    Yes! I had heard great things about this one from horror fans for the past few years but avoided it for so long because it looked like just another generic "possession-type"movie and I really don't care for those usually. But I finally watched it about a month and a half ago on Netflix and damn was it well done! It was not a typical possession movie like I thought but was something better and much scarier. Such a great horror gem 👍

    I dont get why people keep ranting and raving about that film when NOTHING HAPPENS during its entire runtime. There are 3 characters and none of them have any kind of development. There's no reason for the audience to care about these losers or the weird dead body. Worst horror movie I've watched.

    I have mixed feelings about the movie. I feel like uptil about the middle section of the movie, it was a unique horror movie with a one of a kind story. But at some point after, it just became a typical horror movie. Like the ending scene where the protagonist is surprised by the ghost of his father and falls off the stairs? So cliched and uninspired. It went from unique and possibly top tier horror movie to a cardboard cutout of a standard supernatural horror movie. I wish I could say that it was a true work of horrific art but in the end it had so much potential that was just wasted.

    Mine too. My Mom saw it at the movies when it came out and she told me about it 8yrs old.And right after it showed up on t.v. and like you I watched it every time as well. The book was republished a few years later. It's even as and more terrifying than the movie! There are 2 scenes not in the film, one that takes place in the daytime outside which froze my blood and stopped my breathing OMG. I don't think it was technically possible at the time although in "The Innocents" with Debra Kerr they kind of did.

  • @BKSHellFireFiend

    @BKSHellFireFiend

    7 ай бұрын

    @williampatrick2971 The plot, performances & visual storytelling from the 1963 film are absolutely superior when compared to the 1999 movie. Julie Harris played the female lead in the 1963 film. Her narrative performance is perfectly paired with her intense & expressive physical acting talents. The 1999 film was more of an attempt at exploring the capabilities of computer generated special effects in a horror film & it definitely fell short with its plot & character development. Also, the 2018 Netflix series is extremely well done. To be honest, its story is capable of being a success as a stand-alone film. If they'd changed the character names, film title & location names. No one would have associated it with the cinematic releases. TLDR: 1963 FILM = A Must Watch Horror Classic. (Rated G) 1999 FILM = Disappointing, fell far short of its movie trailer hype. Skip it. 2018 SERIES = Excellent! High-quality storytelling with a unique portrayal of the story's leading characters.

    i adore the ritual, the creature is so unique and well designed, and used sparingly; it's more atmospheric and situational horror. it's quite different from the novel, also, and better, in my opinion. the novel was also good but went in a totally different direction and relied a lot on being inside the characters' heads, without much of a monster present at all.

I went into it with low expectations and figured it would be cliche to a fault but instead, found a refreshingly well done and in my opinion, very well (but not perfect) paced horror movie that while it missed the mark here and there, it was still extremely good in a genre that is growing dull. I'd also add the movie on Hulu, "Pooka", another low expectation movie that delivered very strongly.

    It still holds up pretty well for an early ‘60s film. The fact we never see what is causing the sounds or whether the activity is real or in Eleanor’s head makes it more terrifying; plus it is in keeping with the novel
