i miss off roading and i have most of what i need to set up a daily driver/weekend warrior. those seat lift systems take a lot of door clearance you cant get with a cj/yj/tj and i wont buy the fiat/chrysler. guess that means looking for a half or 3/4 ton jeep 4x4 pickup or a ford Hi Boy. owned one of each truck and they all worked great for me.

    Cost of entry on a bronco is cheap, however where they get expensive is when you start doing anything other than OEM parts, most everything has to be custom made and it gets extremely expensive very fast for just a mild build that will get out wheeled by a mostly stock jeep for half the cost.

    So, quite interestingly enough my first 4 x 4 was a two door five speed manual jeep Cherokee that was just stock. It was a 1994. I sold that and bought a 1993 4.0 I output jeep wrangler. It had a 3 inch lift with 31 inch tires. Years later my wife and I owned a Toyota Tacoma 4 x 4 lifted 2 inches with 31 inch all-terrain ‘s. Based on my experience with owning all three, The jeep wrangler comes in first place by a long shot. But come to think of it, The jeep Cherokee was also well capable! And to your point, The Tacoma was just as reliable in intermediate off routing. Definitely deserves a spot on the list!

    Andrew Sherman before doing this video I found at least 5 listings of Wranglers (YJ and TJ) in the 5K range, YJs are even cheaper nowadays. Depending on where you live in the US can be more challenging. Toyotas I found a lot of them under 5K. In terms of off-road parts, that’s not included in the value of these vehicles and I do not cover that in this video.

    88 to 95 Xjs are better than the others in my opinion. The 96s are the only xjs that don’t have many interchangeable parts. They are the old style body with new style plug ins. Also pre 91 YJs came with a 4.2 I6 which had some carb issues but are still great engines.

    The XJ isn’t even body on frame and they are more rare now a days the only 90s suv that’s all over the place is the 3rd gen 4runner, they are literally all over the place here in Florida u see them everywhere, and the 4runner does have good ground clearance u just need to get one without the running boards and they all came with skid plates as standard

    @@stevejunker8551 Ldmaoo most old jeeps on the roads are piles of junk leaking everywhere and fuming black smoke. But drive around the country and you’ll still see 3rd gen 4runners going at it like new. They’re extremely common in warm areas like Florida and California also Texas. While you’ll still have a hard time finding xj crossover cause it’s not even a real SUV with actual frame the 4runner or wrangler lfmaoo
