Thanks Steve. I've only seen a few of these. There's a long list of film noir I want to check out in those two decades.

I´ ve seen (several times) the three best placed, "Nigth of the Hunter", "Les diaboliques" and "Rififi" and they are absolut masterpieces, and also (only once) "Kiss me Deadly" and "Killer´s Kiss" . I don´t think so much talent could be found in a complete decade nowadays . I´ll try to see some of the other 25.

The 'talent' seems to have disappeared decades ago when the moguls apparently decided that only C.G.I. blockbusters would bring in the crowds to the surviving movie theater s.

I was 9 in 1955 & saw roughly 50 films in the theater that year! I consider '55 to be one of the greatest single years in motion picture history with both "film noir" movies & Class A pictures! Don't forget, movie houses still showed "double features", which meant that a person could see a Class B or second film, which could also be a "gem", such as these "noirs"!

1955 was probably the last great film noir year, but 56 and 57 does include a few 'gems'. Thanks for posting.

Doubtless, time given to see these well-researched titles, some B-movies, is worth our while, with the best of them at the top. Congratulations are in order for a nearly flawless presentation, if slightly rushed. The "but" you ask? Not all of them can be "noirs", strictly speaking, even in the expert hands of William Wyler or such greats. Some "crime" movies can be noirs, of course, but, imho, the genres are not interchangeable or else one of them is expendable. Kudos for the very fine effort.

I have 5 of these - "House of Bamboo:, "The Big Knife","Violent Saturday", "The Desperate Hours" and " Night of the Hunter". To think,all 5 films came out in 1 yr.That's why they called it the Golden Age of hollywood,I guess.

I haven't seen Violent Saturday but I have seen the other 4 in your list, all classics. Plenty here I want to see including Shack Out on 101 which I wasn't aware of before. Thanks for posting.

Great list of films. Fantastic stills and posters. It makes me realise how few of these films I have seen. Tight Spot House of Bamboo Violent Saturday Desperate Hours Night of the Hunter rightly at number 1. Charles Laughton the director pilloried at the time the film now recognised as masterpiece. I notice the film I died 1000 times there a scene by scene remake of High Sierra also remade as Western Colarado Territory 1949. Warner Bros sure got their money worth from that screen play. Riffifi my next film to hunt down.

Thanks. Since starting this series I've been surprised at how many interesting noir movies I've missed over the years. We need a streaming channel devoted to them

I have only heard of one of those movies. It just shows how long the media has been telling us what movies we should see by hyping up big movie stars with no talent that do thier bidding, which is the same in the music industry. But I guess we are all finding this out ourselves.

Trust me,there are some seriously good films in that list.Try a few - you won't be disappointed.

I suggest adding the director's name for ALL of the titles, not just a few selected ones...... this out of respect to them.
