Tool Time Tuesday: The xTool D1 Pro 20w Laser Engraver!

Ойын-сауық

xTool was kind enough to send me their D1 Pro 20w Laser Engraver with the Air Assist and RA2 Pro Rotary Attachment in exchange for an honest review, and here it is! I am very impressed with the overall build quality and function of the machine and the accessories. I’ll be using this mostly in conjunction with my wood turning, but it can do so much more! I’ll have another video focusing on money making projects utilizing the xTool D1 Pro 20w so keep an eye out for that.

Thanks Michael! There are definitely lots of things you can do with a laser engraver - maybe too many!🤣

Once again I am envious. Still wanting more than my 2-1/2 yo 10w engraver. Oh well 🤷‍♂ Good to always mention & show use laser eye safety stuff - enclosure & glasses 🙏 Thanks for sharing. Take care. -Mike

Depending on what you want to do, the 10w may actually be better. I didn’t do a lot of thick cutting tests cuz to be honest, if you want to do lots of cutting a CO2 laser is a much better option. From what I understand the lower wattage lasers are better for engraving. PS - I’m gonna get around to testing out your parts, and to mailing your package. 😃

Excellent info . I have been thinking of getting this model , but fearful of the level of complexity in operating the machine

All of the laser engravers definitely have a learning curve, mostly for the software, but once you get the hang of it, it goes pretty smoothly.

I returned recently my xtool 20w pro. It didn’t cut colour acrylic and tried so many times to get the engraving to work also. The smell of acrylic burning is so toxic it gave me a headache. I had to sometimes run a 5 pass to get it to cut the 3mm acrylic and you could really see and smell the burnt melted acrylic. Might be an ok machine but definitely not for cutting and engraving acrylic.

I did one project with opaque yellow acrylic (which was the xTool brand but I bought it from Amazon before I had the xTool) and it cut through in one pass using the settings recommended in the xTool creative software but it did smell awful - even with it in the enclosure and the exhaust fans on. Definitely not something I’m gonna do often. Or maybe ever again 🤣. Even cutting acrylic with the table saw etc smells bad - the nature of plastic I guess. I’m pleased with it cutting and engraving wood though, and since that’s my main thing it serves me well. Sorry it didn’t work out for you

Does dust from the shop interfere with the printer?

Hi Ronnie! This setup is on a different building, where I do my resin pouring. I think the laser in the enclosure would be ok, but the computer would probably it be happy
