Spooky Space Kook is one of my favourites. The episode being set in an abandoned air field just adds to the creepiness of the episode (IMO, it's probably the spookiest episode of the show) The unnerving nature of the Kook is offset by the humour in the episode (Shaggy and Scooby being trapped in the building with him is one of the funniest things I've ever seen in a cartoon)

Gotta agree, by far the Scooby Doo monster with the most personality in an episode ever. Funny enough, they turned him into one of the worst villains in the next show by recycling the same model and turning him white

Captain Cutler was reused in the Scooby Doo Movies? Wasn’t that Redbeard who was reused and turned white?

Phantom Shadows & The Puppet Master we’re definitely the most disturbing to me. Ironically growing up in the early 2000’s I didn’t ever get to watch Spook Space Cook as they never really aired it, I saw it later on, so I wasn’t as affected as most would’ve been watching it at a younger age. I also loved Elias Kingston and let’s not forget Snow Ghost almost sawed someone in HALF!

Those unnerved you? I found Puppet Master to be confusing... The Wax Phantom freaked me out, back in...3rd or 4th grade? It was that awful moaning...did NOT help my room was next to the AC unit, which made similar moaning sounds. And yeah, Snow Ghost was mad bawling trying to saw Velma in half, later trying to blow her and Scooby up...and only just dumped flour on Shaggy, as though that would be enough to get him to switch teams...then again, Shaggy was quite high back in the day.

The puppet master was always one of my favs.

What makes the early seasons work so well is the atmosphere. Sure, it’s a wacky kids show and not real, but something about the painted background and drab colors against the bright colors of the gang really just make the show work. They lost sight of that in later series and seasons but I do believe Mystery Inc brought it back as well as the 90s Scooby Doo movies.

Mystery Inc got the FEEL, yes, but I think it was ruined when they tried to stuff some overarching conspiracy into it. Scooby Doo never needed that and it kind of messed things up for the gang with the needless drama. In What's New, they did get something good with the Demon Farmer, I'd think.

I'm not going to lie, the spooky space kook made me literally poop myself when I was a young child with his laugh

My favorite is definitely the Puppet Master from "The Backstage Rage". I don't know what it was about him but he just scared the crap out of me as a kid.

The Phantom Shadow gave me nightmare's the most when I was a kid. And the fact that theirs two of them is twice as scary. Especially the five coffins scene gave the chills every time. And I know most people think that the Spooky Space Kook has the scariest laugh. But, to me. The Phantom Shadow was the most terrifying laugh because it felt more real.

I know the feeling, except it was the Wax Phantom and his moans and groans for me. Couldn't sleep at night... Didn't help the AC would spontaneously turn on at night and make that EXACT SAME NOISE!

When it comes to creepiest and overall best ones these are my. - Black Knight Ghost - 10,000 Volt Ghost - Creeper - Spooky Space Kook - Pterodactyl Ghost - Captain Cutler - Tar Monster - Phantom Shadows - Charlie the Robot (Also I really like the Swamp Zombie, Gator Ghoul and the Skeleton Men😁)

Top OG scooby villains for me ( most of them have scary crazy ass laughs ) 1) space kook- the king and of scooby villains . glowing skull 💀 and terrifying laugh . Plus the story layout with the music when it’s ufo landing 2) phantom shadows : scary ass green ghosts . Chain rattling , picture yourself in bed , hearing sounds and at the shadows he’s right there . 3) phantom - this guy is kinda tied with number 2 phantom shadows but greens ghost kinda beat him by 1 point . Episode was crazy with the magic tricks for illusions . 4) wax phantom - glowing , tall creepy af . Plus the episode from start to end was scary Me as a youngin . Imagine being inside a wax museum and a figure comes to life , glowing C creepy ass laugh. 5) headless Spector - simple , no head but evil scary laugh . Different from others . Episode layout started already creepy with a scene of a scary looking mansion then shows the ghost with the music building it’s suspense . 6) creeper . This episode and villain is pretty dope cause you can see the scary anger everytime the creeper says his name “creeper “ plus he tried to smack Velma 7) Puppet master. creepy, stalker controlling puppets. EP almost gave a puppet coming to life vibe, which would be more scarier if it happen, that would be more interesting. 8) momo tiki tia and witch doctor: funny kinda chracter , but kinda scary tho.

One of them would be the Wax Phantom for me...and mostly because of the dumb AC next to my room making the same moaning sound at night

I like Black Knight, Green Ghost/Phantom Shadow, Red Beard, Funland Robot, Zen Tuo, The Witch, Tar Monster, Space Kook, Headless Spector, and the Phantom.

I could see the Space Kook giving kids nightmares with the greatest of ease.

What's also unique about them is that they were willing to go further than most to achieve their goals, not just kidnapping and inflicting physical harm, but they took part in a desperate car chase and their boss Zen Tuo (who looks more haunting and intimidating at the start of the episode without the golden mask on) are one of very few who were willing to even attempt murder. The Scare Pair are also the only instance in which the criminals originally went looking for Mystery Inc. Scooby and the gang never even knew or heard about them or Zen Tuo until the henchmen cornered them. It was sheer dumb luck that they crossed paths, given that the mask was delivered to the wrong location and the person who got it just so happened to sell it to them.

