Currrently playing TR1, I'd have listed last secret in St Francis' Folly on honorable mentions. You have to be very coordinated to perform the famous roll/run/grab/jump considering the limited time to grab the secret. It's very easy to fall and die as well 😅 I have a video suggestion: how about your favorite soundtracks of TR classic games ? 😉 Nathan McCree OST are definitely masterpieces, I often listen to them.

For sure! That secret is tough, so I made sure to at least show it briefly in this video. Thank you for your suggestion, I actually thought about doing a video like that. It would be very tough to do however, as I love so many tracks in the series.
I love the music that’s used right at the very beginning of where you’ve ranked secret number 6 in St. Francis Folly. It’s the music you’ll hear when you enter the grand pyramid before Natla appears, and the ultimate final battle of the game begins (the Original Tomb Raider, not Anniversary edition to save any confusion

The last secret in Lud's Gate which due to a bug caused by saving your game at a certain point causes that secret to become inaccessible. Ironically I played enough TRLE levels that I've sort of mastered TR4 rope swinging. The key is to jump before the peak of the swing. For whatever reason the engine makes her go crooked at the last second. Jump sooner and she will go straight. IDK why that "bug" exists but I've navigated around it.

Your video was interesting. I was born in 2002, so the only TR games I could play in my childhood were Legend, Anniversary and a little of 2nd game from 2nd reboot, so I could play first TR games only when I became adult. One of hardest secrets in Classic TR, in my opinion, is in Great Pyramid level in the 1st game. There is a long room in which it is limited on both sides, but in the center it's free. At the very end, next to the exit from the room, on the right there is an entrance to a room with a secret, where there is extra loot. But the joke is that there are 3 Atlanteans in the room, and when you just enter the room, the trigger goes off, and you must have time to kill all the monsters and run to the secret in LESS than a minute, otherwise the door will close and it will NEVER open again. And considering how difficult the Atlanteans are in combat, who constantly jump back and forth like macaques, and considering that the combat system in TR isn't its strong side, it's nearly impossible to get in time, unless you 100% mastered the controls. I even tried to avoid the fight and run to the secret as quick as possible before shooting, but Atlanteans immediately attack you if you turn your back to them, which is a constant death. I died multiple times and if even I succeeded, I was always too late and the door closed before my nose. So I decided to do some trick: I avoided some bombings, shooted a bit and then got to the room, healed myself and killed every monster, while inside the room (the door won't close if you're inside). Atlanteans were too buggy to go fully into the room so I easily killed them all and took secret loot. But it was such pain in the ass😅

Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! Oh, it's so cool you went back and played classic Tomb Raider, in spite of being born years after they came out. I know EXACTLY the secret you describe here, and I agree completely! It's brutal. In general, those Atlanteans are just such a pain in the ass, because of how frantic and aggressive those encounters are. I'm sorry about the late reply, but sometimes comments don't show up to me until weeks later, for some reason.
Honestly, even though you didn't talk about it, you actually showed one of the ones that trips me up a lot. It's the very last secret of TR1 with the pendulum and crumbling floor that you have to do a run and jump across in order to get the secret. For some reason, it ALWAYS trips me up and I never know how to do it properly. I either get sliced up by the pendulum or run out of room for running and drop off the edge of the crumbling floor and die. Takes me a lot of tries to actually make it across and get the secret.
@AxMania
Жыл бұрын
Yeah, that one is tough as well, and it also has a bug where the game won't register the secret. I find that the easiest method is to jump and grab so you hang off the floor tile (it won't break as long as you just hang from it). Then time your pull up with the swinging axe, and do a running jump to safety. It's definitely one of the harder secrets.
These were definitely the best secrets video

I really enjoyed this. I remember playing 2 and finding all the secrets. Seems easy I guess and perhaps it is, but some of those were a bastard to get hold of. It motivated me to do 3 and get all those secrets and get to that Hallows level. And yes, I used a walkthrough, but, God help me, I did it. Apart from Tinnos. And after trying for a zillion times, I relented and put in the all secrets cheat code and finished the game. In the end, I didn't play the Hallow's level because I felt a fraud. What did I learn? Try harder. Great vid, great commentary, great gameplay, great channel, great job. Thank you.

One more honorable mention I just remembered - in Temple of the Cat there's a really obnoxious secret in a small room with a very low ceiling, containing numerous pushable blocks. St. Francis Folly secrets are tough but one that really irks me is the timed secret. Call me insane, but I always dug Aldwych and the atmosphere it evokes. There’s something special about wandering around in a very urban area at night time while at the same time feeling very lonely.
For the St. Francis folly jump all you have to do is hang off the edge of the second slope, pull yourself up, and immediately jump backwards. The kicker is you have to let go of every button on your controller as soon as she starts her jumping animation to make it. For some reason if you have any button or direction held for too long you won't make it.
@AxMania
4 ай бұрын
Yeah, that's true, there are a couple of ways this jump can be done, and it's even easier now with Lara being able to do her mid-air flip jump in the first game.
I think St. Francis Folly‘s hardest secret is definitely the timed switch in the deity shaft. First of all the switch is just a floor tile on top of the shaft and you get no sound cue or anything to indicate that it’s even a switch. I knew there was a door on the bottom of the shaft and i needed to check out if the tile did anything by jumping to my death. If you make your way down casually the door will long be closed and you might even think the tile did nothing since you don‘t know that it’s timed. Not to mention that even after you figured it out, the race to the secret is extremely tight.
@AxMania
4 ай бұрын
Yeah, it's definitely up there, and having recently done a no medipacks playthrough, it made it a lot harder because you suffer some fall damage from obtaining this secret.

