#11 Lens Distance adjustment : Where the headstrap connects to the HMD grab the grey rings and pull them out to the sides a bit. Then rotate them forward or back to move the display lenses further from or closer to your eyeballs & press back in to lock it when done. Can help reduce eye strain or improve FOV. Took me 2 years to realize this.

a new tip for everyone : replace the factory HDMI cable by a display port (DP-mini DP), picture sharpness is much better, I'm not sure supersampling (I use 2.5 for tests) works or is properly transmitted with the stock HDMI it was very blurry before i switched to DP fyi, a good way to test is to download the "london thames river" environement and check the red circle in the middle of the bridge with HDMI all I saw was red dot on a flat white circle now I can see details in the white

You should mention how useful it is to hook up a mic on your desktop, and set the "listen always" flag, and have it output to the vive's headset. Then you can "talk" to the person in VR without having to yell or have them turn down the volume. Very handy!

Right click on the speaker icon bottom right of your screen. Then click "recording devices", then double click the USB audio device in the list. A new window pops up. Click on the "Listen" tab. Then check "Listen to this device". The microphone now plays back over the speakers.

The standby function is not good for the Cosmos Elite. In my case when using standby for base stations it causes game breaking jittery display. If this happens to you buy a pair of RF remote outlets and a remote. Turn them on for VR time, turn them off when you're done. Htc Cosmos Elite Rx480 Ryzen 2600x

Another tip to remember (we found out at the meetup event you were talking about). Make sure to boot up your computer with the monitor only, then plug in the Vive after it's booted to Windows. If not, your Vive might become the primary monitor when the computer boots, which isn't going to work well.

I have an Index and am watching this video long after, but I think it's neat to see how SteamVR used to look and the things people didn't know back in the day. For instance, I didn't realize both Vive controllers looked the same. With Index Controllers, they're shaped to your hands and clearly have a right and left. The headset mirror mode has more options like showing an overlapping view of both eyes. There's a double-tap system button for camera room view now, and you can actually see the room instead of just the object outlines. The Index also has a Bluetooth controller in the headset so you don't have to manage that yourself. All of that stuff is completely gone from view. "There's another one coming out this week called BigScreen"

Can someone help?? Controller works fine, except when i start up VR. The controllers are not appearing. Even after i press the button under the round control pad. It lights up green but the VR control panel does not show active controller, I have to connect it through usb for 10 secs then unplug it for the light box to pick it up

For room setup, doesn't it make sense to actually follow the directions and point you controller at the monitor (as is instructed), since most of your viewers are probable not KZread content creators and thus would want to be facing away from their monitors? Other than that question, great video!

+MrBlahblhblah Yeah, I definitely prefer it that way.

+MrBlahblhblah Maybe instead it should just say: "Look and point at the direction you want the back of your head facing. It's recommended to look at point at your computer." (I realize they're trying to simplify it here.)

I just have one question. I had some problems with the compositor when I first started playing. So I found on the Internet that I should directly put the HDMI into the gpu. I was able to play some games. But, when I open up a game that can be seen on my computer monitor, but not in the HMD. In the settings there is still something wrong with the compositor. I have tried everything and I can't figure out a solution. Can you or anyone who sees this comment help me on this?

Do you know if your space needs to be perfectly square or rectangular? I have a couch with a chaise lounge that sticks out... just wondering if I could set up my space around that without having to move it.

Space can be any shape, for just standing/sitting the space needs to be just a very small box, for a play area there is a minimal requirement but its fairly small. When tracing the area you can make any shape you wish.

+Xaines thanks guys. Set my Vive up last week. Awesome stuff... tried to upgrade my gpu today... went out of stock too quick, though.

For those of you who commented that you felt this would be information anyone with half a brain would discover all by themselves in a day or two, you are certainly entitled to your opinion. You would be wrong, however, but still entitled to it. I very much wish I had been fortunate enough to notice and then watch this video before I even opened the box holding my Vive. If you are brand new to this level of technology, it can be incredibly intimidating. How do you know what you don't know? Don't criticize someone for being a newbie. I try to think of complexity as an illusion. It generally disappears with understanding. This video gave me understanding quickly. Yes, I could have and did spend a bunch of wasted time learning a few of these on my own. I would have preferred knowing the information in advance, and then just use the knowledge, and I thank the maker of this tutorial very much.

Is the Vive clearer than the rift? I purchased the rift, and it’s not really clear. It’s not unplayable, but I’m wondering if this is not an issue with the Vive. Thanks
