I also believe that the premise of the show would be classified as torture. In medieval, royalty would eat plenty of food in front of their subjects and prisoners as torture. Sure, having a number on screen representing a dollar amount is one thing, but look at the emotional moments during the show when they would lose most of the money and the physical money would drop away. It was torture. It was just made more obvious when they screwed that family.

The controversy came from the show, not the contestant. Prize prices were standardized, so faithful viewers would have an advantage. Bob Barker even called the concept "trusted fans and true." When asked about it afterward, Barker quipped that the show messed up with its response. Anyways, the episode was never aired, and The Price is Right denied itself at least a week of soft news free press.

Most of these aren't what I would call "scandals." Most if them are contestant or host screw-ups. It happens quite a lot where the judges rule against a contestant over a spelling error or mispronounced answer. I don't regard the "Press Your Luck" incident as a scandal, really. The guy figured out a loophole to exploit, which IMO is perfectly legit. The producers and creators of the game set the rules and it's up to them to make sure every detail is checked.

It’s totally messed up that Marc Summers was fired for a perception. There wasn’t any evidence that he was difficult or that his condition was or would impair his ability to host; it was just a false perception. If the Hollywood Squares producers had had any sense, they would have realized, “Wait a minute…Marc has been hosting Double Dare and What Would You Do [a Nickelodeon show from the early to mid-90s, not the 20/20 segment] for years without issues, so obviously he can host just fine! There’s nothing to worry about!” Instead they made false assumptions. If anyone ever asks why people with conditions can be reluctant to reveal them, show them that segment.

I watched a different show about bad things that happened on dating shows. And one of the worst was that one. After the person who is going to go on the date is picked. The couple get a chance to have a little time to get to know each other before they are suppose to jump in the limo and go on their date. They were the first couple so they got the longest time before the end of the show when they would have to do that weird thing about blowing a kiss to the camera and the audience. She refused to go back on stage and she refused to go on the date. During their pre date someone from the show came in as she tried getting away from him. He was holding her wrist. And the staff person came in and saved her. And they told her that they didn’t want her to go out with him and she agreed it wasn’t a good idea. Then they split the money and gave him half and her half and they snuck her out a back door and sent her home. Then when she called to say she was home they told him the date wasn’t happening and sent him home with his share of the money. Then within a few weeks to a month he was arrested for the murders. And the show and the woman realized that it was probably perfect that she didn’t go out with him because she probably would have been killed if she had.

There were a couple moments where he risked stopping at a Whammy: when he won a trip to the Bahamas and when he won a sailboat. Each case was a mistiming as he knew the next square that would light up was one of his target squares. The Bahamas square was the same one where he got his one and only Whammy. I was called several times and won hundreds and hundreds of dollars from GSN. I was receiving checks every week from them for over a year because of questions I got right. I really miss that show.

The Marc Summer story is a despicable crime. Disney being dirty, no surprise. "You Say We Pay", the bottom of the barrel of TV. I agree with her 100%, loosing her job because she got pregnant is disgusting and should never be a reason. Ked Al Kadani, (I got the name of the subtitles), didn't cheat, he found loophole. "Our Little Genius" 🤣 That kid was in jeopardy of winning. Funny how Richards was able to give himself the job of host. Ingram, MAJOR Idiot. Again, Larsson didn't cheat, he did his homework and found a loophole, but fate was foul to him. Quiz Show is a great movie. They scored a bullseye getting Cooper. Filthy Fox robbed that couple.

But their only claim to fame still came up. You could hear coughing after they got their first answer right and coughing was even an answer to a later question. Specifically instances were it is discouraged, something was laughed off. Something that did happen with celebrity editions. I saw former Big Brother contestants get 1984 questions for example.