@@AxMania Wow congrats, did you do it with save crystals? I tried one with no save crystals (manual saves possible), only pistols, no med packs, all pickups. It wasn‘t really intentional, but at some point i commited to it. After taking too much forced damage in the Great pyramid though, i had to give up before the doppelganger room. The three atlantean before sliding down to her are a nightmare 😂
Secret #7 (slope in Tomb of Tihocan) is much more forgiving in the Remastered because the platform is simply reachable from the ground of the room and the crumbling platforms aren't even necessary ✨

@@AxMania Well played!
I remember when playing as a child to find that secret in tomb of Tihocan at the first time. It's just my intuition back then to say "Wait what is there maybe left and right?". The secret before in the same level though was harder for me to find out. I had no clue where that other secret was until I stumbled upon the closed door. And at some point I got it open by randomly going to a corner. The problem ist I couldnt reproduce it on a second run. The door would just open after I walked around the room and I still can't say what rules apply to it. So I find that secret actually harder than the one at the slope. Also because its not too difficult to reach it since you can also jump earlier to the left and still reach the secret by sloping down to the platform on the left... The secret in St. Francis Folly was perhaps a bit difficult to reach, but unlike other secrets it was not difficult to see. Here I also found the next secret ( the door down in the big room) way way more difficult because I had to spent hours and days to find out that I had to jump on this random tile to open it and that it was a timed door for which you didn't have much time. The secret that you mentioned just takes a few tries to figure out but the other one should be actually in this list since I found it one of the most difficult secrets in TR1.

Yeah, I see your point, but this list was more about secrets that are hard to obtain, than secrets that are hard to find, because there definitely are secrets in the latter category that are worse than those on this list. I personally don't think the timed run secret in St. Francis' Folly is THAT bad (again, when you know it's there), but it's definitely up there.
the tihocan slope secret is only hard because you made it hard on yourself: don't get on the central slope, instead do a running jump to the rocks on the right then just keep the jump key pressed until you end at the opening

@@AxMania I remember one player explaining how an incredible bit of luck enabled them to find the Ice Palace gold secret. They lit a flare, which made the movable block stand out, and after opening the way, used another flare to check for any more movable blocks. There weren't any, but when the flare ran out and Lara discarded it, the spent flare hit the invisible bridge and bounced. The player noticed and investigated, and found the way to get to the secret. BTW, how about a top 10 of TR moments that make you go 'Wow!'? Things like the very first time Lara encounters a T-Rex in Lost Valley, the discovery of Randy and Rory's corpses in Temple Ruins...
Funny thing about #1, its a lot easier to aquire if you play on the remastered version using modern controls, mainly because its difficulty always came from how stiff lara was whenever she sprinted which is somthing the modern controls fixed. I know, but that wasn't a very good ranking though. The ranking of bat 267 was highly unfair and not very reasonable.
I'm wondering if it will even be worth it to go for the all secrets trophy in TR3R. I'm already half way through TR1R, and have picked up 100% of the secrets.

I actually think that the last secret of St. Francis is way harder: that one which is at the bottom of that huge pit with the four chalenges. you have to step int a gray floor and need to run for your life to grab it without dying because of the falls.

Oh yes, the one in Sanctuary of the Scion? That's difficult as well, because it's the first time the player encounters an invisible platform.
Secrets that open up only when you LOSE a challenge, make negative sense! Its also hard af to lose the senate game. The 13th Floor "murder the scientist" secret when Zip tells you not to is so scummy.

@@AxMania Lara is unhinged in Chronicles. So mean spirited for no reason. "Boo!"😑
11:34 Lemme tell you, you could easily have about 4 seconds more time if you immediately toggle your weapons after pulling the switch. There's no need to watch for the door opening animation, as you can move during it, and toggling weapons quits the cinematic view after you pull/press levers/switches in all of these games.

Yeah, that's a very good point. Could've spared me some stress! 😅
For the last secret I just use the lever then roll and let her fall into the water at the left end of the platform. It's quicker and you don't loose any health.

Hmm. There's one in Coastal Village, in Tomb Raider III, that's literally out in the open. It's literally just in a corner of the village. It always feels so random when the chime sounds, because it just feels like a normal area of the level.

Agreed! All that hard work, and then just for same random (often shotgun shells) pickup. I love how Tomb Raider II did it, with the little dragon figurines, as those were just fun to search for. Secret pickups aren't different from regular pickups, when they are just medipacks or ammo 😛
The only one I never could get across all the games is the shooting range in Red Alert. I simply can’t aim that fast, it’s as simple as that. No walkthrough is going to help if you simply don’t have the reflexes, sadly.

Yeah, there are a couple of those. Also, the secrets can feel a little random sometimes. Some are super well-hidden, while others are in plain sight.
Самые сложные секреты, это конечно Tomb Raider 3(1999 год), все из-за того, чтобы взять секрет, надо по любому тратить кристал сохранения, а это чревато последствиями The most difficult secrets are, of course, Tomb Raider 3 (1999), all because in order to take the secret, you have to spend a save crystal anyway, and this is fraught with consequences