If we're on the Scooby Doo Show here, I'd say it was the cat creature from "Make a Beeline from that Feline" for me A giant catman with a cape is just so freaky to me. And I was in high school when watching that.

That Space Kook Episode to me is a cut above the regular episodes. With everything falling apart and rusting... the haunted spaceship....AND not only is the Space Kook an "Alien" he's a FREAKIN' GHOST ALIEN!!! for goodness sake!!! But that laugh...I've been watching this episode for over 50 yrs. and that laugh still gives me chills.👽🛸💀

Imo the red beard episode evokes the most nostalgia. When I think of scooby doo I think of the egg beater, the sword slicing the salami, and bubbles. Edit: also the skeleton chest. Second edit: as I'm watching this I'm realizing how much every old scooby doo is nostalgic and how much I watched it as a kid and I was born in 2000.

Vampire bats and scaredy cats was the one episode that truly terrified the sh*t out of me as a young kid. My papa would come to the living room and watch it with me when it came on

I agree with you. I’m a little surprised that Captain Cutler wasn’t on the list, and The Creeper was probably the most violent ghost out of all of them!

My fav ones were the ghost who sacked the quarterback ( the rambling ghost ) , The mad doctor , The phantom racer , & the vampire who attacked Daphne on Vampire cats and scaredy cats . These used to scare me really bad when i was a kid .

My favorites from where are you are The Headless Specter and The Witchdoctor I would love to see a similar list with monsters from The Scooby Doo Show! It has some great choices (Tar Monster, 10,000 Volt Ghost, Dr. Coffin).

I remember seeing the spooky space ghost on Cartoon Network it was a rare episode at first.

I like the green ghosts, the tar monster, and the beast from bottomless lake.

My favorite ghost is Silas Long, the ghost werewolf. Partially because it has one of my favorite lines. When the gang visit his grave and Velma reads the tombstone “Here lies Silas Long. Half man, half wolf” and Shaggy says “And I’m half gone already”.

The hand drawn pictures in scooby doo 1969 series were awesome. Look at the headless spectre's entry.

The phantom and the Space Kook have the same laugh, and I think it works much better for the Space Kook. I always thought a laugh like that coming from a phantom sounded silly.

The way we regard automated critters, i.e. Five Nights at Freddy's, perhaps the caretaker's sister had a point in sabotaging the robot.

@@ciarangleeson2880 I think they called him one in the episode. But yeah 1969 is the year Sputnik was launched. That terrified the American Government because imagine what they aren't letting you see. And if notice the spacecraft looks a lot like Sputnik with it's spherical design. They probably thought that's what secret Russian Space ships looked like. So I imagine they were playing on that fear while also making fun of them to ease the tension. Like look at the kooky cosmonaut. Same thing happens in the Iron Giant which takes place in the year 1969. It shows Sputnik in orbit and the F.B.I. agent is worried what it's capable of and even thought the Russians could have made the Iron Giant. Which is accurate to the feeling of Americans at the time.

I remember when I was younger I was so scared of the ghost clowen lol.

Thank you for having the Phantom from Hassle in the Castle on here! I own the VHS tape for Scooby-Doo's Original Mysteries, which features the first five episodes of Season 1, and Hassle in the Castle is def. my favorite episode from the bunch. The Phantom is genuinely spooky with his laugh and shenanigans, plus, like you said, the fact that he's a magician makes it all his tricks seems so cool and well thought out. Also, he (and this episode) are listed on the page for "Adaptions of The Phantom of the Opera", due to the fact that Erik (POTO Phantom) was also a magician, he primarily haunts the catacombs, and there's a chandelier crash whilst Scooby is trying to catch him! This is my top ten best Scooby-Doo villains 10. The Freak Of Crystal Cove 9. The Ghost Of Captain Cutler 8. The Skeleton Men 7. The Tar Monster 6. The Luna Ghost 5. Spooky Space Kook 4. The Ghostly Gondolier 3. The Creeper 2. The Ghost Of Dr. Coffin 1. Phantom Shadows

Season 1 has the best animation by far imo.

For some reason I’m a big fan of the ghost of Mr. Hyde, I just think he’s cool.

My Favorite Scooby-Doo episode was Spooky Space Kook because Space Kook got a Rocket Ship

Are you gonna do Top Ten Scooby-Doo crossover episodes/movies? Btw, I saw on a Facebook post by one of the KISS members 2 years ago that a sequel to that movie was in development!

My favs are the Cat monsters ( Lina, Simone & Jacques) from zombie island

He had more personality than any other TV show villain they’ve ever faced for sure, but I think that makes him stand out

Capt. Cutler is definitely my #1. Drowned sailors/divers are creepy.

Lmao i found all the ghosts and knives and whatever not scary but CHARLIE THE FUN LAND ROBOT TERIFIED ME because he seemed unstople and just..scary
