I've seen all the films on this list. And while they all shocked me, The Mist was the most shocking to me because, years before the film was made, I had read the short story. After leaving the store, their fate was ambiguous. They weren't shot and killed before the military showed up to save the day. They instead just continued to drive on. We never learn if they survive or not, though we do learn that David's wife died, having been killed and stuffed with spider-esque eggs. But we never learn if the mist is all over the world, or if they reach a safe haven before running out of gas. The story literally just ends with them driving off through the mist. So, to watch the film and see David kill them all, including his son, before the military showed up was not only a drastic change from the strory, but also unbelievably shocking and depressing.

that was actually fantastic! I know a lot of people lost hope in the series but I enjoyed it a lot (as well as 3 which isn't terribly loved). the only thing that kind of messes with this twist is the clothing and hair/makeup styles. they don't match with the time period (2000) but could easily be done since not everyone wears trends that would fully give away the time period, as well as old trends coming back which would explain some 'retro' looks. their clothing was very common during the time the movie was made (2011). this facet is what keeps the audience unaware but could've been done better imo

*SPOILER ALERT* *DO NOT READ FURTHER IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN AND WANT TO WATCH SHUTTER ISLAND* @@badkitty4922 It really was and not just because of the deaths, but because of what it did to Leo's character. There is still a stigma surrounding those with mental health disorders (I have Obsessive Compulsive, Major Depressive, and Generalized Anxiety Disorders myself) and it makes my heart happy that someone with as much clout as Leonardo DiCaprio is bringing these issues to the forefront of people's minds and presenting them in such a light that it is easy to see both the suffering and the potential mental health patients (of non-violent diagnoses) have to be productive members of society. That said, the deaths were just as important, as they were brought on by Postpartum Depression, which is a serious mental health condition in itself.

@@homeaccount5943Care to explain why? I mean I understand that some of of the stuff in his movies doesn’t really make sense. Like how does billions of people live in those hallways? But look past the plot holes they’re pretty good. Ok yeah, we knew that the family would be strange people that was made obvious. But Rose being in on it, is kinda a twist cause she’s the only one in the family that doesn’t act like a kiss ass. Just because some people saw it coming doesn’t mean it isn’t a twist.

If you listen closely to the main theme (You're Just What I've Been Looking For a.k.a. Angela's Theme), it subtly reveals that Angela is not who she seems. Listening to the song first time (not viewing the film) it seems like someone who is just hurt (ex-boyfriend etc.) Listening to it again, and the lines about "the pain you have to hide" take on a whole new meaning.

I remember before The Ring came out, some friends and I were at San Diego ComiCon. There was a large barrel filled with unlabeled VHS tapes and a sign that said, " Free! Take One! " I stuck one in my backpack and we didn't remember about it until a couple of weeks later. We popped it in and the most disturbing images began to play. We were horrified and shocked. One of my friends started to cry and kept saying, " Why would someone do this?! What does it mean?!" Months later, when the trailer came out, we then understood. It was a great marketing plan!

The plot twist in Invisible Man isn't just the fact that it was revealed to be Adrian's brother the night she overpowered the suit. It is just one of several smaller twists but it's definitely not the grand twist. It is heavily implied that it was still Adrian terrorizing her up until he set his brother up to be killed thus painting himself as a helpless victim being held captive in his brothers basement. But come on guys. He literally TALKED to her multiple times. Do you actually believe she wouldn't be able distinguish her abusers voice after living in fear of it for years? That shit was engraved in her mind. I believe the twist(s) are supposed to be that Adrian had succeeded (or so he thought) in the grandest gesture of gaslighting he'd ever subjected her to. But it didn't work, because she was all too familiar with the pattern. Oh and how she wasn't attempting to get his confession on tape when she came over for dinner, she just needed to get close enough to him to kill him herself while in his suit to end the cycle and making him ACTUALLY commit "suicide"

  • @derrickhaggard

That ending was probably the best part about the film mostly how she figured out Adrian being the cunning manipulative scumbag that he was even if arrested would along with a corrupt lawyer figure out a way to get off scot free and continue to make her life a living nightmare so she decided to use the third cloaking suit and assassinate him making it look like a suicide that way she would truly be free from his reign of terror.

Wow. Plus the fact that he wouldn't be able to react like a normal human to any screaming (i.e. flinching, being startled, etc.) dismemberment, or that if they moved to touch the "corpse" he'd have to really really play dead. God the Mist is still one of the most gut wrenching endings to me so far. The sheer pain of deciding to painlessly end your loved ones to prevent them from suffering a far worse, and painful fate, only for the military to show up seconds later would be devastating. Especially how young the kid, and the lady was, they still had so much time to live through. Honestly wouldn’t surprise me if he’d ended up taking his own life from the overwhelming grief. Sixth Sense ending was also kinda depressing, being took away from the love of your life would suck. Then seeing them walk around, but not being able to talk to them, or comfort them either. Honestly still think the name itself of The Cabin in the Woods is a ruse, plot twist in itself. You’d think it’d be a slasher with a title like that, not some chaotic, nightmare, horror fest lol. God I’m so glad Friday the 13th is on this list. Definitely wouldn’t expect on older lady going on a bloodlust rampage lol. Surprised Jason’s jump scare and him being (somewhat) still alive isn’t on it either. Plot armor/movie troupe of no one fighting back drives me nuts though. And the fact she knows how to use all these various equipment is weird too. Whole damn saw franchise is filled with plot twists if you ask me.😂 So much so it’s hard to keep up with at this point. Scream’s twist was definitely surprising to me. Kinda makes sense now that I think about it. The fact how one man was able to get around so damn quickly is weird.
