Don't leave you vive like you do at 2:03. The sunlight going through the lenses will burn up the screen inside.
He forgot to mention how you shouldnt place your vive facing the lens to the window as in 3:30 in the background . Direct sunlight will fry those screens

Ordered my Vive yesterday, can't wait for it to arrive! Just a quick question, did you order yours from the vive site and how long was shipping?

I actually ordered it from Currys/PC World here in the UK

waiting on the second generation. tested the HTC vive extensively and I'm a bit underwhelmed. it was really cool, yeah. but dioptrine adjustment is abyssmal and it feels quite pixelated. also you sweat like crazy under the htc vive. not worth 1.100€

Thanks for this great video, and to be honest, i'm waiting for VR/AR headsets to be wireless, all those cables scare me of.
I'm legally blind in one eye (massive screen door effect) and thought the Vive wouldn't work with me because I have zero depth perception due to my vision. Got my Vive two days ago. I've had no problems at all. So if you're on the fence because of an issue like that the only time I've gotten uncomfortable at all is when an NPC/character is right in my face. Edit: I had no idea the Vive had a mic, omg.

I need to wear glasses. And cant imagine being blind like that. I hope one day they will be able to fix this.
Had mine since day 1 best thing I ever bought for gaming. Truly jaw dropping.
Mine arrives tomorrow and I just can’t wait! Just need to find a good spot for the sensors, but it’ll work out.
great video, been looking into getting one of these didn't think about tripods good idea!
Great video. This will def be helping me when I finally purchase one!! Keep up the great work!

Thanks for this video. I'm looking forward to the review now. I'm really curious about the games for it. Can you talk in a little more detail about some of the vr games, and how you play them.

yeah i'll probably do a video dedicated to the games very soon - but essentially it's Wii/PS Move style games at the moment.
Thanks for this video, helped me a lot : )
got it as soon as I was able to when it first came out (vive). havnt had a bit of regret!
thank you it was realy helpful :D !
wow thats nice never try before but u seem to like it
Good presentation, you should be on the telly despite your parents curtains. I got my Vive yesterday but the steam store seems to have crashed.
Quality video, thumbs up! Just got my Vive at the weekend and in awe how amazing it is. Just hope they get around the 'blink' movement from many games. Kind of kills some of the immersion.
@IceGeck0

how else are you going to do it? locomotion is more immersion breaking, as is freeze and turn...
I got a htc vive. Had a day off work, set it up and played it 10 hours.
The multiplayer aspect of this seems like its going to be amazing when it really takes off. Can't wait

Onward is doing great on that!
from what i understand high refresh rate and really really good tracking (6dof at least) are the key to not feeling sick. and a good comfortable headband taht the vive sadly lacks. i foudn out that if i put the main part of the support on my head rather than cheekbones i get far less nausea
I love my Vive. Can't wait for a Vive 2 with new controllers.
Also since this video is a few months, I HIGHLY recommend using the Steam VR beta. It has support for Asynchronous Reprojection which allows the headset to update frames completely in-sync with your GPU which decreases judder significantly. To opt in-to the Steam VR beta Right Click Properties>Betas>Drop down box opt-in.

The game is called Rec Room. For me it's fun.
Thanks to this video, i ordered myself one :3 My room is about 2m by 2m so i might be fine.
Btw guys the base stations don't need to be above head height, they can even be on the floor, I haven't personally done this but multiple HAVE have confirmed this.
Nice vid
Was that Sports Bar VR footage from Nerdcubed?
One note for setting area. If you have ceiling lamps that have metal then there can be reflections. I had one area where tracking was going mad. Rootcause was metal in ceiling lamp.

Oh man i had a little mirror in my room , damn thing kept playing with my controllers! I had a lamp , Sadly i won't be playing Soccer anymore on the vive as i punched the lamp off the ceiling...... As a note i am 2.01 Meters tall
Hi...Do the base cameras have to be placed diagonally apart or can they be put anywhere as long as they face each other? Thanks
unfortunately I don't have an exact time when i will be able to get a vive so i have to plan waaaaaay in advance, when I do get it should I wash the face mask thing once a week?
omw to pick one up in a couple of hours :)
When I first played arisona sunshine vr, I almost threw up from motion sickeness. This was because of the way movement in the game was set up. After I changed the way I moved around, I never got motionsickness again.
I have set up my vive today. It is fantastic, however, on a rollercoaster simulation, I did chuck up my lunch ... very realistic indeed lol
very new vive user (7hours) here is my beginner feedback 1- space, I had 1.8x2.6 meters, 2.6 worked well but 1.8 is not enough, don't think "it'll do" it won't and will seriously downgrade your experience, I decided to clear the room to have a 2.6+ square area because I quickly found games where I had to pickup items outside of the boundaries :/ 2 - don't try super cool games some are complex to understand, do this steam vr tutorial->download environments and explore them a little->nvidia funhouse->the lab 3 - check this video kzread.info/dash/bejne/eHaG2bWxYZWbips.html and do like he says asap especially the bluetooth (easier firmware updates and the base will shut down, if you don't enable it you'll have to manually unplug them all the time) 4 - components that need an update have a small i on the icon btw thx for the micro tip I didn't know there was one !
The vibration of the sensors isn't a problem on this tripods? I have my on tripods, I feel like it is shaking too much, not sure if it is affecting my experience
I have a regular Vive (not Vive Pro). I bought a third lighthouse sensor but it wont connect. Any feedback would be most helpful and thank you for your time.
@Timby
4 жыл бұрын
This is really late, but the original lighthouse sensors only support TWO sensors hooked up together. If you want more sensors, you need to upgrade to the new 2.0 lighthouse sensors that came with the Valve Index. Those support up to 4 sensors

