Arnold S in "Jingle All The Way" was very funny. Maybe you can have him on a part 2 of this list. Also Harry Morgan from the "MASH" series was also pretty funny and before that he'd been only in serious roles.

@@mattdouglas1050---I know only one serious role Jeff Daniels ever had. And that was him playing General Washington when he was master minding his crossing of the Delaware. Does he have any other serious role?
I know the emphasis in this list is on film rather than television, but Andre Braugher deserves our attention for his unexpected brilliant comic turn in "Brooklyn Nine-Nine."
It's hard to believe that Leslie Nielsen was ever a dramatic actor, since he's known more for his comedies these days. I love how much of the humour of Airplane is playing his doctor character as straight as possible, which ties in with the chaotic comedy.

Not his first comedic role, though. He was in both The Fabulous Baker Boys and Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, which are often underrated comedies but showed Bridges could be funny given the right material. I'd have had him down as comedy/serious actor even before The Big Lebowski.
George Clooney in O Brother Where Art Thou.
I love Joe Pesci’s comedic side. Him in My Cousin Vinny had me in stitches. And this was right after watching Casino.

Yes, he was hilarious in Logan Lucky! Knives Out I love even more though because you can just see how much absolute fun he was having playing this role and that makes it even more engaging :D
I knew Leslie Nielsen was going to be number one, and top honor he deserves very few dramatic actors could successfully pull off some of the funniest moments in comedy movie history. Plus 1980s Airplane!, which is one the greatest comedies ever made, gave other great serious actors the ability to show their funny side such as Peter Graves, Robert Stack, and of course Lloyd Bridges. All were fantastic and what made Airplane! the success it is.
So, I guess no one at Watch Mojo ever saw Growing Pains. If they did, they would know that Leonardo DiCaprio got his start as a comedic actor.
Daniel Craig in Lucky Logan was hilarious.
Leslie Neilson and Peter Graves exchange about when can we land is a classic.
Bro Jason Statham in Spy was hilarious 😂😂😂 " I once eat a bunch of microchips and shit a computer" 😂😂😂😂

Don't forget Gun Shy (2000) and Cold Pursuit (2019).
Peter Lorre was best known for serious roles in films like 'Casablanca' and 'The Maltese Falcon', but his comic timing shines through in 'Arsenic and Old Lace' (1944) and 'The Raven' (1963). The latter film also stars Boris Karloff and Vincent Price, and features Jack Nicholson as Lorre's schleppy son Rexford.

I absolutely loved this list! I don't know why though, I laughed way too hard at that honorable mention clip of Chris Hemsworth in Thor Ragnarok 🤣 It must have caught me off guard or something
This channel will always be the best. We wish them well.
Fun fact, in 1991, Meryl Streep was in fantasy comedy movie, Defending Your Life with Albert Brooks, Rip Torn, and Lee Grant. Streep plays as Julia, a woman who had passed away and she's in Judgement City where she meets Brooks' character Daniel Miller and later falls in love with him and finding out that Julia had a brave life and hardly had any fears when she was alive. Her performance as Julia was heartfelt and she did put in humor whenever Brooks' character was with him
Another famous actor that people didn’t know had comedic chops: Christopher Reeve. If you watch him in the Sleeping Beauty episode of Shelley Duvall’s Fearie Tale Theatre, he plays both the lead prince and-for one scene-a foppish suitor. Both roles for that episode show off the hidden character actor underneath that heroic, romantic leading man exterior. When Reeve was at Juliard, his roommate was Robin Williams, so it’s not surprising that he has little-known but well-refined comedy skills. Too bad there is no major comedic film attributed to his name.
You forgot #1. Robert Deniro. “I have nipples, Greg. Could you milk me?” from Meet the Parents. Either the mob boss crying to his psychiatrist in Analyze This, or singing “I feel pretty, oh so pretty,” in Analyze That.

Harry Morgan from decades past was in a lot of serious roles in TV. But when he got cast as Colonel Potter on the MASH series he proved very quickly that he was hilarious. I hope he's including on a part 2 of this list.

