I thought Ann Hathaway's performance in Les Miserable was incredible, the acting, the singing and the physical stress she went through to lose weight. I saw Les Miserable on stage and loved it, I thought this movie version was incredible, Hugh Jackman also deserves recognition for his performance and the lengths he went to transform himself, extreme dieting and work outs, and to ready himself for the singing performed on Broadway. One of my favorite movies, Hathaway definitely earned her Oscar.

How about Harou Nakajima & Kenpachiro Satsuma: the suit actors who brought Godzilla to life during the first and second eras. Nakajima not only lost an excess of 30lbs playing the first Godzilla due to the suit being over 200lbs but passed out a dozen times in the suit and suffered multiple injuries during his performances. One noteworthy one involved him getting knocked unconscious during King Kong vs Godzilla and nearly drowned when the pair fell into the water at the end of the film. Satsuma went through similar, losing 10lbs playing Godzilla in the 1984, getting shocked from the lights used to light up Godzilla's dorsal plates in Godzilla vs Biollante, and nearly suffocated from the smoke emanating from the suit in Godzilla vs Destoroyah.

One of the most demanding roles must surely be that of J.W. Turner as played by Timothy Spall. The film was created by Mike Leigh who takes his actors through an intense period of improvisation before he begins to write the screenplay. Because of this, Spall had to do an INSANE amount of research so he could convincingly improvise in-character. He didn’t just require to have in-depth knowledge of Turner’s life and the times that he lived in. He had to know about art history, architecture, Greek mythology and the scientific principles of light as was understood at the time. He also studied painting for two years in preparation for the role prior to the start of production.

Its astonishing that Christian went from The Machinist to Batman Begins. If you had not known this, you would think what a badass anyway as he looked epic as The Caped Crusader(my all time favorite version of Batman by a mile)but after the role before(how on Earth was no Oscar nomination btw)he was even more a badass.

They didn't have to do any of the method acting, they chose to. They didn't have to put themselves through certain things, they chose to.. I guess that's why Heath Ledgers story will break my heart everytime I hear it. It broke him & he didn't even get to see the fruits of his labour. Great list. I truly appreciate & respect those who do everything possible to know their character in & out, as this list has shown. Happy to see Christian Bale at number 1. I was really affected by the Machinist. Absolutely wowed, it's amazing. I feel like this film isn't appreciated as much as it should be.. but it's not to everyone's taste which I totally get.

Its not only about the dancing bruh, Natalie's facial expressions and body languages throughout the film look so natural that it was gut wrenching to watch. Ofcourse she isn't a professional ballerina, she would have a double but the emotions she expressed and actings througout the dance sequences wasnt done by the double. She rightfully deserved all the credits and awards won for the role.