@@Timby cool, thank you :)
Waiting for mine to come in
but what should i do when i have a slanting roof, how should i setup my sensors??
is vr gonna come down in price? you gotta invest close to $2k for a pc and vive. also there doesnt seem to be any compelling games either. cant wait for the review!!
@Thetechchap
8 жыл бұрын
It's a huge investment, you're right. It only really makes sense if you already have a decent PC. I don't foresee it coming down in price any time soon however - there still isn't a great deal of stock for them.

jti107 my pc was $800 and it runs every game and VR at a good FPS
For those new to the Vive, if you have all sort of troubles getting it to recognize all controllers and you're running Windows 7 -> switch to Windows 10! I had tried ever-y-thing, spent countless hours on reddit reading and asking questions, tinkered with every possible BIOS and Windows 7 setting, even installed a secondary USB card... nothing worked. After installing Windows 10 everything worked on the first try.
SHIT I never thought to download my games prior to getting the Vive. I mean I've been playing ED for some time now but I'm certain I want to play Onward too... Better get on that lol
Hi, I am trying to install 4 base stations its just showing 2 only in steam vr
Tension rods for me with lighthouses clamped to them. Alot more secure than Tripods imho.
@Killswitch1411
6 жыл бұрын
Tension rods are far more secure.. you can set them up closer to the corner of the wall and they wont become a tripping hazard. Paint them black and look far more appealing as well.
hi Tom, do you think it is safe for our eyes in long term of usage? thanks.
@Thetechchap
8 жыл бұрын
that's a great question - thingd like eye strain aren't really considered - I'll look into it!
I'm worried about my graphics card. I've been meaning to upgrade, but with prices being the way they are now...I have a GTX970 and an I7-6700. Would that be good enough? They say the 970 is minimum...but I never go with just minimum specs because it always ends in disappointment.
@Haddiseus
6 жыл бұрын
I have the 970 and i5 4690k, there is a little bit of lag on highly intensive games and graphics, but its perfectly smooth in 95% of the games, with your i7, it might give it the edge it needs to be really smooth, however, I do recommend eventually upgrading to a 1070 paired with your CPU.
can it.work with a laptop
i own the vive and 40 games or experiences, the only motion sickens iv ever got was in my racing sim, i have been on a real track in a real race car. so it took my brain a few tries to except the lack of g force it expected lol. now i drift entire mountain roads at over 100 mph with nothing but sweat from slamming gears and wheel work. but elite dangerous is in space so it seemed to my mind it was normal not to fell anything and the view out my pit was truly cosmic . especially the encounters with neutron stars and landing on moons. the warp jumps are cool too. onward has an amazing method of movement that your mind understands. you really feel like your doing it. some not so much moving at quake speeds takes loads of practice lol i still stumble when i stop in serious sam , it moves hella fast. but if your susceptible to motion sickness just play til you sweat and take a break , keep at it and in a few tries you'll be a veteran. its worth the effort.
does this work with index?
Do you still need the light house sensors if your doing sitting down sims?
@Thetechchap
8 жыл бұрын
you only need 1 then - like the oculus rift - usually placed infront of your monitor.
Do you think it's worth buying? And how well would it handle with a gtx 970 and a fx 8350
@Thetechchap
8 жыл бұрын
970 is absolutely fine - the fx 8350 may be a bit of an issue. As for whether it's worth it - that's a big question and one i will address in another video coming soon. Short answer - no, long answer yes :P

Simple games (like The Lab) were running fine even on my GTX 660 :D
I think one of the major reasons for motion sickness in mobile vr compared to the vive is a mobile phone more than likely has a 60hz screen(the razer phone has 120hz) while the vive is 90hz so it makes it so much smoother. Also the sensor tracking means you don't get disorientated while a single gyroscope gets easily disorientated.
I want pool nation now. How does it feel compared to real pool?
@IceGeck0
5 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't get my hopes up for these kinds of simulations, the fine movement just doesn't seem to translate, get a cheap title like ping pong or something to see what i mean, jsut feels wonky donky. Why simulate things you can easily do in real life?
I need lap top and tv screen?
i would buy one, but i dont have a gaming setup
The worst problem I had was getting it to see my controllers and it was finicky as hell. Use a 2.0 USB and steamvr beta
What happens if you move? Do you just run the room setup again?

Why do people keep saying it's a pain in the ass to setup? I watched a video before buying mine and didn't see the problem... However when I got mine I was expecting it to well really be a pain in the ass... with a drill/drill bit and a screw driver it was setup installed and good to go in about 15 minutes... What makes it hard to setup? I just don't get it.

Who really cares? That gameplay isn't his, the commentary is.
This technology will fail the same as 3d glasses failed in living rooms . 3d glasses still used in cinema but vr has no such scope in cinemas .so it will disappear quickly
@IceGeck0
5 жыл бұрын
you know it was released 2 and a half years ago right ?
Hard to setup? Not at all.
I've tried out my friends Vive and I will never buy one, I loved playing Gorn but I kept hitting the walls (which made me feel really guilty and kind of ruined VR for me), I feel like for a game like that "Room Mode" or whatever it is, is a bad idea. But as far as we could tell you cannot set specific games in "Stationary Mode" while every other game is "Room Mode" which really sucks. That is the only reason I dislike the Vive, everything else was great.
My top tip is to not buy one.
mine was a proper fucking bitch to setup wow. only hdmi from vive into gpu card, dvi from motherboard to a monitor. literally no other setup worked...... besides that, cable is a piece of shit, resolution is bad, viewing things at a distance is bad and general software is bad. wait until vive 2
