I have watched the top 3. Classics. Every film aficionado must see them, not only the one who likes westerns. I've watched and Station West. Fine actors, mediocre film. But Jane Greer... Exhale! And her gowns in the movie, especially the one that you chose to show. Her character is some kind of Kathie Moffat taken from Out of the past and transported even further in the past.

At least you saw the 4 top rated films from this chart. I can't remember if I saw Yellow Sky. I will watch out for it next time it's on.

Gay Ranchero? Roy must have been in the vanguard long before we knew. Or maybe language chances, eh Fred Astaire of “The Gay Divorcee”? Errol Flynn looks visibly older each time we see him, career in steep decline, but he’s still getting great directors like Raoul Walsh and solid production values. But the insouciance is gone, burned up like a flame. Red River is a terrific film except for its last two minutes, a little self-consciously “epic” but with the cast and sweep and gritty sequences it requires. But John Wayne and Howard Hawks can’t quite match up with Bogart and Huston. Bogart is our biggest star ever but it’s hard to put your finger on exactly why. But we can see it and that’s what counts.

Great post Walter, thanks. When John Ford saw John Wayne in Red River he remarked, "I didn't know the son of a bitch could act."

@@Top10Charts3978 Thanks so much for this series. I’ve learned a lot and been thoroughly entertained. I thought I knew the post-1920s Westerns pretty well but there are many good ones still to see. Thanks again.