@@andywellsglobaldomination---Really. All I heard was that Morgan had been in serious roles only till coming to MASH.
Bob Hoskins in Who Framed Roger Rabbit and in the dark comedy Passed Away.
When I started this list I was thinking "Leslie Nielsen better be in there!" XD
I first saw Ralph Fiennes onstage in 1991 in "Troilus and Cressida". Not exactly a laugh-a-minute show, but he had a great moment of physical comedy with a very serious face and a couple of swords. 😊
Statham only being on Honorable Mention for Spy is a real shame. He stole every scene he was in in that movie. The Face/Off machine moment in the board meeting and the monologue in the hotel room about all of the crazy things he did were some of the most hilarious things I’ve ever seen on film.
Chris Hemsworth was pretty funny in Ghostbusters as well. But my first thought for this video besides Daniel Craig was for sure Brad Pitt in Burn After Reading, I remember almost falling out of my chair laughing when I saw that XD
Leslie Nielsen was a cinematic inspiration long before his transition to comedy. One of his early films, Forbidden Planet, has been credited as one of the inspirations for the series Star Trek. Also, if I recall correctly, Colin Farrell made one (maybe two) appearances on the comedy Scrubs at least a few years before appearing in In Bruges. Lastly, as we've seen over the years, Nicolas Cage *is* a comic character in real life. There's no way you could do a biographical movie about him, because in truth he would be so hard to replicate believably.
You're missing a couple of giants, among them Lloyd Bridges (Jeff Bridges' father); Robert Stack (who also starred in Airplane) or Charlie Sheen (he was a dramatic actor before moving into comedy). And Brad Pitt's comedic chops have been shown much earlier, in Snatch.
I think some of my favorites are when action actors cross the boundaries and they go into like romantic movies or communique movies or even family movies it shows. A lot of versatility
Good video, you should do another one that switches these two genres...Comedic actors who give incredible dramatic performances...

Jeff Bridges' dad Lloyd was also funny in "Airplane".
Robert Downey Jr. in Iron Man. He adlibbed a lot of his dialogue and it was comedy gold. Especially considering that he didn't last long in "Saturday Night Live". "Let's face it, this isn't the worst thing you've caught me doing."
Along this topic there is a movie from the 50's called "We're no Angels". It stars Humphrey Bogart, Aldo Ray and Peter Ustinov. All three are great dramatic actors along with many others in the cast. Most all of the humor is very dry but it's delivery is expert. Probably the funniest scene is the 3 arguing over who is to tell Basil Rathbone (the movie's antagonist) of an impending danger. Also it may be the best Christmas movie ever made.
I know it wasn't the first comedy, and he has a smaller role, but Colin Farrell is *hilarious* in "The Gentlemen."
Of course, Wallace & Gromit fans would have already heard Ralph Fiennes be brilliantly funny as Lord Victor Quartermaine in Curse of the Were-Rabbit, nearly a decade before Grand Budapest Hotel.
RALPH FIENNES WAS FUNNY IN "IN BRUGES" TOO!!
Denzel Washington in "The Preacher's Wife". Queen Latifah in "Girl's Trip".
How is Robert DeNiro not on this list? Midnight Run, Analyze That and Meet the Parents
Arnold Swarzneiger was very funny in the movie "Jingle All The Way" he should've been somewhere on this list. he had better be on a part 2 of this list.

Joe Pesci was in comedy before he got into films. He was part of a duo act with Frank Vincent as his partner.
Got this one wrong. Daniel Craig was hilarious back before Knives Out in Logan Lucky.
Mads Mikkelsen is mostly known for his comedy roles here in Denmark - and to the rest of the world he’s known for playing serious roles and villains.
Joe Pesci had me hooked when I saw him in "The Super" he's naturally talented in any genre. You should have given John Lithgow an honorable mention
How could they not mention Jeff Daniels in Dumb and Dumber?

A little curious why Daniel Craig's role in Logan Lucky wasn't used instead of his Knives Out one. Same goes for Chris Hemsworth's performance in 2016 Ghostbusters. Do these not count since they're more supportive roles? Cuz they still show off two guys who are really funny, and preceded the roles named here.
Christopher Walken - Pulp Fiction, Mouse Hunt.
Joe Pesci absolutely rocked that cop uniform, and I'd love to see him play an actual policeman.
Not having Jeff Daniels on this list of criminal
Robert De Niro definitely should be #1. For someone who played acted in movies such as Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, Godfather etc. He was extremely funny in movies such as Midnight Run, Analyze This, Meet the Parents etc.
Gene Hackman and Ned Beatty in Superman:1978. I think comedic actors with great dramatic roles would be a great idea.

Joaquin Phoenix he does not do a lot of broad comedy but I'm Still Here is a work of satrical and comedic genius which is what made me think he is probably one of the greatest actors of all time.
Surely Tom Cruise deserved to be more than just honorable mention, sorry for calling you Shirley... And while not a dramatic actor, what about Arnold Schwarzenegger? He was mainly an action star but he's great in comedies. Sure his action movies had some comedy in them, but it wasn't until Twins and Kindergarten Cop that I think people realized that he's really good in comedic roles.

As a professional actor I always find it a little strange that people are surprised that actors who make their name in drama, are good in comedy. As an actor it’s the casting that puts you in one or other, directors or casting agents who are stuck in one look or type or go on actors history. Good actors are good actors. Full stop.
