It’s a good scene especially the fact that Casey hangs onto the phone in a “death grip“ and her Mom picks up the phone and can hear her. But overall the scene isn’t original. The teenage girl gets a phone call and is terrorized by the caller who is “in the house” or “can see you” trope has been done over and over in movies like (The Original) Black Christmas. Wes Craven was great he really paid homage in all his movies to og horror

@@ckotcher1 it may not be the original but Scream is the best one. I’ve seen Black Christmas and I don’t think it’s held up well. I’ve watched it recently and found the calls to be one of the weaker parts of the movie. Honestly, I think when a stranger calls did it better. The original with Carole Kane, of course.

There are two movies scenes that got me. The first is when Harry is in the garage of the Nostromo. He is standing under some water dripping and the xenomorph grabs him from above. Spilled a large popcorn over several people with the jump scare! In The Thing a mere touch was enough to be infected. Being the last to leave the theater (to avoid any touches) I got into my car at midnight. Leaving the parking lot, turning left, SOMETHING ran across the floor in my backseat. Instantaneously I pulled off the road and un-assed the car and locked the BACKSEAT HORROR in the car. My EDC flashlight was also instantly deployed illuminating said backseat. THERE IT WAS the unspeakable horror of a coke bottle, still rocking and mocking me. I seem to remember a malicious smile in the glass.

The hospital scene in Exorcist III is a masterclass in how to deliver an effective jump scare. Everything from the build up of the scene, the way the nurse goes in and out of different rooms, to the horrifying sound effect and the cut to the headless statue, comes straight out of the playbook of horror perfection.

@shanepatterson8946 That scene was absolutely horrifying and still is! And the words and sounds she is saying are so terrifying and realistic! That movie scared me more than anything ever. In fact, it traumatized my whole generation. All of us kids, (Five in my family) went to see it and my younger brother was crying on the stairs that night, and we were all afraid to take a bath or even sit on the toilet. We were afraid to go into the lake to swim. My Mum was so mad. She was yelling at us to get the heck into bed and that there were no damn sharks in our beds, our bathroom or anywhere near us and that "will be the last time I ever let you go to the movies without asking 30 questions first! What the hell kind of movie WAS that?!" And as time has gone on, I know it for the masterpiece it was. I still watch it again and again. The best or one of the best movies ever made. It should have won a best picture award. Even though I'm still afraid of deep water...

@@paulagwhyte1720 It's so funny because you're right, my friends didn't want to go in the damn pool, but I found Jaws the equivalent of a Godzilla movie. I saw it in theater at 6 or 7 years old and loved it, but I just saw the shark as the Hollywood version of a guy in a rubber suit - awesome spectacle but not real. It wasn't until later I realized that movie wasn't terribly unrealistic (in most ways).

One of the very few 'slasher' flicks with any real horror element to it. Helps that I watched it later at night at about age 10 in 1980 or so on Halloween night by myself because the baby sitter wouldn't watch it with me, but the music and the fact that it was all a new concept (at least to me) gave me real chills. I know this doesn't seem like a "big deal", but I'm 55 years old, been watching "horror" since I was 5 years old, nothing catches me off guard, spooks nor scares me, but that moment right there caught me off guard causing me to respond as if I was watching the news in real life.

I just can't stop rewatching the scene where the pale lady is attacking Chuck. She's actually slow, but everytime Chuck sees another pale lady, she seems closer just as if Chuck was just standing there, staring at her, waiting for her to make him be gone 👍👍👍. (Chuck is my favorite character😥). I feel like one of the upcoming horror films, such as the sequels to Scary Stories, Truth or Dare and Smile, I think either Scary Stories 2 or Smile 2 will beat Scary Stories 1. If Scary Stories 2 beats the original, it would be that, if not, definitely Smile 2 (But Joel is my favorite character😥). Before I found out that Scary Stories was actually my absolutely my favorite movie, I couldn't stop rewatching the scene where Bill was trying to save Dean from Pennywise in the glass-mirror maze

22:57 From this top, my main favorite one was The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974), as big fan of the franchise. What really makes that scene so scary and effective is its suddenness. There’s no build-up, no music that hints an upcoming fright; it’s completely silent except for the sound of the squealing pig. It’s the sound of the hammer making contact and how downright nasty it sounds and the way how Kirk drops to the floor in convulsions from the blow. The sound of the pig punctuates Kirk’s clumsy trip and the way Leatherface hits him again to make him stop moving before dragging him inside seals the terrifying deal of the whole attack. But the moment that ties it all together is when Leatherface slams the sliding door, and the music suddenly has a lasting sting that haunts the moment and leaves you sitting in shock. The entire scene doesn't even last a minute, it happens in a matter of seconds and yet it sets the tone for the rest of the movie and tells the viewers that what they’re watching is much more than just a typical slasher film. 15:06 Also Ju-on: The Grudge (2002) is one of my particular favorite ones, since this movie introduced me inside the J-Horror genre. The stairs scene when we first saw Kayako crawling down has become very iconic. Since the film makes use of little means to scare, but they are used in the most effective ways. And although this film has more budget it still relies on atmospheric terror and creepy ideas that are simple but all too scary. Some other scenes that I consider that are re-watchable are the lift scene and the bed scene were Rika is laying down in the bed and Kayako and Toshio are staring at her. But no other caused greater impact than the stair scene that even on the american remake from 2004 caused the same impact, or even greater.

I thought the Blair Witch Project was a documentary for years. I thought The Exorcist, the pea soup scene, the head spinning, oh so many scenes. I totally agree with Alien. The chest bursted scene was also frightening to the actors who didn’t know the way it was going to burst through. The Omen is also memorable to me, the death of the nanny for the dark lord. I still watch The Ring only in the daytime Final Destination and Death dealing with corpses in the morgue also has yuck factor.
