I've had a homebrew pair of swords on my bard that does what the bracers do for a long time, doubling up on cantrips is *really* good.

It’s a lot easier to watch these when they come out since I joined the discord.

The animated shield has the same rarity as a +2 armor, and both increase the AC by 2 compared to using the same armor type as non magical. I have a rapier+shield ranger that uses throwing knives for ranged attacks. I wanted an animated shield so I could throw with the offhand (as part of the attack action), until I noticed it would be better to just have a +2 studded leather armor.

A light whip is definitely something I would love to have with multiple characters, something that would be awesome for a Rogue/Paladin or a Blood Hunter to have.

The session before the last session I ran, the enemy NPC had a light whip using modified stats of a sun blade. Was funny to hear him suggest it.

Illusionist bracers would work great for Eldritch Knight's Eldritch Strike. Grant disadvantage on saves, then hit them with a cantrip that forces a save. And there is less of a penalty for wanting to cast a cantrip on their turn.

Just downloaded the sampler,looks interesting given me some ideas for my campaign already as i have a staffs,spells and scrolls merchant in a small town.Now i can add some small but interesting wands as well.

I had a lot of fun with a Mace of Disruption that was a whip. Like the whip from Castlvania

Does have the drawback of disappearing if more than 5 feet from you for a minute in fairness. Would probably be ignored in a lot of campaigns though

I've thought the Illusionist Bracers are just way too powerful. Does my Warlock still want them? Oh, yes! She's a Celestial Tome Pact so she knows cantrips up the wazoo! But yes for those Blasterlocks that take the agonizing blast invocation and you're a high-level Warlock, 11th or 17th level that's 6-8 beams of EB plus your charisma modifier for each blast. Too much!

I'd rank the tomes/manuals that grant ASI boosts at the top here personally. Belt of Fire Giant Strength is also a strong contender for a top 10 item for your typical martial character.

The arcane propulsion arm sounds perfect for recreating Nero from DMC5 especially the one arm that I can't remember the name of that flies off and hits an enemy over and over that's what it reminds me of, also makes me wander if attacks with the arcane propulsion arm count as unarmed strikes for the purpose of certain monk abilities.

ingot of the skold rune may have been on this list as well. It also give some cool homebrew ideas. like weapons with a +1 bonus to AC.

Why prefice dungeon of the mad mage with that the dungeon master might not have/allow it but not for critical role setting specific homebrew content?

I would think that the Shield of the Uven Ruin might need some clarification on the gift feature... the way I read it was that ater performing the ritual to transfer the ruin to the weapon it has all three of the cool powers but instead of being a shield (and thus granting a +2 to AC) now it is a magical weapon... so +1 normally and +3 vs. the named creature type. Am I miss reading something?

I think when you transfer the rune, the weapon only gets the +1 enhancement and the benefit against the chosen enemy, and nothing else. At least that is how I interpret that property.

A metal animated shield would help a moon druid barbarian.

My houserule for magical weapons is that they provide 1/2 (round down) your proficiency bonus instead of the flat bonus. That way there is no discarding items as you level up.

Still waiting on top ten 3.5 books :)

Considering that the animated shield is functionally just a +2 ac to someone who isn’t holding a shield in one hand, but has proficiency in shield anyway, but it takes a bonus action to turn on and turns off if incapacitated and requires attunement. I think it could easily be rare, and not very rare Sure you can use it with a two handed weapon but you can do that with plus 2 armor too and it won’t require attunement it’s more comparable to gauntlets of unarmored defense or a plus 2 shield in that it takes attunement and a few minor requirements to get the benefits so it’s over priced.

An overlooked aspect of the shield: while wielding it normally you must have proficiency to get the AC benefit; it says no such thing when using its special property. For instance, this allows a wizard to use a bonus action to get +2 AC for 10 rounds, and because it is additive, it can stack with the shield spell if needed. The shield is more useful than one might believe at first blush.

Does the illusionist’s braces let someone like a cleric with access to green flame blade or booming blade attack twice with those cantrips?

Lol I'm also playing a cleric with those cantrips. My character has the illusionist's bracers (lvl 16 Arcana Cleric) and my god it is so much fun. Never have I seen a cleric be on par with a martial class in terms of damage.

I gave my group the Blast Scepter, and no one wanted it, they wound up just selling it to a vendor.

WTH I think its great for anybody Melee or ranged. Especially great for martial classes You gotta send hoards of mobs at em now so they say "I wish we still had the blast scepter" Who passes up 2 resistances and 5d8 AOE damage?

Animated shield only replicates having magical +2 armour. Sure, it stacks, but that's TWO "very-rare" items and Animated Shield requires attunement while magical armour does not. And if they can't wear any armour then the Rare "Bracers of Defense" give the same bonus and are only Rare and like Animated Shield is incompatible with any other shield. Animated shield is a cool idea but for it's rarity it's a rather boring stat bonus.

You don't lose the cold immunity. just reading it as is...you could transfer this rune to a weapon and still have everything...and also a +1 weapon. Useful if you already have a shield (in animated shield)

That's not how the "gift" features of the runic items works. When you transfert the magic of the rune to something else, the item (or area) created this way only gets the properties listed in the gift part.

interesting sidebar: If you had 2 of these, you could train a new skill or feat once a week (recharge on the rod). If you had enough of these rods, and the necessary gold, you could learn all the skills and all the feats... but you'd instantly age several years once you were done in the rods (DM's descretion: The rod specifies you don't age within the secure space, but doesn't say anything about aging instantly upon leaving the safe space. Astral Plane works similarly) Edit: I'm wrong about the time thing. The item says time passes normally, so you're just safe.

I never understand why everyone focuses on magic weapons being shown as mostly swords. There are very few examples of very specific weapon types linked but even so, they can be any weapon you want to reward the party. Swords are mostly a go to and back in the day not everyone would know what a glaive or halberd was. I find looking at them as magic +x *weapon* of yadda yadda. Otherwise it really restrictive and no one would specialize in other weapons or else it would be a wasted feature. "Cookie cutter" characters are boring.

The salt is cheaper than most... tell your friends to chill out about making one of them wait a week if the boss fight is already over I guess.
